Is Face/Off really the best action movie ever?

the last action hero and true lies are both far more over the top than bad boys two.

Bad Boys 2 is over the top. Still one of the best action movies I have seen I've seen.

The Rock contains much better performances than any of the Bad Boy films. Even with the over the top action, The Rock still contains some emotional scenes. The death of Michael Biehn and all his soldiers, Ed Harris' death, Nic Cage's attempt to stop the bombs from being dropped. It also contained Hans Zimmer best piece of work, IMHO.

A much superior film to Bad Boys II

Am i the only one that noticed, and was bothered by, all the noticable wires during the stunts? Did they forget to digitally erase them, or is it meant to be a tribute to all the earlier action films where wires were easily spotted by the audience?

Face Off was a good film but a long way off from being best action movie ever

Golgo13, are you talking about Face/Off?

With Bad Boys 2, I love that movie.
It's a good action/comedy. I also love Bad Boys.

Yeah. The scene where Castor Troy crashes the plane into the hangar, and the battle with the FBI that insues. There are multiple parts where yu can see the stunt wires clearly visable as Castor and Pollicks blast the FBI agents.

Also the scene where Cage (as Archer) kills Pollicks by kicking him through the window, you can clearly see the stunt wire in that scene also.

LOL, I never noticed, but then again, I haven't seen this movie in a while. :o

Yeah, check it out. It's just ssssooooo riduculously obvious that i can't believe anyone in post-production would have missed it. That's why i asked if it was done as a tribute.

Edit:

It's funny in the Youtube clip, the wire can't be seen. But on the VHS tape i have, it's as clear as day. maybe they re-mastered it later on..

I know when the FBI guy at 00:45 and 00:48 gets blasted, the wire, on my VHS tape is as clear as day.

If you own it check it out and see if it's there.

WoW a hard choice really. I enjoy face-off, a lot of the action is good, overstylized but still brutal. John and nic did some good performances in there specially nic cage acting over the top as castor troy. the shoot out scenes are very good. The whole face switching idea is well handled without making you role eyes. But its not the best action film ever. Heck none is to me since there are so many good ones. The best for me are this in no particular order.

Die hard

Commando

Rambo first blood

For a fist full of dollars(yes that's action and eastwood at his most badass)

The professional

terminator 2

Terminator

Die hard 2

predator

predator 2

con-air

MI-2

Scarface

Robocop

bad boys

The rock

and the list goes on and on.

Face Off isn't the best, that title goes to Die Hard, imo.

who is also unenjoyable

Boy are you annoying. John Wayne has some of the best movies ever. He plays a similiar character but thats because he did it so well. He actually was a good actor but it was his charisma and larger-than-life persona that made (and make) people love him.

I'd say Raiders, Die Hard, Predator, Rambo II, and the Mad Max movies are some of the top action movies, not including sci-fi movies like The Matrix or the plethora of comic book movies.

I've seen a lot of respectible reviewers (including Empire magazine) name Face/Off as one of, if not the, best action movie ever. I've never rated it very highly - indeed, it was sanwiched between The Rock and Con Air, both of which I prefer.

Face/Off is the best action movie if you haven't seen John Woo's The Killer which is awesome since it's completely untamed John Woo plus all the martial arts heritage mixed into gun play comes off beautifully. While Face/Off is great due to the two main performances.

i think the matrix takes it.

granted, we'll have to see how dated it is in ten years or so, but for now (at almost 10 years old) it holds up perfectly.

The thing is, Matrix is more complete because not only it has style, memorable action scenes and suspense, but the story makes many links with famous history characters and fables. Pretty philosophical.

word to your mother.

and by that i mean yes, you are correct.

Thank you for your approval, Morpheus will get you out of the cave

In terms of straight action, I'd say yes, with a tie for Die Hard. A movie like T2 or Aliens is too different for me to compare them the same way, being such sci fi films.

...I don't care what anyone says Conan the Barbarian and the Rock are the best action films ever made.

None of them films, best action film ever would be something like Predator or RockyIV.
