Well, Karem was my orginally scripted guest, but he was unable to be interviewed, due to scheduling conflicts. So, I had to grab some nut off the street and interview him.........
Inside The Poster's Studio
Season II: The Killing Jerk
Welcome! Once again to Inside the Poster's Studio.
Please join me in welcoming back a ITPS regular and
the RPG board's resident Mod, Master Bruce. Welcome,
Bruce.
Pleasure to be here, whipping boy.
Shove it, stinky. Now, let's get down to it and talk
about your recent promotion. You became the RPG mod.
Tell us some of the factors that led to that and how
many ***** you had to suck.
It wasn't so much me, as it was DOG LIPS. He and I
have been buddies for a long time, dating back before
I even became interested in the games. And when he was
promoted to mod, and eventually admin, we stopped
talking. But recently, we became bored, and started
conversing again on general subjects about the Hype.
At the time, twylight and I had noticed that the
section had needed it's own specific moderator to help
out, so I mentioned that to DL. A couple days later,
he IMed me, preparing me for some huge surprise. And
thus, red tinted MB.
And you quickly took of from there. Being named mod of
the Watchman and TDK boards. Seriously, who are you
****ing?
The Batman thing was completely by accident. I don't
know how that happened, to be honest. But Watchmen was
my request, out of my love for the graphic novel.
Fair enough. As the mod of the RPG forums, do you see
yourself as one of the leaders of the whole RPG
sub-culture I like to call The Hype Basement?
No. Absolutely not. I've never liked to think of
myself as above or below anyone in these games.
There's some serious talent here that I can't even
compete with, and in the end, I'm just a player with a
few special priveleges. Those priveleges being akin to
becoming this section's janitor, in a way... but
nothing more. I'm a player first, a mod second.
So, you're the Janitor....like Scrubs? Dr. Jani Tor?
Damn straight. Oh, and I'd like to add I'm not above
anyone... except GL. That guy sucks.
I know he sucks. But what does he suck? Now that is a
diffrent story for a diffrent time. Maybe ITPS After
Hours...
I've heard the stories...Be afraid, Hypesters. Be VERY
afraid.
Moving on to some of my base questions. What's the one
arc you enjoyed participating in the most?
I'd have to say that, without question, would have to
be the Daredevil Vs. Bullseye arc in the Marvel RPG,
Season IV. And the reason is because of how much
planning went into it, between Keyser Soze and myself.
The guy's a genius, and a hell of a player, and he
really made the arc into something I look back to,
even on this day, with alot of pride.
Which character have you enjoyed playing the most? Ole
batsy aside.
Hmm. Batman aside. That's a toughy. I really enjoy
playing Spider-Man, I have to say, because I feel like
I lose myself the most in that role. But if there's
one character I've enjoyed phenominally, thus far,
it's been playing The Joker in the Ultimate DC RPG. I
don't post much as him, but when I do, it's like
Christmas for me to get into that mentality.
He's literally a guy with no fear. No topic is off
limits to his comedy, and that's really engaging for a
writer.
Yep. And he's a man of his word.
Starting tonight, RPGers will die...
Switching gears for a moment, there's been some talk
about changing the old application process. What are
your thoughts on the apps as well as reserves?
Personally, and I've talked this over with trusty, so
he knows... but I think the system is fine as is.
We're always constantly changing little things here
and there to help the benefit of the game, but after
awhile, it becomes repetitive. The games were much
different... and I hate to admit, but alot less
hostile when I joined. And I miss those days,
sometimes, because of little fights over the stupidest
stuff. It's just a game, people. Have fun first,
bicker last. As far as reserves, I'm sort of on the
fence. In some cases, I believe them to be helpful
and, even at times, nessecary. But Harlekin brought up
alot of good arguements against them in his post.
You're referring to his Manifesto. What did you think
about that? Was it something that needed to be done?
For some of us to take a step back and look at it all.
Do I think it's essential to RPGers new and old?
Absolutely. Harl's been in the games for quite some
time, and he knows what he's talking about. I'm not
gonna lie and say I agree with every little point,
every little word, and every little sentence of them,
but the majority of it is not only great help to the
forums, but cold hard fact in terms to how some
players have acted, myself included.
There seems to be a bad habit of "MB Bashing" in the
threads by RPers new and old. What is it about you
that inspires these comments?
Well, I certainly don't help them, because I usually
play along. But as for where they originated from,
that's a mystery even to me. Perhaps we'll never know.
But they generally don't affect me, unless I'm having
a bad day. And I've had those alot, which is probably
the only times I've complained about them and really
meant it.
Let's move back to my base questions. You play a lot of
high profile characters, but what is the one character
you would want to play? No holds barred, doesn't
matter if they can be played in an RPG or not
(excluding Batman)
Damn you! Well, I've played alot of the characters
I've wanted to play, truthfully. Aside from mainstream
DC's Batman, there really isn't one I can think of off
the top of my head. But I think that if I were ever
offered the role, I'd play a character like Bender
from 'Futurama' in a cartoon oriented RPG. Comedy is
one of my great loves, and I don't get to express it
as much with my characters. In terms of comic
characters, I really think I'd love to play Darkseid,
but that's about it. Anyone else I could take or
leave.
Bender and Darkseid? Hell of a team....
Chain smoking robots from Apokolips? Hate to steal
your catchphrase, but... well, you know... the
something would be near...
Nigh. Something would be nigh. Okay, you've also had a
hand in posting a bunch of RPG apps (with me goading
you on in most cases) What's one RPG you would like to
see made and survive?
From a purely selfish standpoint, I'm hoping people
will like my Gotham City RPG. But from a purely
unselfish standpoint, I have to say I wouldn't mind
seeing something new created in the One Universe
concept of Marvel and DC. There's so many possibilites
to explore there, and so many continuities to go off
of... people could get really creative with one of
those.
Okay, let's bring this bad boy home. What lies ahead
for you, MB? What are we to see out of Bastard Bruce?
Well, Ultimate Spidey's about to get into some major
trouble. I'm really excited about that arc, if I ever
get around to posting for it. Then there's some
chaotic madness being planned for a Flash/Savitar
battle in the DC RPG that JB and I are beginning to
cook up. And for my prime character, Batman in UDC,
I'm going to be putting my own personal spin on alot
of famous storylines in the upcoming seasons,
including Long Halloween, Prodigal, Knightfall, and
others.
Ult. Jim will be there.
He better. Friggin' gloryhogger and his
Untouchables...
Not my fault I'm blowing you out the water. That's all I have in the way of questions. Any parting words to say to our readers?
Yeah. If somebody told you I was your average,
ordinary guy, not a care in the world... somebody
lied.
Pssh, **** Spidey and **** Tobey "I dance like a
moron" Maguire
