James Bond 24 - Part 1

I literally thought he had an iPhone strapped to his eyepatch in Thor 2.

Did you like the awful Asian henchman? haha

It's so weird that, it went from Oddjob, who's a very cool Asian baddie to this uninspired manservant with a handlebar mustache.

Almost everything about the movie was awful. I'm watching all the Bond movies right now though. Before I had got the idea to do so, I had only seen Casino Royale and Skyfall. Y'know, the mainstream ones. :o

So far, Moore's movies have been lousy for the most part. Connery on the other hand was pretty consistent when it came to churning out good movies.

To be fair, Moore's best Bond film was 'The Spy who Loved Me'. It's the closest Moore film that feels like a Connery film.

I think the 'Man with the Golden Gun' is just a dull, dull film. Trust me, I've tried to watch it several times, and I love slow-burn films. But I think it's a movie that just doesn't work. It has hardcore pacing issues.

I have to say though, the best one so far for me was From Russia with Love. Great suspense and action. I loved the train fight with Red Grant. Nicely done.

Very bad Bond film.

Maybe the best Bond film. Red Grant = Best Bond Villain Ever.
It's interesting to note that many years later Connery as an aging Robin Hood would battle Shaw again (as the Nottingham Sheriff) in another epic fight in the great, under seen "Robin and Marian."

It was pointed out somewhere earlier in this thread, but it's amazing how much Connery just let himself go. I understand that you age in 4 years, but he looked like he aged 10-15 years between YOLT and DAF! While I didn't think he was fat, he just seemed to be out of shape.

Seriously.

I was in shock when I found out he was only 41 by Diamonds are Forever. Now these days, being 41 is still in your prime as an actor.

It's a combo of his weight, his eyebrows (He stopped plucking them), his new wig, and his disinterest when he's acting.

To be honest, it also shocked me that he was 31 in Dr. No. Seemed like he aged very quickly. He looked like he was in his early 40's in Dr. No.

Oh, and those eyebrows. LMAO, it was funny seeing them thick.

Yeah, it's kinda freaky isn't it? Only 31. Joseph Gordon Levitt, Jay Baruchel and Ryan Gosling are like 31-33 and they seem so boyish compared to Connery.

I think people aging much better these days. 40 isn't 'old' anymore. Hugh Jackman is in the best shape in his life and he's like 45. Look at the immortal Paul Rudd and Jared Leto; barely hitting their stride.

Movie stars were just more rugged back then, I guess. Him looking older was actually good for the character in the first few movies. Added more masculinity to Bond. Too bad, it wasn't really good for him later on. His aging, that is.

Moonraker was horrible, but it has one of Q's funniest lines ever:

"I think he's attempting re-entry."

:lmao:

70s Bond played to an odd species of wish fulfilment- having sex in front of everyone at the office.

I like Moonraker. The bits with Jaws (and especially his girlfriend) are rather cringeworthy and too slapstick, but underneath that, it's still a pretty good film. If Jaws were more like his previous self in TSWLM, it would be a better balance. Scenes like him trying to flap his arms to fly when he falls into the big top are rather silly, but the cable car fight between him and Bond are great.

And Drax is also a dastardly villain with some great lines.

Lois Chiles isn't one of the best Bond girls though.

I could almost be in the mood to go and rewatch Moonraker again, but I think at the moment, any Bond film is too long for me and I'd fall asleep. Too much exercising and swimming makes you sleepy.

I'd say the only Moore film I don't really like is TMWTGG. That isn't very watchable and the plot is too much like a TV plot.

Agreed with both points. I approach the Moore films as Moore films, not wanting something they're not, eg. Connery, and marking them down for it. Which I think does happen a lot. TSWLM and MR are his two best films in my opinion. Pure spectacle, his most iconic sequences and harmless fun. Both very good films for the direction they take.

I think that the two best Moore films are TSWLM and FYEO. I don't like Moonraker myself. I don't mind most of Moore's campiness (although the more grounded Bond films tend to be my favorites), but Moonraker just took it way too far. Plus it was a shameless Star Wars cash-in attempt and they ruined a really cool villain (Jaws).

Hopefully we get another well known actor maybe even actress to play the next villain.

What I want to know, is Quantum finished for good and are they moving on from that completely?

The only Moore film that I like is For Your Eyes Only. The Spy Who Loved ME doesn't do a damned thing for me. I've never been a fan of the You Only Twice-patterned over the top Bonds with the huge assaults on the villain's lair.

While I think Bond 24 is the right time to do something with Goldfinger/Thunderball scale, I really do hope we see more espionage elements.

Say what you will about Moonraker the film it still has one of the best theme songs out of the group imo.
