Iron Fist Iron fist Costume thread

Agreed. Danny may have billions but this show doesn't. Game of Death inspired jumpsuits costs about $25 on Bay. ;)

I don't see how it would be that expensive to make a one piece spandex suit like that. Other tv shows have managed similar suits.

Even if they couldn't go with those materials then they could either go the Daredevil black costume route or jump suit, like you say, but in style of the Iron Fist costume instead of the Game of Death homage.

Something still looks odd to me about the masks they are wearing. Idk if the material seems a bit thick, or if I want the black around the eyes to be bigger. I don't think it matters anyway because I think the "suit" he's gonna be given is the hoodie with the yellow covering his lower face.

Really disappointed, Marvel TV needs to move away from Loeb and Perlmutter, and get in good graces to get more Disney money to adopt Superhero property properly. This cheap "no actual costumes" crap is 10 years behind the times.

These shows hate costumes. Always have always will. The mask scene in K'un L'un is the closest we will ever get.

Have you guys watched season 2 all the way through? Is that fight the only time we get the mask???

Yes, as I told you all after Comic-Con ;)
All I needed to know. I’m not going to make this a priority at all, I’ll perhaps watch it later.

I don't get that, how f***ing hard is it?

So i think its safe to say at this point they have no intention of Danny wearing a costume ever right? In fact, i think that flashback sequence was their way of saying to us "see, nerds? See how ridiculous this looks?"

Smh.

So I saw a side view of the mask in a Netflix promo or thumbnail, don't remember. Why did they choose to make the mask slant upward from the nose. This makes the mask look stupid. Are they doing this on purpose to make people not want it? Why not go straight across to the back of his head like in the friggin comics?!

The mask is the closest we will ever get to a sort of costume.

Given the way Season 2 ends, how long before someone [yet to be jaded by the whole Marvel Netflix costume thing] inevitably says ''I think we'll see Danny return in full costume in Season 3!''?

Staggering to think that we have had numerous shows and so far, only Daredevil has had a full, proper costume. Sure, Frank has had one but even then his is one of the most basic to create and he didn't even wear that for long.

Danny's never getting the costume. They never had any intention of putting him in one probably because they think it cant be realized in live action without looking silly.

Given the way s2 ended, I think we just need to accept it. Its not happening.

I think what Netflix likes to do is offer glimmers of hope. They certainly did a ton of that this season. They also hinted at "Typhoid" Mary as something they could do next season.

It was an improvement over Elektra but not a great Typhoid Mary. I almost wish she was in Daredevil here. Her role in Iron Fist served almost no purpose. A waste of a great character.

How they used Mary is the only thing I really disliked this season.

I've always like how the Netflix shows handle costumes because I preference the story unfolds naturally and be more focused on character rather than just inserting pro-wrestling-esque caricatures. But when and how they use costumes should be a natural part of the narrative. Daredevil has the perfect use being a classic masked vigilante story, Jessica Jones is a counter to the classic superhero idea, Luke Cage is the superhero down the block, and Punisher was about uncovering a conspiracy(as oppose to being the boogyman to the mob, which I think season 2 will cover). Even Iron Fist season one made sense why there was no costume.

But the lack of the costume in Season 2 did not make sense. Hell he barely wears the proto-costume, every time he talks to a criminal organization without the mask it annoyed the crap out of me. I was hoping the end of season would see him suit up, his final fight with Davos inspiring him to take up the classic mask. Granted they left things in a far more interesting place than that but it's irritating to see the perfect tee up for organically introducing the costume just left hanging.

I have hope that hints for season 3 is to explore the mythology of the Iron Fist would lead to the costume, but money at this point is there will be no costume for this show.

sigh... at least he was wearing green.

To me, the show she was in wasn't the issue. The issue was she wasn't Typhoid Mary. I buy the argument that she was "Walker" from the Typhoid mini by Ann Nocenti and John Van Fleet. The biggest issues I have with her appearing in a Daredevil season is Season 3 seems already packed and it's likely that we'd get one or two things: Either this Mary Walker who isn't much like Typhoid Mary or we'd get an accurate Typhoid Mary that comes off as too similar to Elektra.

I bet a million bucks that the sole reason he's not wearing it is because the costume people behind the scenes just couldnt find a way to make it work without it looking silly. And thats frustrating because in this day and age I thought we were past the point of not being able to faithfully render a costume in live action without it looking credible. Batman's finally got his black and grey suit, Spiderman's got eyes that can emote, even the Xmen are finally getting blue and yellow suits in the upcoming movie. You mean to tell me they cant find a creative green/yellow ninja like outfit for Danny to sport that at least pays homage to the costume look?

I don't think that's the case, if having the costume was a priority they would make it work. Daredevil looks awesome, particularly the mask in season 2, the "mask vigilante" is central to the concept of the series, not so much for Iron Fist. I think the lack of a mask boils down to two things, a reluctance to hide the actor's face and the direction they've chosen for the story.

If you look at how the story actually plays out: He wears his proto costume in two scenes and losses the Iron Fist half way through the season and doesn't get it back, there's no moment that calls for him to "suit up". Everyone he fights already knows who he is. I wished the final scenes show both Colleen and Danny wearing masks even if they get upgraded in season 3, while it doesn't quite mask sense for Danny but for Colleen going up against criminals it easily can, even if the triads already knows.

It's just a creative decision, one that I and most of us disagree with.

The weird part is they are well aware of the fanboy backlash after season 1 and it’s not like the fanboys aren’t a very large portion of the viewing public in this shows particular case since it didn’t necessarily do well in viewership to begin with and story/writing wise this can’t even be overlooked since that’s not even that great either.

Thats the one thing you gotta give the CW shows credit for. They dont BS with the costumes. You could argue about the quality on some of the suits the heroes wear but they go all in. When Batwoman makes her debut this fall, you could bet she's gonna be sportin a costume like the comics.

And as a result those superheroes look absolutely ridiculous. You could never get away with that level of cheese in the Marvel Netflix shows, the scene we got from K'un-Lun was bad enough.

Eh I dunno, I think some of the costuming on the CW heroes looks good. Green Arrow's costumes looks good, Supergirl looks good, Flash's earlier costumes looked legit. Atom and Firestorm dont look half bad. There are some that are just flat out bad (cough*Superman*cough) and look
silly but I think for the most part the costumers put effort into suiting the heroes up.
