I heard that they haven't even scheduled a time for the movie to come out which leads some to believe that it won't come out until after Avengers 2 :/ So will Ant Man be in the movie anyway? If he isn't then I'm not really sure who will serve as new characters other than the GotG characters

It'll be apart of Phase 2, they're filming it next year in London, Feige and many others have said it'll likley be a third 2014 release. It's very likley, unless its seperate canon, that one of the Ant-Men from the movie will be in A2. But no, it's not confirmed.

So if Feige said it's part of Phase II then doesn't that mean it's technically confirmed? It'd make a good deal if sense for them to include him and maybe Wasp too.

Maybe? Who knows.

Depends on what Wright does with him. And if they aren't going to tackle Ultron there's almost no point in adding him. So we'll see.

In a perfect world......yes, he would be in Avengers 2.

No one knows for sure if they're going to do Ant-Man before Avengers 2, but they've already been working on it for some time.

i know a lot of ppl love ant-man but i dont think you must have him in a avengers movie. and i thought he was supposed to get his own solo flick.

Nothing anyone has said or written here convinces me they need Hank Pym in this movie. If you don't need Ultron, you don't need Pym. And they DONT need Ultron. There are many other options for villain.

If Edgar Wright pulls off his movie, then they can add him down the road at some point.

It's not the character, but just the name that will turn people off when they hear of "Ant-Man." That name will be hard to sell to audiences if incorporated in an Avengers movie, and the fact that his abilities are to shrink and talk to ants won't change the public view either. Such action will be pretty tough to translate to the big screen visually.

Right, basing a superhero around a bug is a terrible idea. Laughable, really. No one will ever buy into it

Dramatically speaking, the deconstruction of Hank Pym, mostly due to Ultron, presents a lot of opportunities that other characters don't.

Can they do it without him? Yes. Can they do it with him? Yes. Depends on where they want to take it.

Depends if the solo film works or not, I guess thats sort of the test for him.

Yup. Which means it will be too late to include him in TA2. Unless I'm missing something (always a possibility).

I don't think Ant-Man will be in Avengers 2. Wright's got no deadline, there's no assurance it'll be in before Avengers 2, or that the script has at some point become compatible with Avengers 2.

Ant-Man seems to be pretty much a go, for a 2014 release

They threw Thor and Cap into the first Avengers flick without seeing if their solo flicks worked first. If they want Pym in the sequel they'll put him in there.

Please, spare the comparison between Ant-Man and Spider-Man. Spidey doesn't shrink and talk to spiders. Thank you.

Totally different. Without Thor and Cap there is no Avengers period. Instead you wouldve had a buddy movie with IM and the Hulk. Outside of CB nerds (like myself), no one knows who theh hell Hank Pym is and therefore wont miss him.

Im okay with Pym being in an Avengers movie, but there is absolutely no reason to throw him in there before theyve completely tested out the character in a solo movie. By the time the first weekend BO numbers start to come in on Ant-Man, it will be far too late to add him to the movie. Pym is not the same as Cap or Thor or any of the other better known characters. They'll wait and see, as they should. Ill be shocked if they dont.

And comparing Spidey to Ant-Man is ridiculous. For the above reason as well as the fact that Spidey is the most popular superhero in the world next to Batman. And even that is debatable. (Supes might be the most well-known, but not the most popular).

Now if Whedon happens to love the Ant-Man character, maybe he will throw him in there anyway. I just dont see that happening.

Why does the Ant-Man solo movie's box office take matter? We're talking about a supporting character here. Do you think a Hawkeye movie or a Maria Hill movie would be big? The Avengers sequel sells itself, it won't matter either way if Edgar Wright's movie bombs. If Marvel feels comfortable moving forward with his take on the character, they presumably believe in it and would be fine with it being incorporated in their world

(PS: I fully expect Edgar Wright to make a great movie that will bomb at the box office)

Also the comparison was in reference to people laughing off the character based on his name. He is obviously much less famous than Spider-Man. But this:
It's not the character, but just the name that will turn people off when they hear of "Ant-Man." That name will be hard to sell to audiences if incorporated in an Avengers movie
is a completely arbitrary and silly point. Hence my bringing up Spider-Man

Only problem is that when people see a trailer for "Ant-Man", the majority will assume "Spidey rip-off" and laugh. There's also more people afraid of spiders than ants for what it's worth.

More than any other core member of the Avengers, Ant-Man needs "testing out". Heck, I'm a fan and Im not convinced at all that the character will work within the MCU/Avengers dynamic. Or that, absent his personal melodrama, he will bring anything to the team. They already have two resident geniuses after all.

I definitely dont have any interest in spending TA2 screen time on Hank Pym's person problems, which is an issue since this is largely what makes him interesting.

This post depresses me so very much.

Anyways, I think the problem with Ant-Man would be solved if they simply called him Giant-Man.
