I'm not too sure yet about Robert Downey jr. as Tony Stark/Iron Man. He's got talent, but I mostly see him as the goof off instead of someone that can get serious and tough. It will be interesting to see how it evolves and if he can pull it off.

Wow... Now I remember why I don't post on these boards anymore, 90% of these posts are absolute crap. First off... You were not there when downy audition, acting is an art, we don't know what Downy is bringing to the table in terms of performance, keep that in mind. But bear in mind that Downy is an accomplished actor with many acclomades but that doesn't nessarrially mean it'll automatically be good ala Batman Returns or even Catwoman. We need to wait and see, but those saying off the bat it's going suck are ******ed fanboys, it's really as simple as that. So with that said I voted yes, on the appeal that Downy has impressed me and given me plenty of entertaining movies, and people need to stop type casting.

It may not help (if you think the Hulk stunk), but before Bana was cast in it, he was a stand up comedian, followed by a role as a beefy psychotic prisioner.

So, people can change, and Downey Jr has proven himself capable of such roles (Less than Zero, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, A Scanner Darkly, etc)

Inspired casting, IMO.

wow. this has got to be the worst casting decision i've ever seen. and that's taking Superman Returns and FF into consideration. i like downey as an actor, but for Iron Man? no.

any hope and interest i had for this movie has now been completely dashed.

This is how I feel as well. Michael Keaton did an impressive job as Batman/Bruce Wayne when everyone out there said it was a bad move. Ironically, other than Christian Bale, I think Keaton was the best Batman.

sure we do. we have his entire body of work as evidence. it's enough for someone to make an informed decision. it's not some leap of faith as it would be were the actor a complete unknown.

Stark is a handsome, lady killer, rich playboy type in the vain of Howard hughes. Rpbert D. simply isn't that. he is not the "handsome" type.

Downey is hot. He has that swaggering, debonaire, handsome, ladies man hotness and always has.

I couldnt have cared less about this movie until I heard Downey was cast. It is now obvious what type of movie this is going to be. Casting a legendary actor such as Downey, who is known for his multifarious and commanding character interpretations, instead of some popular crap actor just to get asses in the seats has been the key to every comic adaptation success.

It is now conclusive the powers that be are going to make a quality movie instead of something like Daredevil, Fantastic Four and Elektra.

Casting Downey was the first step to making a comic adaptation of Iron Man in the same league as the new BB and Spider-Man movie franchise.
