Infinity

You really don't have to buy Avengers to enjoy the story, it will be just like the dynamic between New Avengers and Avengers right now. If you can put up with only reading New Avengers and not Avengers then you should be able to do the same with this event.

Also lol at you going through this cycle again. You're going to end up buying the event when time comes.

Well, after reading your post, I am definitely going to sit this one out. A great event should be laid out like this, IMO...

The main mini-series has a beginning, middle, and end. If you buy the mini, you get the whole story. For example, let's say Thanos invades Earth with this army and wages war on the heroes. His entire story should be in the mini. Any big events involving the heroes should be in the mini. If a Spider-Man book is crossing over with it, have that book reflect how the invasion affects Spider-Man's world. Show him rescuing Mary Jane from wreckage caused by the invasion. Use the ongoing series that tie in to tell the personal stories, leaving the narrative of the event to happen in the mini.

I know, and that annoys the tar out of me.

And I'm reading New Avengers right now but would likely drop it the moment it needs Avengers to make sense. The way Hickman talks, though, it sounds to me like you'll need all three to understand it all. My only saving grace right now is that New Avengers and Infinity focus on earth while Avengers focuses on space. If that remains true throughout then I can just continue with New and pick up Infinity, which isn't so bad. It's the extra 6 $4 comics that I don't want to buy that's annoying. Plus, I don't really know if I want to pick up Thanos Rising. If it's just an origin story then I have no interest, but if it offers new modern plot as a lead-in then that'd be great.

I'm going to give myself an ulcer or a hemorroid or something. I need more money.

A new team looks to be forming during Marvel's upcoming Infinity event, with the first teaser (likely of several) released Monday.

Here's the official description: "From the battlefields of Infinity comes a new team to protect Earth! With the Avengers light-years away in space, contending with the Builders and Thanos’ marauders ransacking the Earth, who will stand in defense of mankind?"

If you scan the teaser image with the Marvel AR app, a video starts playing with Marvel senior vice president of publishing and Infinity editor Tom Brevoort giving more details about the project.

"Welcome to our first Mighty teaser, the first teaser about this new project coming up, that we'll be telling you about all week," Brevoort says in a recorded message. "During his tenure with the New Avengers, Luke Cage became the moral center of the team. While he's now retired from being an active Avenger because of the need to raise his daughter in a safer environment, the call to arms, and the catastrophe that is Infinity forces him to get back up off the bench and pull together a bunch of other characters to be the Avengers when no one else can. Luke's the one character with the gravitas and the wherewithal to make this happen."

The teaser displays six slots for the team, with one icon revealed so far. Given that it's a yellow fist, and Luke Cage has been revealed to be involved, Iron Fist — mostly dormant since Avengers vs. X-Men — is an easy guess, barring some major misdirection.

BOOYAH!!! Iron Fist baby. I'm now buying Infinity!

I wonder if this is leading toward the revamped Heroes for Hire idea that Bendis had?

Either way, I'm in. Luke's confirmed back and Iron Fist is likely the symbol we're shown. I've been missing them both something fierce.

Is this going to be a new Mighty Avengers title or something else? I'm not sure I can handle another Avengers title.

That's what I'm thinking as well. Since it says "Mighty" though they might be revamping it as another Mighty Avengers while being Heroes For Hire in essence.

I don't care what they call it. If it has Luke, Danny, and Jessica... I'm there.

The dynamic between Luke and Jessica is great. Though to be honest, it would make more sense for Luke to go do this and for Jessica to hide away with the baby.

And the next one's been revealed: Superior Spider-Man.

I'm very disappointed in that because I've not followed anything with SpOck. When I saw the spider symbol I was hoping it was Scarlet Spider. Oh well.

Not following Superior Spider-Man?

Shame on you, JewishHobbit, shame on you.

Doctor Octopus is my least favorite villain in the Marvel Universe. There is zero appeal for me there. Plus, I just can't get into a Spider-Man book without the responsibilities of Peter being married. That was the Peter I grew from childhood to manhood with, anything else is just another superhero book.

