Is Face/Off really the best action movie ever?

That's the point. McClane's just a regular joe who finds himself in perilous situations and fights his way out of it. He doesn't have an essence or style.

He's just a terrible cliche stereotype character, there's nothign that makes me want to watch anything, in fact I want him to fail throughout, Bruce Willis showing why he's always cast in the same roles....(because that's all he can do, and barely at that.)

Yeah, but so was John Wayne.

Best action film? No, I don't think so. Though I did enjoy how John and Nick switched roles and acted like each other.

Funny story. I took my (then) girlfriend Laura to see that movie. At the end of the movie Laura whispers to me, "You know that I'm not really Laura, right? I'm actually Mindy wearing Laura's face." I replied, "Well that's good because I'm not really Jose, I'm actually Roland wearing Jose's face". Roland and Mindy are friends of ours that are married to each other. Okay, here's the funny part, that night in bed, in the heat of passion I said, "Oh Mindy!" She got pissed really fast and literally jumped out of bed with a look of shock on her face. I then said, "Hey, you told me earlier today that you were Mindy." She calmed down after that.

The Best Action Movies in no particular order:

The Rock
Die Hard
Die Hard 2
Temple of Doom
Pointbreak
Bad Boys
Bad Boys II
Mission Impossible II
Aliens
First Blood
Rambo
Predator
Total Recall

and FTW!

Today, with the bunches of action films that have come after it, yes McClane would be a cliched character but judging from when the film came out and how it has stood the test of time to now, it's an awesome flick.

Why is there only 3-4 people in this thread that actually really like Face/Off. Everyone seems to just brush it off.

I like Face/Off. It's up there in the good action movie ranks.

McClane was there before the cliches.

who is also unenjoyable

Whoa...

The cliche character has existed for a very long term, in literature, television etc, so no, nothing new.

Here's some trivia the climax boat chase scene was originally intended for the Jean Claude Van Damme stinker Hard Target also directed by John Woo, by I think Van Damme requested it taken out because he's a pansy.

You realize Van Damme could easily kick the $hit out of anyone on this forum

Suddenly we're dangerously close to that episode of The Simpsons where Homer becomes a tutor on succesful marriage....

John Wayne is crap ..IMO

Unenjoyable? The greatest American film star of all-time?

Not by a long shot. He did give the same performance over and over again, not even subtle differences, some of his stuff is alright, although very little rewatchability and range.

I don't like John Wayne either. I think only film I liked where he were was The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance.

Face/Off is so stupid. I hate it. It's implausible and I couldn't even get past that. I didn't think the acting was that great.

Notice I never said, "The greatest actor," I said, "The greatest American film star of all time."

my tops ones are

Bad Boys
The Rock
Terminator 2
Last Action Hero
True Lies
Matrix
Robocop (including the ending to robocop 2)

also, this is in my top ten favourite movie posters of all time. It's just pure bliss and captures the mid 90s era perfectly.

Face Off the best action movie ever????
F**K NO! god Cage is the most hacky actor in history and Travolta might as well be furnature for all the good he does in movies.

I've seen a lot of respectible reviewers (including Empire magazine) name Face/Off as one of, if not the, best action movie ever. I've never rated it very highly - indeed, it was sanwiched between The Rock and Con Air, both of which I prefer.
from what i remember, no it isnt, but i havent seen the movie in along time, i never even watched the whole movie, i was young and the face coming off **** scared the **** outta me

Its like Simon Pegg and Nick Frost said. Bad Boys 2 owns all. Its the most over the top action movie ever made.
