Lol, have any of you guys ever actually sat down and taken a look at some game's cutscenes? This isn't the days of Atari and Pong, graphics have gone a long way in video gaming.

You don't need context when judging special effects.

On another note, anyone know when the next theatrical trailer will be playing for the movie? I'd imagine within the next few weeks we should be expecting one.

Yeah right now I'm playing Mass Effect and Assassins Creed, and while the cut scenes are good, there still pretty much standard animation grade CG.

It does in a 30 second spot but once we sit down to watch a 2 hour movie our eyes and brain become adjusted to the F/X. It's easy to pick it apart but honestly looking at the stills above and the trailer it still looks awesome to me.
If kept at the same level of realism it currently is now, it will still look fake even in the context of the movie. The only way it won't look out of place is if every other shot is equally as poor. But judging by the rest of the CGI in the trailer, this isn't the case.

I just saw the spot for the first time and...WOW!

I mean what can I say? The movie looks so much fun! Crazy action and a charismatic performance by Downey jr.

Yeah. I can fly. :im:

To say the CGI is poor is very inaccurate, its actaully very good, does it seem out of place with the rest of the commercial yes, but that's ok, as long as it doesn't make it to the movie that way.
As for what the commercial is doing on variuos poll's that irrelavant, the purpose of the commerial was to garner awarness among the general audience and it serviced it's purpose nicely.
It did well in some poll's even winning them, and it didn't do well in other's, that's ok, as long as people are talking about the film.
The USA today poll, most people who are voting in that are looking for the humorous Budwiser commerial or a funny Pepsi commercial, there not really interested in the films.

The Superbowl spot was amazing. I loved every bit of it, especially the final confrontation with the Tank.

Still....4th worst of all of them? Thats near Hulk levels which was THE worst. Matrix Reloaded and War of the Worlds both had the highest rated ads of anything in their super bowls. Batman Begins was in the middle of the pack i recall, nothing amazing but not bad at all.

I just want to put my 2 cents in on the last scene from the spot. I am 99% sure that was a cut scene from the video game which is being released along side the movie. I know I have seen that footage before and I've been looking for it everywhere. I think Favreau may have added it, even though its not in the movie, becuase it added action, and was frankly pretty cool which what this trailer seems to be trying to do, be cool to attract the younger teenage crowd. There have been trailers before where footage in the trailer was not in the movie, the Star Trek trailer from a couple of weeks ago is a good example, brand new footage just for a trailer, never to be seen again. I bet they thought the scene was cool, the CGI was good enough, and it would work to attract that demographic, and they wouldn't have to waste time polishing or rushing unfinished cgi work for the trailer. I dunno, just my 2 cents.

the tv spot was amazing....
i didnt know they had all those cool pics on the ironmanmovie.com website as well

Yeah it was like a another present, getting all those nice pictures.

Again, that's just 1 poll out of many, I'm not going to base the success of the film off of what USA Today's superbowl commercial had Iron man placed.

Iron Man was the best movie commercial. Wall-E was second best to me.

I'm not sure how much of this high-octane trailer has been in theaters already, but not having seen any of the footage, this trailer made me want to take a pill that will make me sleep a long dreamless sleep until May 2, then wake up and go to the theater immediately. So yeah, I'd say it did the job.

Grade: A

From Time, and I agree, I'm going to have many a restless night thinking about and waiting for the Iron Man movie.

The only people that think that looked like a video game is people that play video games. Everyone else thought it looked pretty tight.

if that looked like a videogame, then it would be the most badass video game of all time. also stupid heads: the movie isnt done yet, so no matter how nitpicky you are they still have time to brush up on the already great effects

Poor? You're laughable. There was nothing "poor" about that spot.

ESPN.com has Iron Man as the BEST movie commercial.

This site...

http://www.spotbowl.com/Leaderboard.aspx

has Iron Man's 30 seconds as the 3rd best spot of the ENTIRE lot. (vote for yourself)

Still, polls only reflect a small portion. They're all basically meaningless.

8/10 thought the spot was great, didnt think the CGI at the end was that bad either.

This isn't ILM people ($$$$$), so expect CGI on about the same level as the Spider-man movies (good, great in some spots, not so good in others).

More importantly, this is obviously going to be a comicbook fantasy film in the same vein as Superman and Spider-man. Yes, the action more than likely will get cartoony. But then, what kind of film were you expecting?

I can already hear this films detractors way before it even comes out:

"...corny, cartoony...."

"...wasn't serious enough..."

"...to campy. Reminded me of Power Rangers..."

For a 30 sec. trailer it was great and it did it's job perfectly. It made no attempt to hide, conceal or mislead viewers about what kind of film it is. IM will be a straight-up comicbook fantasy film in the same vein as Spider-man. I wouldn't be surprised to hear some eventual comparisons to the Rocketeer.

I know it's way to early to say, but I thinking 3 starts or 3.5 stars, much like the first Spider-man film.

This is truly, so far, the only film I am looking forward to this summer.......I want to get excited about the Hulk, but there just isn't enough info.