Though I do think it's cool that Slott's brought Cardiac and Spider-Man 2099 into it. The Cardiac issues nearly got me to buy it. I've been missing Spidey recently though, but whenever I skim the issues, the moment I see Spidey talking or acting Ockish, I lose all interest. When I see him guest star in something I read, I groan (Daredevil for example). So maybe once this story ends, I'll give Spider-Man a 3rd or 4th shot since OMD to pull me back in. Sadly, without being married to MJ and with the double shipping schedule at $4... I doubt it'll stick... if I even start at all.

New Teasers

First off, I didn't realize that the fist was supposed to represent Luke Cage.

So we OFFICIALLY have Luke Cage, Superior Spider-Man, She-Hulk, and the Blue Marvel.

I went from really excited about this to sorta bleh. I like Cage, but with Iron Fist not represented yet I don't care as much. I don't like Doc Ock so Spidey doesn't interest me in the slightest. I've never cared about She-Hulk. The Blue Marvel's mini got a lot of praise but I never read it, so there's nothing there for me either.

Man... if Iron Fist or Richard Rider (or some X-Man that I REALLY like) isn't one of those last two spots, I'll be very disappointed.

Final two members, White Tiger and the new Power Man that premiered in Shadowland.

The only thing drawing me to this is Luke and Power Man. Everything else is a let down. If it's a mini I'll probably skip it, but I'd skim it first for Luke alone.

I wish they'd have strayed from the random pairing here (as they've been doing a lot of lately) and stayed with something that makes sense. Like if you're going to focus on Luke, pull in Danny. Then pull unused characters from their two crayon boxes. From Luke you can pick Jessica, Squirrel Girl, and/or Colleen Wing. From Iron Fist you can pull Power Man, Fat Cobra, Prince of Orphans, or any of the other Immortal Weapons. Pick six people from these two groups and you have a fine team with personal connections. I'd buy the heck out of that.

I think I may check it out...but I do think it's missing like one other "cool" member...

I'm generally not interested in either the new White Tiger (I like the old ones) or Power Man (just seems really cheesy)..Blue Marvel may interest me, as will Luke Cage She Hulk...Spidey doesnt interest me as he's over exposed..but it may help sell the thing.

Dude you're crazy. It's so campy when he does that it's hysterical. Even more so are the reactions from other people to the way he speaks.

So during Infinity we have Inhumans and this Mighty team fighting against Thanos...

There was mention of the X-Men's place belonging in the Infinity mini, but to what extent we don't know. I don't expect them to really be a factor.

I'm interested in that due to Wolverine, Evan, and Kid Omega being a part of it. I might give it a shot. We'll see.

I've always wanted to see the X-Students intermingle with the other teens of the Marvel Universe and none have save X-23.

The scope of Infinity keeps growing. I won't post the article but it has just been announced that Secret Avengers (with a guest writer) will have tie-in issues and the number of Thunderbolts tie-in issues has increased from 2 to 5. So, it looks like nearly every Avengers-associate title besides Uncanny, Arena, Young, and AI are going to be involved.

I certainly hope the tie-ins are more of a stand alone nature than story filler. Re-reading Civil War and its tie-ins was a borderline nightmare in terms of structure and continuity because of how the story jumps between titles.

A.K.A. - Thunderbolts and Secret Avengers need the sales boost.

And I'm glad that Uncanny and Young aren't tieing in yet because I'm not even convinced I'm buying this event. I probably will, but I like to keep my options open.

I agree although I am far more optimistic about Infinity's quality than I have been for past events. Far too often, event tie-in issues are a cheap money grab that only serve to disrupt the flow of storylines happening in other titles. There have been very few tie-in issues that seem to actually added to the main event. That said, Hickman's promises that Infinity will be segmented into separate mini-events in tie-in titles might remedy this.

Still, I'd prefer that individual titles are largely left alone.
