Independence Day 2? - Part 1

So now that Fox has lost the Star Wars franchise, is this their response to the Force Awakens? Are there plans to have continued spinoffs of the ID4 concepts? Will they eventually have crossovers with the Alien, Prometheus and Predator movie franchises?

They still have the Avatar sequels.

Are they really going to have a group of rasta running loose in the Congo jungle? lol

They already did, according to the viral site. They've mopped up that hold out around 10 years after the first movie according to the site as well. My guess is that this gave those hold outs time to call in reinforcements who are showing up just as the new movie starts. Apparently they don't have anything like Star Wars/Trek's warp speed or hyperdrive so it takes time to cross the galaxy.

Like most people, I loved ID4 as a kid, but news of a sequel just left me with an overwhelming feeling of "eh". The trailer didn't leave me salivating, but I'm somewhat intrigued now. At the very least, it's great to see Goldblum starring in a big summer flick again. That guy was the king of 90s box office films for a while; nice to see him back.

My fan theory is that during this movie Earth ends up being destroyed and rendered uninhabitable as a last ditch effort to kill the aliens as well and it's the humans who do it. They do this because they already have outposts throughout the solar system at this time so they can survive without Earth but to the aliens Earth and all it's resources were the driving reason they came in the first place. I'm probably wrong but that's my guess. I'm gonna also guess that the humans attack the aliens from the moon which the viral site already confirms has planetary defenses and an outpost built into it.

There is zero chance they're not hoping to spin this into multiple films. Franchise had a different meaning in 1996 than it does today.

Looking at the viral site, I'm wondering why they wasted time rebuilding their cities and monuments back up like they never were destroyed in the first place(with the lone exception of Las Vegas which is now a memorial). Talk about wasted effort. You'd think they'd have devoted 100% of their time and effort to getting ready if the aliens showed up again. I dunno, but that little part seemed like the human beings just didn't fully learn their lesson in the first film. Playtime is over. You can't afford to stop and smell the roses anymore.

I guessed already that these hold-outs were probably the one responsible for sending the SOS to their dreadlocked bros wandering around the cosmos.

Shows where his judgement is at since he said yes to both terrible MIB sequels. But that was probably because there he was the main star while in ID4 he was one of 3 leads. He also turned down Django Unchained for similar reasons. At this point my opinion is that he can kiss my ass. I prefer to avoid his movies now so I'm glad he won't be here.
What did he do to you?

I mean I hate that he turned down Django but it's whatever. He has ego, but it's not like some talent who treats everyone like crap.

Well with the combination of his 'I'm only interested in roles where I'm the star/focus' and his many attempts to pawn his children off on us whether we want them or not...I am quite officially off the Will Smith fandom bandwagon.

i mean he really didn't try and push his kids that much. I think people blow that way out of proportion.

Jaden was in what like 4 films over like a 10 year period. Looking it up he only starred in two of them (Karate Kid and After Earth) but I didn't see either.
And then Willow did "Whip My Hair" and then didn't do anything really. I saw on Twitter she recently dropped an album. I think it was this past weekend

Really his kids weren't in your face that much.
I think Jaden's fake intellectualism/philosophy thing is corny, but it's easy to avoid it.

Well, to be fair, he's learned from that. Being in a movie like Suicide Squad shows it isn't about being THE star of a film any more.

"I was a guy who, when I was 15, my girlfriend cheated on me, and I decided that if I was number one, no woman would ever cheat on me. All I have to do is make sure that no one’s ever better than me, and I’ll have the love that my heart yearns for. And I never released that and moved into a mature way of looking at the world and my artistry and love until the failure of ‘After Earth,’ when I had to accept that it’s not a good source of creation."

"That Monday [after hearing After Earth flopped and his dad had cancer within 30 minutes of each other] started the new phase of my life, a new concept: Only love is going to fill that hole,” Smith said. “You can’t win enough, you can’t have enough money, you can’t succeed enough. There is not enough. The only thing that will ever satiate that existential thirst is love. And I just remember that day I made the shift from wanting to be a winner to wanting to have the most powerful, deep and beautiful relationships I could possibly have."

Just saying that if he wants to wipe his ass with the franchise that gave him his biggest hit to date then IMO we are far better off without his ungrateful ass.

Lol. He owes the sequel nothing and there's plenty of justifiable reasons why he couldn't or wouldn't be involved.

I dont get why it seems like youre taking Smith's actions so personally. I mean Smith came out and admitted that they way he used to look at things weren't the best and as I pointed out he really didn't push his kids in your face that much. And also, first you criticizing him for caring too much about him being a star and then criticize him for not doing a movie where he wouldve been the star.

But hey, do you.

And the sequel owes him nothing. But everyone's all 'where is he?' and I'm already sick of that.

Emmerich's reaction to Smith turning down ID4 2:

Just because he often stars in **** movies doesn't mean he's obligated to star in another one. I mean, let's take our nostalgia goggles off for a minute - Roland Emmerich doesn't make good movies. And the best ones he did were, well, 20 years ago. This might be fun in a "revisiting our youth" kind of way, but his track record tells us it almost certainly won't actually be good. I wouldn't blame anyone for turning it down, especially someone who doesn't need it like Smith.

Hahaha
That episode still gets me. The father one, the one when he got shot, and the finale. Instand water works.

Also I'm excited what Jesse Usher does. I like him on Survivor's Remorse so, hopefully, unless they write him like a complete d*** then I think he'll be good

I just hope they bring back the main theme from the original movie, still love it.

Looks okay. Hopefully, it's better than Emmerich's recent efforts which have all been gigantic bores.

Also, Maika Monroe is looking great :hrt::up:.

No it's not. It's self-entitled fandom overreaction taking offense to things that they really have no business taking offense to.

As far as I'm concerned, Smith isn't the problem here, whiners on the internet are.
