Did your Charizard beat his Blastoise?
No, but that would've truly been epic.

His Blastoise was about lvl 63, and I had to take advantage of it using Rain Dance to boost my lvl 49 Raichu's Thunder attacks, even after he used Full Restore a few times. But my lvl 45 Charizard delivered a Flamethrower attack that surprisingly KO'ed his lvl 60 Exeggutor with one hit.

On a side note, I just borrowed my nephew's DS and got HeartGold and I'm really impressed so far with the progress they've made from a visual standpoint. It looks really nice and colorful, especially after I was just playing Yellow a week ago.

So I'm playing White now, just got the 5th badge, and am I ever really gonna need HMs? I know I needed cut earlier, and now that I got surf just got Cobalion, where I also needed strength. But main quest, are Hms really needed otherwise?

I was having a blast with the game until about the 4th or 5th gym, then for some reason every trainer and wild Pokemon started kicking my ass. Really weird, I think its because I started battling fully evolved Pokemon, when all of mine were still in their second stages (all late-30 evolvers).

Sorry for the double post, but I had to comment on this too. I have not had any problems with this so far, being at about this point in the game right not, though I've tried to fight every trainer along the way and usually fight wild battles. It sounds how it worked for me in the old games as a kid though. As a kid, I wanted to catch new pokemon and fight the big guys, but I wanted to run past everyone else because it was always the same pokemon with the same trainer type and I thought it was boring. Being older it doesn't bother me and I do what I need to win.

So either the Gym leaders have gotten harder since the last time I played Pokemon games, or I just really suck and haven't done as good of a job training this time around, but HeartGold has really made me start to look at pokemon stats as opposed to just levels, the early stages of the Elite Four have been giving me trouble. Granted, I was just as underleveled and trained when I beat them in Leaf Green last week, but now I've actually started to looked at stats and move sets that will give me as much of an advantage as possible.

Just in case everyone didn't know (didn't notice it posted anywhere), dreamworld is up. So far tho I haven't caught anything special. Got a female Suirskit (forget the dreamworld ability, but mainly chose since only females can pass on dreamwworld abilities), and a male Guts Shinx.

The main ones I'm looking forward to now, outside of the Eevolutions, is Blaziken and Alakazam. Blaziken gets speedboost, which is just awesome. Get in a swords dance, and after one turn you easily make up for his low speed, two turns and he's outspeeding a lot. Toss in his fire, fighting, and brave bird coverage...awesome :). Then there's Alakazam, who I've always liked anyway, but now he's getting the ability that made me want to put a Reuniclus on my team, magic coat. Life orb, poison, weather effects, all non direct damage does nothing to him, awesome as well heh.

Dreamworld has a lot of potential. Tho part of me is still annoyed that you have to get on your comp to use it. I'd rather all components of a game be contained within the game itself.

You suck.

For me the leaders/elite in Red were the toughest it seemed like for the most part they got easier. Except for Wattson. Anyone else have trouble with him? I had chosen Treecko for my starter btw.

Same here with Yellow. Oh boy, It took me 6 hrs or even more to beat Gary and Elite.

I caved and bought my 1st pokemon game in a long long time

now i have some questions:

is there anyway to get my pokemon off my old pokemon blue cart and put them on the new one? (Im guessing not but worth asking just in case)

is there anyway to get the old school pokemon? I want charmander

^I'll second this somewhat; I've got some Emerald pokes I'd like to get into my Diamond version.

Going back to Gen 1, you'll have to jump trhough some hoops to get that.

is it possible in anyway to get gen 1 or you think its too far back?

Pokemon from Red/Blue/Yellow/Gold/Silver/Crystal cannot be sent over into any of the later games.

You need a DS, not a DSi or 3DS.

Have the Emerald (or Ruby, Sapphire, FireRed or LeafGreen) cart in the GBA slot and your Diamond, Pearl, or Platinum (may also apply to HeartGold and SoulSilver) card in the DS slot. Depending on how far into the game you are in the DS game, you should have the option to transfer your GBA Pokemon into your DS card.

I think you can, but you'd have to do a long line of trading from each generation. Like trade from RBY to GSC, and then from there trade to RSE until you find a compatible way to trade. I know with my Heartgold, I can migrate from my LeafGreen, but I haven't really followed any pokemon games after Generation II, so I can't give a definite answer.

Trading from GSC to RSE is impossible.

Gen I and Gen II can trade between each other (Gen I only receiving old pokemon with old moves and no held items)

Gen IV can only receive Gen III pokemon via migration in Pal Park. Migration is final, you can't send it back to Gen III.

Gen V can receive anything in Gen IV (no held items though) through transferring, also final.

ok - is there a way to get a charmander or cubone?

Get FireRed or LeafGreen, start with Charmander, progress to the Lavender Tower and catch Cubone.

Trade them both to Dia/Pea/Pla/HG/SS.

From there, trade them from that game now to B/W.

Just started playing this again. I forgot how annoying the wild pokemon are

About to face the Elite Four as we speak in Pokemon Black. That was quite possibly the most enjoyable Victory Road thus far in the series! :woot:

Just hoping I have a good enough line up at this point...

Also, the Munna C-Gear is available on the Globel Link for those who really, really want it. You'll need the code that was in the second volume of the Pokemon B/W guides but it's pretty much the same code so I'll just leave it here: PGLDR34M

Yeah, I liked how Victory Road wasn't just another really big cave.

any word on the third version of the game, hope they'll fix any problems like the trading restrictions etc

I'm at the final gym leader and I'm really bummed I can't trade over my team. I WANT MY DAMNED NIDOKING!!!

Just got done with the Elite Four and was pretty happy that I managed to beat all of them on my first try. :woot:

Also...

Really impressed with the epic scale of the ending, especially for a Pokemon game. The final battle with N and his father and finally encountering and ultimately mastering Zekrom was fantastic. Really, really looking forward to the post-story content.

I've read that Ghetsis is a pretty screwed up dude. True?

I'm training a Shedinja for a nightmare fuel team in Emerald. His Wonder Guard is interesting...but what can I do with him besides him looking cool?

The way he used [blackout]his son[/blackout], who just happens to be [blackout]none other than N[/blackout]? Yeah...
