What was the best song of 2015?

It's a shame all these other Bond songs haven't been nominated. They were all better than this one.

Nobody Does It Better, which is probably the greatest Bond theme, was nominated in the year it came out and lost. That to me is truly insane.

It's like they're realizing now after all these years that Bond songs can be classics, so they're handing out the awards liberally to any old crap like Writing's on the Wall to make up for it.

There were better Bond songs than this that didn't even get nominated. "Goldfinger", "You Only Live Twice", "A View to a Kill" to name a few.

Yeah they can't honestly think Writing's is better than You Only Live Twice. But the award almost suggests it is.

Basically any song that came out between 1977-2012 they completely ignored. Its good to know that the academy being out of touch wasn't a recent development :o

They didn't completely ignore every song between those years. For Your Eyes Only was nominated for an Oscar in 1981 but lost to 'Best that you can do" from Arthur, which was admittedly a worthy winner as it was a good song.

Alright, they ignored every Bond song in a span of 31 years rather than 35.

I think with Skyfall and the 50th anniversary of the series the academy woke up to the fact that there's always going to be Bond films in the works and they're always going to feature an original song. Given how they've been trying of late to stay more relevant with the mainstream audiences, it wouldn't surprise me if they consistently nominate all of the title themes from here on out, just as a means to keep another mainstream blockbuster in the mix.

To be fair, the 60s had a larger number of films with good original songs, it was a golden age for musicals if i'm not mistaken. Though it doesn't explain much about the 70s-early 2000s

But none of the 60s Bond songs were nominated for an Academy Award. The first was Live and Let Die in 1971, then Nobody Does it Better in 77, then For Your Eyes Only in 81.

That's part of my point, the 60s were full of great original songs in film, so it makes sense why none of the Bond films in that decade weren't nominated.

Wasn't Skyfall nominated last time? That was a better song than this one, but it didn't win.

It won the golden globe and the Oscar

The media was riding high on James Bond nostalgia that year for obvious reasons

RIP Ken Adams. The production design of Bond films never managed to reach the heights he brought them to. Though QOS gave it a good try with the desert base.

Honestly the song has grown on me. Is it as good as Skyfall, or The World is Not Enough, or Goldeneye, or You Know My Name, etc, no. But, I think that it's decent in it's own right.

Maybe it's just that I thought that it worked well with the opening title sequence (which I did quite like BTW).

I think he's the best set designer ever. The franchise owes him so much. RIP.

His Fort Knox set in Goldfinger is one of my favorites. I hear the treasurer or who ever it is that manages Fort Knox sent him a letter and commended him on his creativity for it.

Cathedral of Gold is the term I've heard used to describe it and I think it fits.

My favorite though is Blofeld's volcano lair from You Only Live Twice. That thing was MASSIVE and had so many cool features like the little rail cars they ride around on.

Aidan Turner ([The Hobbit) is flying out to L.A to have further talks about taking over from Craig as Bond

He seems to have the intensity of Dalton

latest

I guess I could see him as Bond. I don't know if he always has that Dalton-like intensity though. Certainly maybe when playing Poldark, but in real life he seems a little more jovial than and speaks with an Irish accent. I don't know if he would keep that or speak with an English accent like he did in Poldark.

I'm getting a gut feeling Craig may be done. Which is a shame, but it's out of our control.

If he is indeed done I would be very dissappointed. Spectre should not be his swan song.
