I know some don't appreciate it but I love how New Avengers and Avengers tie directly into the Infinity itself and are not simple retellings of the events in the main series or background. Too often event tie-ins seem to be cheap money grabs designed to capitalize on the story being told in the mini-series and add next to nothing to the event (I'm looking at you Secret Invasion, AVX, and Siege). For once, the (main) tie-ins are absolutely essential to the story and I applaud that.

There's two views. One is the person who only reads the event. This person is angry that the whole event is not be told within the mini-series. The second person (who has most likely already been reading the series in which the tie-ins occur) is glad that the issues are not being wasted on pointless backstory or filler issues meant to delay the title until the event's conclusion. You can't please everyone.

Would it have been more fair if Marvel had introduced this as a 17 part story instead of six? Yeah, probably. However, if the story can really sustain that many chapters, and it appears it can, I'm not going to criticize getting more of a good thing.

I don't want to fight Hickman's battles but some of the event criticisms seem a little unfair, especially considering the quality of past events. Even if Infinity ends up being just "okay", it's still a HUGE step up.

I'm loving this event, but watching Falcon fly around in splash pages is freakin hilarious. What exactly is he doing and why did they bring him? We got Thor, Gladiator, Hyperion, Captain Marvel, all flying around being badass and then there's Sam making bird noises at best.

And I'm starting to get bored with this event. I figure I'll give it and the two Avenger books through Infinity 3. If my opinion's not changed I might drop it all after that. I'm only REALLY interested in Thanos, Gladiator, and the Wakanda/Atlantis war (which I don't know how much they'll actually touch during this event), but I don't know if any of these are worth the money I'm spending for these three titles. And once the event is over all I'll care about is the Wakanda/Atlantis war. The incursion plot doesn't interest me at all.

I am loving all the art though. I wish Battle of the Atom had this many great artists. I'll trade any of one of these artists for Bachelo.

Yeah, that bugs me too. I feel like a large portion of the story is already ruined, so why pay to read it? That enjoyable factor is already gone. I figure it'll go that route, the Inhuman population will team up with the heroes to stop Thanos' army with an assist by the knick-of-time return of the Avengers, and the final battle will be Blackbolt taking on Thanos. I could be wrong obviously, but that's what I'm expecting.

As for how the space aspect of the story plays out... I have no interest in that side of the story, so I don't care.

I'm quite curious about this son of Thanos' though. Didn't see that coming. I dig the space stuff, but Hickman's writing is so...heavy. He and Remender need to lighten up. I truly believe those 2 would write some awesome novels though.

Actually, it looks like that happens in issue 3. So it doesn't end with that, it happens halfway through the event.

And to alter my earlier prediction... I forgot to mention that I expect something to happen to pull Thanos' forces together with the heroes and Inhumanized population to fight the builders.

It couldn't be helped. It was going to be spoiled by solicits no matter what. At least they're not treating it like it was supposed to be some big twist...which it isn't, so I'm not sure what there is to be upset about. We have actual twists, like Thanos's son.

So far I am enjoying the Infinity event. Now I did read mention above that the tie-ins are absolutely essential to the storyline....but I'm not reading too many Avengers titles so I will most likely not be getting those. Am I really missing out? The massive Marvel U involvement in this story has been fantastic in terms of execution, getting the Imperial Guard/Shiar on deck as well as the Inhumans. The threat seems real, Thanos is bringing this bad guy swagger to the table by literally rolling with death, and I am actually excited for this event. The last time I was giddy about an event would have been Dark Reign with the Dark Avengers.

On a side note I am excited that Marvel is taking us back to Cosmos with these titles on the shelves! Guardians of the Galaxy, The Hunger, Thanos, and now Infinity. I also have purchased the trade of the original Infinity event and am excited to read that as well.

You're basically only reading 1/3rd of the story if you're only reading Infinity and not Hickman's other two books. Events happen in sequential order from Infinity 1 -> Avengers 18/New Avengers 9 -> Infinity 2 -> etc.

Avengers Assemble also helps add more perspective although it isn't necessary like Avengers and New Avengers.

I added New Avengers 8 in there because, while the cover says it is a prequel issue, it actually takes place between Infinity 1 and NA 9 and shows some important things.

Anyone else get the first issue of The Hunt mini? I liked it enough, and it's always nice to see the young heroes getting the spotlight, even though some of the new names are rather ridiculous (Pom-Pom? Really?), but the big continuity glitch that stuck out to me is that one of the teachers is Sanjar Javeed. You're probably thinking who? But the big problems with him being there are 1. he's dead and 2. he was an evil mutant who was recruited by Apocalypse to be his Final Horseman of Death back in Uncanny X-Force before he was killed.

^^^Same here. I did end up getting the mini but have yet to read it. How annoying is it, though, that there's an Avengers Academy with no one really attending?

I will check these issues out then per your recommendation. I do want to get the most out of this event without buying into needless tie-ins - the catch is I'm so huge on continuity and knowing what is going on with each character to the best of my ability. I hope this event continues on the awesome path it started on. AvX started strong but ended up being a huge disappointment for me as a reader. I'm just hoping Infinity doesn't do the same. Yeah, Avengers and New Avengers are definitely not needless...they're actually very close to being necessary, if not outright essential.

He's apparently one of the teachers in the new Pan Asian school that was introduced in the book. But like I said, he was evil and dead last I checked.

It's funny because I was reading a trade where Angel was first turned into Death, the fourth horseman, and it made me think of the X-men 90's cartoon where the horsemen squared off against the X-men. Such a cool cast and a neat group. The originals will always be awesome however i did like that group pictured above, the storyline they were involved in was simply mean and they were a brutal bunch.

It's funny, I really would like to like the new four appointed horsemen since Sentry and Daken (former Dark Avengers) are amongst the ranks however it is way too soon and the team chemistry simply doesn't add up compared to the other sets of horsemen - just my opinion. Maybe the storyline will make these characters really shine though, in which case I'm always open to liking new concepts and teams. We'll see .
