The Amazing Spider-Man J Jonah Jameson in the Reboot

see, now i feel stupid. i thought obi was obi-wan kenobi and i thought jim was jim kirk. those aren't real quotes are they?

Agreed, I don't understand this kind of thinking either. Especially when the actor who played JJJ was a great choice in these 3 movies!

Indeed, I hope they will do the Scorpion story this time where JJJ would have a more important part!

What is there to not understand? A reboot = a fresh new start. Why in the hell would you just cast the same person again? It's a step backward: a familiar face, and something carried over from a franchise that they feel needs to be restarted. Casting the same person in the SAME role again is just makes no sense at all, and I can't help but question any person's sense who feels like they should cast the same people again. And saying 'he can play the role differently" is just ridiculous as well. "Oh here's the same guy playing the same character, but he's not the same guy, because it's a different Spiderman now, but its the same actor."

Whether or not Simmons was great or not is irrelevant. He won't and shouldn't be in the new film, and that's that.

Who cares? oes that mean we must do it for all of them? Keep the same people. I want to see someone new. There is nothing wrong with that.

I'm sure there won't be any bad casting with JJ. People are so worried aobut how bad something can turn out to be instead of looking on the great potential it has.

exactly. people need to learn to move on not worry about how bad it could turn out to be. cause if the movie would turn out bad it wouldnt because they didnt bring back simmons as jonah and bringin him back still wouldnt change that if it was a bad movie.

Q was the same in all the Bond films. Didn't hurt that franchise.

:thing: :doom: :thing:

But those weren't reboots. The only reboot was CR and even then, all 6 actors playing Bond are playing the exact same character just in different eras. Connery's Bond is supposed to be Brosnan's Bond. Craig is playing Bond from events that are supposed to occur before Dr.No took place. Additionally, Dench's M isn't the same M she was whislt Brosnan was Bond.

Casino Royale and QOS are reboots.

They just used certain elements and material from the past movies to give that familiar 007 feel.

The thing that is interesting about CR and QOS are that they ARE reboots, but still meant to be in the same continuity of the past 20 Bond movies. Not even regarded as prequels per se.

I feel the same as many of the others: Simmons really seemed to capture the character and 'disappeared into the character.' He is Jameson. But if the studio is truly rebooting the franchise, I don't look for him to return. The Bond example doesn't really work for me very well (Dench being retained as "M"). Casino Royale wasn't a complete reset reboot in the fashion Sony is describing the next Spiderman movie. In other words, they didn't shift time and place in Bond's life - so Dench remaining as "M" didn't stick out and provided continuity. The studio wants the next Spiderman to be a 'reset' back to high school and doesn't want continuity with what came before.

i'd like to see the Bugle be THE newspaper of the city this time. i almost got the impression they were struggling to survive in one of the movies (forget which one). the Bugle should be to NY what the daily planet is to metropolis.

also i'd like to see JJJ act like the comic book character this time

I never fully understood the hate JJ has for Spidey. So I did a bit of research, and came up with my own interp.

He initially hides his true feelings by thinking there are no hero's in the world and they are only out to make themselves feel better for whatever purpose. JJ has no intention of worshipping a masked criminal.
Then

JJ explains to Robbie that he was once married over 30 years ago. On the day of the wedding, JJ was shot in a drive-by and his wife was abducted...all by 1 man wearing a balaclava. With a bit of journalism,he tracked the kidnapper down. He only turned out to be the leading Detective in the case,he set up the crime to look the hero,as he felt unappreciated. The Detective killed JJ's wife, then himself.

Thats why JJ believes Spider-Man cant be trusted, and will one day be exposed as the criminal he is.

Technically, they are prequels because the idea was to go back to basics and show how and why Bond is the way he is. That being said, no one should expect to see remakes of any of the films that came before CR so in another sense you're absoloutly right. From the very start of the Bond movie series, continuity has never been regarded seriously.

As for the new movies, I want Jameson to still be humourous but not a full blown joak character. I want him to be treated seriously, more along the lines of Ed Asner's Jameson from the 90s animated series.

posted this in the other thread.

Or he is sexually attracted to Spidey so he tries to hide it by overcompensating.

At least that's how Alan Moore would write it.

Yet another reason why am not now nor will I ever be a fan of Alan Moore.

Since this is bumped...

Jeffrey Dean Morgan as J. Jonah Jameson. Maybe he's too young for 616 J.J., but he could easily be Ultimate.
