It's a Bird, It's a Plane, It's the Superman Costume Thread! - Part 3

I always liked this design:

But the MoS suit is a work of genius.

im sorry but that suit looks awful. it looks like what people in the 70s imagined what future superman would look like.

What do you people think of this first version of the costume took from the 13 minutes featurette? :) No yellow in the S, long line uniting the symbol to the belt... Kinda weird, but interesting!

Are we sure that is what this is? I think it is just them putting the suit together. I remember seeing little cutouts in the feature as well.

im glad they modified the suit into what we see now... that line going down the middle is distracting and unneeded

I am doing my bit to bring back the latter; don't quite have the balls for the former.

I was just now with a group of high schoolers who were saying they loved that they did away with the red underwear because they thought it made Superman look silly and childish. It was the first time I've ever been around an entire group of high schoolers who were excited about a Superman movie and thought it looked cool.

The new suit definitely fits the theme of an alien suit. It has a purpose and makes sense in the story. I love it, but then again I'm a Superman fan and not just a red underwear fan or a Chris Reeve fan.

We should bring cod pieces and man heels back too.

I totally agree and I'm definitely a Chris Reeve fan, being that I grew up with him as my hero. Never had any strong feelings either way about the underwear so it doesn't bother me to see it go.

But yeah the alien looking suit idea makes absolutely perfect sense and I'm so glad they went with that for this movie....the suit looks awesome!

I'm not a fan of the "ab padding" they added to the suit. It just sort of looks pretty unnatural.

The suit already gives off a pretty muscular look i think the abs were just overkill.

I don't think it's padding, which adds fake muscles. It's been described as body molding, which contours to the real muscles. Most tight materials like spandex actually don't contour around muscles, thus hiding a lot of definition.

For the rest of the suit yes but like i mentioned the abs stick out and don't particularity match cavil's natural muscularity.

It just looks like he's hiding a turtle shell under there.

I've been saying this from the start, I've been ignoring the "p-abs" as I call them (padded abs) every time I see a full body shot cause it really takes me out of watching it.

I really like this suit, getting rid of the trunks was genius, only problem I have is that theres not breakage between the blue, whereas if he had a red/yellow belt, might make it look a bit better. Within the context of the movie though, with it being a body suit and the ribbing used to connect the armor, it makes sense and I understand why they did it that way. I also noticed that between the rib piping is black not blue like I thought, so thats better, breaks it a bit more imo. Im glad they went for the alien look and also that Zod and co where similar suits. Overall a great looking suit.

It'll be fine. Cavill’s abs are noticeable in the shirtless shots. So when he’s got them as Supes, it’s not exactly a continuity mistake or a wtf? moment.

A very minor cheat - not unlike when a diminutive actress stands on a box for a kissing/close-up scene with her co-star. Then, in the wider shots, she appears shorter.

It’s a movie. Just go with it. :word:

Oh goody, the abs subject again. At this point it's :bdh:

A week before the movie opens and there's still crying of "the abs don't look real enough". UGH, what is the point? An awesome scene happens on the screen and while the rest of the crowd is cheering, the one person in the crowd is like "those abs don't look real enough, I....I just can't enjoy what I just saw because I just can't stop staring at those fake abs" :whatever:

the suit did absolutely fine in this movie, even without the trunks...

and for all of those who are and were worried about how the colors would be represented throughout the movie... you have nothing to fear. if i had to make a quick comparison, the colors of the suit were slightly brighter than what we saw in that Hardee's/Carl's Jr commercial.

the colors were absolutely beautiful, and this is coming from a STM fan. for those who still think it's too dark, you can always edit it later, but dont let the lack of trunks spoil your fun... i honestly didnt even notice it.

in some cases, i was more captivated by the presence of the suit, and how heroic it came across on screen.

I ended up really, really liking the suit. Far more then I ever thought possible. Worked really well on screen.

The suit is one of my favorites. I didn't catch any problem with it in the movie. I did notice it was lit well particularly in the scene where Supes and Lois go inside Zod's ship.

I hope they at least shorten his cape in the next film.
