Independence Day 2? - Part 1

Me either. I wasn't really psyched for this (very unnecessary) sequel from the get go. This trailer hasn't changed that for me at all. I might go see it if I have enough Scene Points to get a free movie. Or maybe I'll buy a ticket to see one movie and then right after sneak into a different theatre to watch ID2. But I'm not devoting any of my hard earned dollars towards their bottom line.

:whatever:

See I don't get that attitude. This whole, "oh I'll buy a ticket for another movie and sneak in because I won't give them the satisfaction of having my money" approach I've always find to be quite pretentious.

If you're so non-interested in the sequel, just don't see it.

Right on.

I like the mysterious tone of the trailer.Cant wait to see what the 'new" aliens will look like

The movie looked ok. I'm not really hyped for it yet though. Perhaps the next trailer will generate more interest for me.

I wonder if the Alien tech is Ipad compatible? ;)
The lesser Hemsworth is what we call him.
I think Liam is the least talented of the three. Even the lesser known oldest brother Luke is a better actor than him.

Okay trailer, but agree it seems generic compared to the original.

Spot on, never got it myself.

So Will's character didn't get to become President? That's very disrespectful. He should be in this movie.

He was asked and he didn't want to be in it. They had two different versions of the script. One with him and one without.

Shows where his judgement is at since he said yes to both terrible MIB sequels. But that was probably because there he was the main star while in ID4 he was one of 3 leads. He also turned down Django Unchained for similar reasons. At this point my opinion is that he can kiss my ass. I prefer to avoid his movies now so I'm glad he won't be here.

He's part of an ensemble on Suicide Squad and there's rumours he'll be in the next Batman solo.

^I think there he's hoping the DCCU will be the next MCU and he's hitching himself a ride on that early. That's my best guess at any rate. I mean at this point if just about any actor had the opportunity(knowing what they know now) to go back 6 or 7 years and get in on the ground floor of the MCU, do you really think they wouldn't take that opportunity? That's like being apart of Star Wars circa 1980 or LOTR circa 2002. Just about any actor would sell their mother to get in on the ground floor of a franchise like that. All Smith is doing is trying to be ahead of the curve. ID:R while it'll likely be huge doesn't come with those kind of benefits. The DCCU(if they don't F it up) has every possibility to become Star Wars/LOTR/MCU level big...a mega-franchise.

And I doubt Spiner will be returning what with him being KILLED in the first film but I guess he could show up on some old videos talking about alien technology or something...I really don't care if he returns or not.

I give the trailer a solid 9/10.

From what I understand, they're pretending his character didn't die in the first one and is alive and well for the sequel.

So I'm guessing Adam Baldwin's Major Mitchell just sucked at taking someone's pulse then?

Well Pullman doesn't look inserted into that picture at all. :o

The trailer was okay but didn't generate as much excitement as I had hoped. It would've been nice to see the destruction of other major cities again, as that was one of the highlights of the first film. It's kind of like having London Has Fallen as the sequel to Olympus Has Fallen, but London only falling in a more understated way where you don't see famous monuments being devastated like those in Washington.

And it is a shame about Will Smith not coming back, even though we've known for a long time. He's an idiot to have done After Earth, which had no value. This film would've had a much bigger box office return for him.

The most intriguing aspect to this movie is how Earth in the ID4 universe has changed in the last 20 years due to reverse engineering all the alien's technology. We never see that idea in these kinds of movies so I'm really curious about that. Granted, 20 years ain't a lot of time to move the world collectively forward in technological terms by centuries. I wonder if the concept of countries even means much anymore in the world of ID4.

I'm worried for this and films like Finding Dory and The Incredibles 2. The track record after waiting many, many years between sequels for successful first films isn't that great ala 300, Sin City, etc....

I'd say there aren't enough examples to make any definitive statements like that. Mad Max Fury Road also was a sequel that waited a long, long time and apparently that worked(not for me, I didn't like it) for most people. Creed also is a sequel that took a long time(even if it's more like a spin off) which people love(I haven't seen that one myself). But Rocky 6 and Rambo 4 both waited forever and were well received. Lots of examples of them working so I don't think any definitive statement about working or not can be applied. It's a craps-shoot, just like anytime a movie comes out.

Hell Jurassic World falls into that category and it's the biggest movie of the year and #3 of all time.

So now that Fox has lost the Star Wars franchise, is this their response to the Force Awakens? Are there plans to have continued spinoffs of the ID4 concepts? Will they eventually have crossovers with the Alien, Prometheus and Predator movie franchises?

Totally forgot they were making this film so was quite surprised and pleased by the teaser this morning. Had a look at the viral site which is up too, quite interesting to see how they've fleshed out the backstory a bit with snippets of what's happened in the intervening years.
