Avengers: Infinity War Debuts in China With $76 Million

After grossing $9.3 million in Thursday night previews, the Marvel Studios sequel raked in another $66 million on its first full day of release in the world’s second-largest film market. Variety estimates that Infinity War accounted for 96 percent of cinema revenues in China on Friday.

Infinity War had already set a new record for the largest advance ticket sales than any other film in Chinese history. Going to the weekend, it will attempt to top Avengers: Age of Ultron‘s $156 million opening weekend record in 2015 — the highest debut in that country for any Marvel film — and Monster Hunt 2. Released in Februar, Monster Hunt 2 holds the all-time record for an opening weekend in China with $187 million.

Infinity War has beaten Black Panther on every day of its release. On Black Panther's third Friday it earned $16,257,536, so I will set that as the benchmark for Infinity War to beat.

12 out of 14 days so far, not every day. Would be very nice if it can match Black Panther's 3rd Friday.

I predict a finish at 2.179 Billion... about 8 million shy of Titanic... sorry guys.

At that point Disney would likely just pay each of their 200,000 employees to go out and buy 5 tickets each(about $45) and then Titanic would fall. The $8M cost would be peanuts next to the value of the bragging rights. Besides, Titanic had a release or two so all's fair. :sly:

I just realized that if AIW follows AoU's legs exactly then AIW will end up the highest grossing movie in SK history by about $1.5M beating the current champ...some SK movie I never heard of. Right now Avatar's the highest grossing foreign film in SK but there's plenty of SK-made movies that topped it. AIW will top Avatar for sure it looks like.

I hope it can at least do $64M this weekend thus putting it at an even $550M DOM current total. Round numbers just make calculations easier.

And even better 550M dom after the weekend would make 700M dom an even more attainable target.

I take offence to that as a proud Nolanite. I think you are confusing Nolanites and Snyderites. :o

Nolanites like Mill3r and I are overjoyed by the success of Infinity War and the MCU especially now that they seems to have the combo of depth, fun, and faithfulness to the characters that made the Nolan films so awesome. It only reaffirms how wrong the DCEU and Snyder got it. ::oldrazz:

However, I can understand the wondering about the success of this film. Based on the second weekend, I was initially a little concerned about this film's legs. In absolute terms, movies like Batman v Superman and The Last Jedi made big money, but neither was the success they ought to have been. The Last Jedi's actual reception seems not to have been well predicted by its CinemScore. Given the brave creative choices made with Infinity War and some of the reactions by kids I have seen, there was some reason to be concerned. Thankfully that has not been borne out.

A lot of nolanites became Snyderbots.

Well this movie isn't doing too well now. It's only jumped up two places to number 13 on the all time highest list since the weekend. It should've been in the top 10 by now since it made huge jumps before. It's ahead of Iron Man 3 and the Fate of the Furious, but behind Beauty and the Beast and Frozen.

This post gives me LIFE.

And a lot (like myself) didn't. There are overlapping fandoms everywhere. Generalizing is rarely a good idea on that front.

I for one remain the Nolanite I've been since pre-Batman Begins, but barring a few exceptions, I've greatly enjoyed the MCU from Iron Man onward as well. Some of us believe there's no one "right" way to approach CBM's. There are simply some ways that work and some that don't.

Yep, I fall in that category as overall I'm a fan of all 3 Nolan's Batman films and I'm even a fan of Man of Steel.

There are things I dislike about them of course (just like every movie), but I still enjoy them.

I’ve been a Nolan fan since Momento, but I love the MCU as well.

I'm a massive Nolan fan and MCU fan. My two favorite Superhero series are The Dark Knight Trilogy and The Marvel Cinematic Universe. It's all about how you execute your film for me, whether you're light or dark.

Barman is the only "dc" character that can fall under the marvel umbrella it's most likely why you like barman btw court of the owls is awesome

Batman is my least-favorite of the major DC heroes, yet TDK is my favorite CBM of all-time. It has nothing to do with Batman being "Marvel-esque" and everything to do with being a great, classic movie. Attachment to the comics characters has little bearing on being able to appreciate a well-made CBM.

Though with me my favorite superhero is Batman so putting that character together with one of the best filmmakers around was just a double dose of awesome for me.

Looking forward to that awesome China Friday number along with U.S. and overseas getting incorporated into the overall total today.

Apparently an 80m USD Saturday according to BOT, would be the biggest single day for any Hollywood movie in a foreign market.

Exactly! And the train just isn't slowing down. Should be over $1.6B by the end of the weekend on the way to Marvel's 1st haul of over $2B. Amazing times we live in. Avengers 4 coming next year and then the slate for Marvel's future (and the longer term future possibly enhanced further by access to X-Men and F4).

Why dark knight is not that great ? Not trying to argue would like your thoughts on why that's all :)

That is true but you also have to consider how many characters lend themselves to the type of movie TDK was. Maybe Captain America, Daredevil or Punisher from Marvel. I don't think there is any other hero in DC who would have lent himself to that story apart from Batman, but I am not a comics guy, so I won't know. I would be interested to hear folks here talk about it though. Which other characters work for the style of movie that TDK was.

This. Couldn't of cared less about the likes of iron man, thor etc ten years ago.

Unfortunately WB have done the complete opposite.
