To me the thing reminds me of that rock monster from Thor Dark World that get's annihilated with one swing of the hammer.

And no that's not a good thing to me. This version of The Thing to me looks terrible, I don't think he looks like the thing really and had I had not known this was for the so called Fantastic Four film I wouldn't think he was Ben just by this photo.

It actually looks a lot like the drawings I used to do as a kid . . . and that's a bad thing, because I'm no artist.

When I used to draw the Thing, the arms would never line up right, one would be bigger than the other, one arm-pit would be lower than the other etc.

These stills remind me very much of those drawings.

It's possible Fox found those old drawings of yours. You may be owed some money.

I think The Thing looks like The Thing so I'm fine with it.
But then, I've never really been a huge FF fan so I guess some will tell me my opinion is of lesser importance.

I just now went "hey babe" and showed my fiance' the latest pic of The Thing. She said "oh, is that The Thing?"

Never read a Fantastic Four comic in her life.

That's funny, my wife thought the pictures of Teller in his bungee suit were from a Divergent sequel.

That's fine, I said it doesn't look like the thing to ME :yay:

The... well... thing about the Thing’s brow is that it's there on purpose.
Jack Kirby drew a lot of stone monsters when he was drawing horror or sci-fi comics for Marvel's predecessor Atlas Comics and didn’t want to drawn yet another one. He wanted the Thing to have a dinosaur-like skin, but never did make it look right and the readers used to refer him as a stone man. Eventually Kirby gave up and drew him with a skin made of stones, but with distinctive features to make him look unique.

Did she see the other Fantastic Four movies?

If they had given him a more defined brow, I could have lived with this look...but the missing brow, the cheek bones look to defined and in the hd version of the pic it appears he has one to many digits on his hand...its a 6/10 for me on the look...I really hope they can capture the essence of the ever lovin blue eyed Thing...
I guess it could be worst, they could have given us the spikey look from the late 80's.....

I think the Thing is the most well-known "rock monster" out there. Other than Korg from Thor 2 and those rocky fallen angels from the movie Noah, no other rock humanoid comes to my mind. Show a layperson a photo of just about any rock monster, and they might say it was the Thing.

If you show her this pic:

I'll bet her response will be "oh, is that another picture of The Thing?"

In my opinion, that doesn't make it excusable to ditch Ben's other distinctive features. As others have previously noted, he's been drawn fairly consistently throughout the decades with a prominent brow, wide mouth, and symmetrical body.

Loving the two Thing pics. In the second pic it looks like Thing still has no pants?

Ben Grimm gets around. Sorry you had to learn about it this way, man.

You heard her wrong because your mind was pre-set for FF. She actually said 'Oh, is that its thing?"

And that has dick all to do with his opinion.

Nice try trying to negate it though.

Looks a lot like The Thing to me. Including a massive brow. It's not exactly the same brow he has in the comics, but that's partially because it's not a drawing, or a model of said. I like it. He looks misshapen and miserable, like its painful to be in that form.
