Is there too much division in America?

ANES survey data deals with voting, not demographics as a whole. Nice try. Show me some US census data to support your claim. Oh that's right, you can't.

When you consider that the GLBT population the following cities: San Francisco (15%), New York (8%), Seattle (12.9%), Atlanta (12.8%), Minneapolis (12.5%) and Denver (8.2%)... I would definitely guarantee that the GLBT population makes up more than 1% of our overall population.

Gay Lesbian Bisexual and Transgendered?
The bi sexual inclusion probably makes the polling fuzzy.Kinsey's report from 1948 placed 10% of the American population as gay.But only because he would ask if you've had "at least one homosexual encounter."
Thats millions of college girls right there.

So, just because YOU haven't been conviced, society can't adjust?

Most of society also has yet to be convinced. It's not just me. And I don't see why we should adjust our lives for them. Maybe some of us like the way we've lived as a culture w/ regards to this subject? How terrible of us!:wow:

Mind you-- these people self-identify themselves as a member of the population. Therefore, there may be more of us out there who haven't "come out" yet.

Actually, a national poll released a few months ago showed that the public was split virtually in half on their support for gay marriage... those who opposed gay marriage had a slight edge over those who supported it, but neither side hit above 50% in that poll... so to say that most of society has yet to be convinced is stretching it...

And white people loved how slavery went.... does that make it right?

Or are gay people not like black people? You know, a minority that was born a certain way and get discriminated against for it...

There's no proof that you are. And even then, you have to take action to be truly gay. Having tendencies that you might not act upon ain't enough. By contrast, black people don't have to act black in order to be black. And I'm getting kind of insulted when gay people continue to think of themselves as the new black people.

Fine. Then why don't you show me some data which proves your claim?

Oh--that's right, you can't, because you are pulling your claims out of your ass.

I've been told by other black people that I am not black enough because of tendencies....

Also, the U.S. Census doesn't ask for information pertaining to sexual orientation. Only same-sex couples are recognized by the Census, not single homosexuals or transgendered persons.

A man kissing another man is a homosexual "act".
So for humors sake, give me an example of a black "act".
Yelling at the theater screen? Eating chicken? :whatever: wtf can you possibly say to justify that comment that isn't inherently prejudice??

Um... I'm not gay.

And I'm getting kind of insulted that you want to discriminate against people for absolutely no reason at all.

Nor is the US Census 100% accurate.

Me getting married does not require you to adjust anything about your own life. You are the one expecting me to live according to your values, not the other way around.

And even then, you have to take action to be truly gay.

So does a man have to have sex with a woman before he is "truly straight"?

And I'm getting kind of insulted when gay people continue to think of themselves as the new black people.

You are getting kind of insulted? LOL! We're the ones being discriminated against and denied the same rights everyone else takes for granted, we are the ones who in some states can still be fired from our jobs for our orientation, or be denied the right to visit our significant other in the hospital because we aren't recognized as a family member, and you are "kind of insulted"? Who the hell cares? :cmad:

Yeah, but who pulled one first?:cwink:

I'm almost thinking this thread could be merged with the Gay Rights thread because it has moved off topic so far...

I gave you two sources where I received my information from.

Then you were the one who responded with a ridiculously low number, and deriding my sources (even though the respondents from the ANES survey data actually, you know, admitted to being gay. So at least 9% were self-identified homosexuals, and I doubt many people would LIE about that).

So, provide me with information which proves your claims are correct. Otherwise, I suggest you stop spewing this imbecilic garbage out of your mouth before its fumes of ignorance causes each and every one of us to wrap our jaws around our heads and devour our brains.

Psht... I disagree with you... you 'fake' american! Go back to 'fake' America!
I'm as real as America gets dammit! I'm realler than Real, I'm so real, I'm fo'Real!:cmad:

I believe I said blacks don't need to act a certain way in order to be black.

And kissing a member of the same sex doesn't make you gay. Having sexual intercourse with them might, but there are other considerations there as well(i.e. prison rape, bisexuality, person just really needed the money, etc.).:cwink:

But sexuality, homo or hetero, isn't equatable with ethnicity. Ethnicity requires no action to qualify it. Sexuality does.

Psht. You talking like a black person means you're a 'fake' American! My 'fake' American-dar is rating you deep in the fakeness side of the spectrum!

Go back to the east coast! :cmad:

:hehe:

You're right on that. Anyway, back to topic. The division's are not going to go away. Maybe what we need is more political fragmentation. Two parties just aren't nearly enough.
