James Bond franchise. What needs fixing?

I like the series as it is. Finally the movies are moving in a direction closer to the books. I like the cold, stoic Bond. I like that there are no gadgets (he hates those), no Q (Major Boothroyd never figured much in the books anyways), no Moneypenny (Bond had a thing for his secretary, not M's).

You have never read a Bond book according to this comment.

The propaganda machinery of the studios is amazing. :yay:

Really, how do you figure? Does Bond like gadgets in the books, or does he think of them as a waste of time except for the briefccase he can hide his gun in. Is he the funny jokester he is in the movies or the serious, stoic killer who spoke at length about doing the devil's work in Casino Royal? Was Major Boothroyd such an active character or was in dealt with mostly mentioned, except for in Dr No? Does Bond have a thing for Moneypenny? No, he does for his own secretary Loelia Ponsonby till she left to get married.

Sure I've never read a Bond book. I just have the entire cannon, from Fleming, Amis, Pearson, Gardner, Benson, Higson, Faulks and Westbrook for the heck of it.

So you did that and still believe that Craig's movies are accurate adaptions of the books? Wow.

Did I say accurate adaptations? You somehow read that into my saying "Finally the movies are moving in a direction closer to the books." I didn't even mention DC by name yet you seemed to infer it.

What you should do is prove my assertions wrong rather than making sweeping statements such as "You have never read a Bond book according to this comment." You've not proven your assertion that I've never read the books, just said it. What part of what I've written proved to you that I've not read them?

Okay, you have. Internet makes me aggressive. I apologize. It's not good for my health ;)

Accurate Bond adaption would be rather boring, I think.

Ther series doesn't need fixing unless we're still in 2002.

I asked this question in a previous thread, and no one answered it, but I'll ask again, what about the new non-Fleming Bond novels? Are they any good? Would any of them make good films?

The movies have used bits from the books, but will never adapt one of them totally.

There are examples such as most of the first half of AVTAK is directly from John Gardner's Licence Renewed. The ice palace in that Brosnan movie is from John Gardner's Icebreaker. M getting kidnapped by Electra is from Kingsley Amis' Colonel Sun. Also, the Asian villain Colonel Sun was used in a Brosnan movie as Korean Colonel Moon. I could go on.

There's some weird stuff going on between the movie people and the book people and Al Broccoli himself once said that they will never be movies. Weirdly enough, when John Gardner got the gig writing the books in the 80's he stopped watching Bond movies because he didnt want their influence creeping in, since his Bond was the one following Fleming and Amis.

I'm probably going to wind up saying what others have already said, but I'm throwing in my two cents regardless.

What I would like to see next:

1) Daniel Craig get at least one more film to wrap up the Quantum storyline. But I would like the third film to be more like Casino Royale in terms of creating credible bad guys, having Bond use his head and not just his muscles. Also, I want him having sex again, being passionate. Craig has never quite pulled off the charm and those lines with Strawberry Fields, that was lame. When Hitman made better use of Olga K. than a Bond film something is wrong. I want this film to give Bond the closure I don't think Solace did so we can get to a looser Bond, ready with the charm and the quips.

2) I also co-sign that they should at least use titles from the other Bond novels, comics, video games, etc. out there. There's not too much left to mine from Ian Fleming I suppose. And besides, it would be awesome to have a Bond film named after Devil May Care, it's like the perfect Bond title for me. The book itself was so-so, though I liked the bad guy Gorner. Though it was set in the 1960s, there were some things that could easily be updated with that novel if they wanted to adapt it.

wow there's alot here about recasting Moneypenny and Q. Any suggestions for those roles?

I would love to see David Tennant as Q.

Does anyone remember the actress who played the hotel receptionist in Casino Royale? (Christina Cole) That's a nothing part obviously, but I think she has a certain something and I would like to see her as either a Bond girl or as Miss Moneypenny.

I haven't really thought about Q, I don't think that character should return yet, but maybe Bill Nighy.

Oh, and put the gunbarrel back at the top.

I wanna see Miss Moneypenny again in this new Craig/Bond franchise. What kind of relationship will they have? Will she hate him first? etc.. I loved Pierce Brosnan's chemistry with Samantha Bond. Q isn't important just yet, maybe have him in Bond 25.

Jesus, how many films do we need of Bond of getting closure? Bond is not that sentimental. :funny:
