The script will probably receive some tweaks by then, if Cameron hired the guy for such an important project, then he must have felt like there was something in him.

Yeah for sure, I just can't point to his track record as a supporting argument :-)

I'm expecting three good movies from this. The hate for Avatar on the nerdosphere is imo very shallow hipsterism. It doesn't have a great story, but very few films do including some beloved by the same nerdosphere.

It was a common story well executed enough, i do find the hate for Titanic even more annoying. Either way, Cameron now has to up his game, last time he had the excuse of the whole thing being a "new and cinematic experience", he also had to set up a completely new world and characters, now all of that is out of the way, and you need something more complex for the story.

I also agree that the hate for it among the nerdosphere is very shallow, when you look at some of the classics like Wizard of Oz, original Star Wars, etc. they weren't exactly the deepest or most complex movies around, just like Avatar they gave a simple and effective story that had been done before and owed a lot to their special effects.

Even this year Guardians of the Galaxy is being branded as this whole new thing when it kinda just fall into all of these plot cliches and elements we're already used to. Also, anyone else getting kinda getting annoyed with every film now needing to have its main character being so much like Han Solo? They have honestly stoped being interesting, they're now just feeling like as***es to me.

Jaffa and Silver wrote Rise of the Planet of the Apes.

Friedman wrote The Sarah Connor Chronicles.

Salerno wrote ... well ... he's got a weaker track record.
Ok good.

That and Gravity.

I agree with you.

For me, people who pump up GoTG, etc. and then thumb their noses at Avatar, etc are equivalent to those who thumb their nose at McDonald's and then eat at Subway or Wendy's. It's a phoney snobbery and it doesn't enlighten.

Titanic is partly hated because for men of my generation it is perceived as a film for girls. Twelve year old girls fawned over Dicaprio and went to see it a lot. That doesn't mean it's bad, but our culture considers things for girls to be inferior things. It's why most chick flicks have awful RT scores. I was recently shocked to find out that "PS I Love You" has a 24% on rotten tomatoes.

I thought Titanic was hated for how historically wrong it is.how there were two ships that were swaped for war profitering and murder.
Maybe thats why James Cameron is making only AVATAR movies to tell postive stories that he wants to tell to the public.

hahaha. at least i'm getting noticed!

I just love how the insane success of Avatar really gets under the skin of people. It's almost hysterical. Even after five years, they constantly need to convince themselves that it wasn't as big as it's 3 billion box office, oscar nominations, critical acclaim and record breaking blu-ray sales would have you believe. Almost to the point of being delusional.

Absolutely.

I GUARANTEE you if Avatar had bombed instead of making three billion or whatever, everyone would be fawning over what an underappreciated masterpiece it is or something equally hyperbolic.

I hope and expect Cameron to bring his tech A game here. It's been a good bit of time since the 1st film so there should many more boundaries to be pushed.

Only Titanic historians and some film critics took umbrage with anything inaccurate. The film's old fashioned romantic core (and some would say it's corny equally old fashioned execution) is the usually quoted reason why some dislike it.

They do. It's called JOHN CARTER.

I wanted to love the film but I just didn't. I think it's an extremely well crafted spectacle but it's not something I love. Watching the film is more an experience of appreciation and respect than actual enjoyment for me.

I still enjoy the film, but I'd prefer a different lead actor. The fact that we are stuck with Sam for 3-4 more films doesn't make me all that excited.

Exactly. I had a good time watching it, but I have zero desire to ever see it again, let alone two or three sequels.

It's a pretty movie but why would I want to sit through 6-9+ more hours of...whatever the lead guy's name was that was played by the person Hollywood really wanted to be a big thing for some reason.

I will watch the sequels out of curiosity, hopefully Sam whatshisname has improved his acting since the first one.
