Iron Fist Iron Fist General Discussion Thread - Part 4

I think Finn is an alright Danny for what he has been given. Hopefully they bring in a new showrunner should this get a 2nd season, or even a Heroes for Hire show.

Its not a bad show, but it could and should be so much better in my eyes. Oh, and at least give him the mask. Anything else he wears can be yellow and green and that would be acceptable.

Defenders is Heroes for Hire under a new name.

Well Cage is getting a second season and thats confirmed, if IF doesn't, I could just see them making Cage S2 a HFH show.

But, at the risk of sounding superficial, I really need this show to wow me with the action. The fight scenes are getting better but I've yet to have that DAAAMNNN moment like in DD. Hopefully its coming.

That's pretty much where I'm at. I was hoping for some better martial arts action. But, so far, 5 episodes in, I don't think they really know which way they want to go. It feels like this weird mashup of Into the Badlands and Daredevil, but it isn't working.

And the casting seems a bit weird. And I think it is a very, very good thing that they kept Danny white, as I suspect it would've been much more offensive otherwise...

And to be perfectly fair, Cheo Hodari-Coker would have a better handle on who Danny Rand is with a much stronger narrative voice and less contrived plots and character development.

But it already exists and it's called Defenders.njts coming later this year and it might redeem Iron Fist.

yeah, get scott buck out away from this asap. I feel bad for people interested in the Inhumans show.

I'm now VERY curious to see how Finn will play Danny in Defenders with new writers and the creative team behind Daredevil running the show. I'm expecting an almost completely different characterization a la Scarlett Johanson's Black Widow in IM2 to BW in The Avengers.

I'm really hoping the showrunners took notice to how weak Scott Buck's interpretation was and rewrote the character otherwise Finn could potentially bring the team dynamic down.

Honestly, I do not think Danny is crappy in this show. Maybe the least of the Netflix main stars, but I like the character and the show overall so far. I have episodes 12 and 13 to watch still

Im also worried. The issues with Iron Fist were problems with dialog, changing motivations, inconsistent characterization, using retcons as reveals within the same season, too many characters and too many subplots. Those flaws aren't intrinsic to Iron Fist but Inhumans has a basic unlikability to it thanks to the slavery, isolationism and xenophobia which defines who the Inhumans are. I get the feeling that people will root for Maximus instead.

I hope so too. Avengers Widow worked so much better. Finn Jones isn't a bad actor and he needs to be given stronger material to work with. Hopefully a change in showrunners will redeem the character enough for a Season 2 of Iron Fist under a different showrunner.

No, Cage 2nd season still has to solve some unfinished business. Still have characters like Shades and Mariah to deal with. I don't believe they can mix with the story line of The Hand. Unless The Hand gets dealt with in Defenders.

I don't expect to see a wholly different character in Defenders. I think the emotional side of the character should and will be toned down. But I think we'll still see the boyish/optimistic side, the guy who wants to do what he thinks is right without thinking about the consequences. That will help play up the contrast between he and the other Defenders, especially he and Luke.

eh, they managed to handle the Punisher/Hand stuff in Daredevil S2 just fine in.

I think they can present a sound 13 episode season that features both storylines.

This show had some issues, but overall, I liked it a lot. Yeah, the characterizations were not always consistent and the show did fall into some cliches, but this show had a lot to offer. Liked the villains, liked Danny, and I liked the core story, in particular I loved everything dealing with the Hand. Yeah, the show could have done more with the flashbacks, but that was a budget thing and largely they kept the fantastical aspects of his origin in cannon of the show.

Of the Netflix shows, I would rank them Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Iron Fist, and then Luke Cage.

On episode 5 and I do think the fight scenes are lacking something but the show do far has been pretty good. It's going to take me a while to watch it all because the wife wants to watch as well. She knows nothing about the character and is loving it so far.

I'm sorry but this show felt like an imitation of Arrow Season 1. The flashbacks were handled poorly to the point where i didn't understand why we needed them. Colleen and Claire were really the only people I liked this season. Ward and his sister were annoying and don't get me started on the dad. Danny is so........meh, first i was annoyed that he spent nearly an hour trying to convince his former friends who he was. Then he's suppose to be the IF (In his own words) but doesn't even know how to be it. Kinda funny when someone shows up and knows about the IF more than him. Wasn't he training for like 14 years? WTF was his doing lol

The fight choreography felt like it was in slow mo. You can tell that they just had the actors practice and let em loose. IF is suppose to be one of the best fighters in the MCU and he looks like he'll be bested by DD 1 on 1. It reminded me of Bale's fights in TDKT, i'm surprised they didn't use the same team from DD (or maybe they did?). Idk, it just seemed all over the place. Every time i thought they were going forward they took 2 steps back. Buck needs to leave if they have a season 2 because you could tell his fingerprints were all over this.

The are all problems Dexter had as well so I would definitely expect Inhumans to suffer. I'm enjoying the show for the most part, but Danny being an idiot and general dialogue issues are apparent. I still prefer this to Luke Cage's heavy handed pandering.

I preferred the Punisher story way more than the Hand. When the season started to shift a lot towards the Hand and Elektra I checked out.

Hopefully they find a way to better balance Mariah storyline with the Hand. They did mention an intern of the mayor being part of the Hand. Wouldn't be surprised if her young assistant is involved so that is a connection.

I would like to ask all those who see so many "dialogue" problems what is your opinion on the CW shows? because i don't see many of you being so vocal there about the characters or the writing. Double standards?

I think they specifically wrote him to react to scenarios at the moment rather than having a consistent portrayal that can organically bounce off those moments. Or he's supposed to be bipolar :oldrazz:

I don't know, I feel like he's a lot more consistent in the episodes post-3. Its mainly those first couple eps where he seems to be directed to "Act like your a crazy dude". Past that, he's naive and goofy, but not seemingly incoherent.

Eh, the CW shows can get away with it because they have a totally different tone and style. Soap opera is expected to be melodramatic. The Netflix shows, including this one. . . are not soap opera. So there are different standards for good dialog.

I think a lot of it too is we're being told not shown what Dannys morivation is and what he went through to get to where he is now. We get sparse, vague flashbacks of him on a mountain and we havent really a solid idea of what shaped this character.

Maybe they don't even watch those because of the bad writing. I have seen every episode of Flash and Supergirl because i find it hilariously bad. Iron Fist almost has that same vibe.

I only watch the Flash now.

I never watched LoT seems like a pointless show.
Only watched one Supergirl which was the Flash crossover. I never cared about it.
I recently dropped Arrow, I may go back to it in the Summer.

I don't watch these shows because I know the dialogue will be bad and they cater to shippers.
