I wonder when Advanced Dark is going to start all the gay audience posts.

And I was wondering when you were going to show up with some kind of personalized knock, and sure enough you're right on cue.

Stop. Or Papa Spank. :o

Man!! What a great pick!!

Put a mustache on him and he's Tony Stark.

Plus, he'd be great to play a guy who understands alcoholism, too. He bring a lot of cred to this role!!:woot:

I'm not too sure yet about Robert Downey jr. as Tony Stark/Iron Man. He's got talent, but I mostly see him as the goof off instead of someone that can get serious and tough. It will be interesting to see how it evolves and if he can pull it off.

I guess you didn't see "U.S. Marshalls" with Tommy Lee Jones and Wesley Snipes??

His problems with substance abuse, will probably help him play a more rwalistic Tony Stark. I never thought of him as Tony, but he has the perfect look and great acting skills.

voted No.

He just doesnt seem like a Tony Stark to me, nor a Valiant Super Hero kind of man.

Robert Downey Jr. is a comedy type actor, from what I've seen.

Iron Man is not comedy, Iron Man is a Bad MoFo!

Wow... Now I remember why I don't post on these boards anymore, 90% of these posts are absolute crap. First off... You were not there when downy audition, acting is an art, we don't know what Downy is bringing to the table in terms of performance, keep that in mind. But bear in mind that Downy is an accomplished actor with many acclomades but that doesn't nessarrially mean it'll automatically be good ala Batman Returns or even Catwoman. We need to wait and see, but those saying off the bat it's going suck are ******ed fanboys, it's really as simple as that. So with that said I voted yes, on the appeal that Downy has impressed me and given me plenty of entertaining movies, and people need to stop type casting.

Ironman is not comedy but Tony Stark is. Robert Downey definetly has the Tony Stark part down, a playboy billionaire, with substance abuse problems, and not a care in the world.

It may not help (if you think the Hulk stunk), but before Bana was cast in it, he was a stand up comedian, followed by a role as a beefy psychotic prisioner.

So, people can change, and Downey Jr has proven himself capable of such roles (Less than Zero, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, A Scanner Darkly, etc)

Inspired casting, IMO.

wow. this has got to be the worst casting decision i've ever seen. and that's taking Superman Returns and FF into consideration. i like downey as an actor, but for Iron Man? no.

any hope and interest i had for this movie has now been completely dashed.

This is how I feel as well. Michael Keaton did an impressive job as Batman/Bruce Wayne when everyone out there said it was a bad move. Ironically, other than Christian Bale, I think Keaton was the best Batman.
kilmer? clooney? that's not saying much.

I'm sorry to hear this news. =(
The guy has always seemed kind of wimpy to me....

Nice find

He looks there great.

BTW, is Stark in comics tall?

I don't think that Stark is that tall, I always think of him him as average height. The Armor adds a few inches though.

sure we do. we have his entire body of work as evidence. it's enough for someone to make an informed decision. it's not some leap of faith as it would be were the actor a complete unknown.

Hence, why he wears a super-powered suit of armor.

Ugh, I can't stand Downey Jr. He's an over-actor, and I hate his smug mugging in most movies. Plus Jeezus the guy is 41! Almost as laughable a casting choice as Jessica Alba!

So it's ******ed to vote "no" but ok to vote "yes"? Hummm......

I didn't realize that Tony Stark was supposed to be a teenager.

the character didn't start out as a 41-year old man, either.

Then, they should just make Dawney to look a bit taller on screen.

Stark is a handsome, lady killer, rich playboy type in the vain of Howard hughes. Rpbert D. simply isn't that. he is not the "handsome" type.
Downey is hot. He has that swaggering, debonaire, handsome, ladies man hotness and always has.

I couldnt have cared less about this movie until I heard Downey was cast. It is now obvious what type of movie this is going to be. Casting a legendary actor such as Downey, who is known for his multifarious and commanding character interpretations, instead of some popular crap actor just to get asses in the seats has been the key to every comic adaptation success.

It is now conclusive the powers that be are going to make a quality movie instead of something like Daredevil, Fantastic Four and Elektra.

Casting Downey was the first step to making a comic adaptation of Iron Man in the same league as the new BB and Spider-Man movie franchise.

There aren't too many alcoholic billionaire industrialist weapons engineers in their early 20's either.

While most comic characters start their careers as teenagers....Stark didn't.
