Jane gives update on Punisher 2

I wouldn't be surprised if LGF just dumped Punisher altogether.

House Of 1,000 Corpses got a sequel before The Punisher. House Of The f'n Dead also got a sequel before the Punisher. SAW is about to get a second sequel and it came out 6 months AFTER The Punisher. Hostel is getting a sequel. All these are Lionsgate franchises. Why is The Punisher the only one without a sequel? Because they don't want to make it.

WOW, How old are you? That's something a 3rd grader would say.

Besides, my daddy can beat up your daddy anyway.

Not only that but he is accusing me of things that I have no clue what he is talking about...lol.

Director will hopefully be confirmed before the end of the year. It's gonna go to someone with a 1st look deal at LGF so don't be shocked if Eli Roth is attached.

Roth is doing Hostel 2 and then after that he is doing Stephen Kings Cell, so he is NOT doing the Punisher. Why would he do an action movie when he mainly has done horror?

^ Because most directors like to do a variety of projects and the gory violence in Punisher is a nice bridge into another genre. If I was a director I'd want to expand on my skills because he might think horror is his niche until he tries something different where he might excel. It's just a thought that's all. The Running Scared director would make me happy as hell, as would David Hayter.

I hope they give the rights up but assuming they do make Punisher 2 I think the problem was the domestic box office sucked but to me you get what you put into it. Punisher 2 needed more of a budget. Give me a break it was a great film but done on the cheap. LGF is a low budget house and nothing more. A great Punihser can be made on a moderate budget but we're never going to see the best Punihser movie out there without better financing. Hell cutting out Travolta's paycheckand adding 10 million more to the budget would do wonders for the visuals and action. This isn't The Devil Wears Prada. These kind of films need juice to back up the story. The added animated scene sounds cool but it's hilarious they even have to do that. My dream would be for Marvel to get the rights back and keep Jane attached and have some fun with the characterand go all out. They don't need to spend 100 million to make it but 60 would be nice.

Eli Roth is already a part of a couple projects so thank god I think it is safe from him.

Wayne Kramer? I liked Running Scared except for Paul Walkers overacting ass. The Cooler was damn good too.

David Hayter I just have always been a fan of his since MGS. It would be awesome to see him take on Punisher 2.

And here is a director choice that I am not sure anyone has brought up. How about Jane himself??

They all got sequels because they are all beyond cheap to make, so even if it does $12 million it's a hit. The Punisher is low budget compared to Major Studio movies, but to Lionsgate it's a mega high budget at $30 million.:unishr:

Yep hit the nail right on the head. I guess Vileone likes to look things like that over to help his argument.

Hostel budget- 4.8 million
House of the Dead budget- 12 million
House of the Dead 2 budget- Straight to dvd
Saw budget- 1.2 million
Saw 2 budget- 4 million

Compared to these movies the Punisher had a ****ing huge budget at LGF...haha.

And over half of those movies still made more money in theatres than the Punisher did.

So why is LGF going to want to spend MORE money on a sequel to a movie that sputtered when they can keep paying for these cheapie sequels that are raking them in tons of money?

^ The only answer to that is Punisher does have a cult fanbase. If they made the right movie they'd go back and see it multiple times.

God you honestly just ignore the facts to help your arguments don't you? PUNISHER OPENED UP THE SAME DAY AGAINST A VERY ANTICIPATED SEQUEL THAT WAS AN ACTION/REVENGE TYPE MOVIE, KILL BILL VOLUME 2. They made the dumb move of having that opening day...was THEIR fault. They even came out at least Arad did and admitted it was a stupid move. Do you think Saw would have made as much if it opened the same day as the most anticipated horror sequel of the summer?? I think not. Had they had a better release date just for ONE then mark my words Punisher would have done MUCH better. I think the dvd sales are proof enough of that.

And I am actually hoping LGF lets Marvel have the Punisher because they treated the character like ****. Had they just given Hensleigh the time, the money and the release date needed we wouldn't be in this ****ing situation.

Nope. Nobody knows what the hell is going on. Everyone is just looking at each other oddly and slightly shrugging.

^Still no real news about P2, thats a shame, its a sequel i really want to see happen.

Lionsgate didn't make the Punisher. Artisan had it in the can when Lionsgate bought out Artisan. So LGF didn't lose any money and gained a bunch when the DVD hit big. I think LGF is worried though about investing a huge sum of money for a sequel that didn't do well in the box office. They are the low budget horror or art house types. Maybe they can not finance their straight to DVD horror movies for a year and take the money they would have spent on those craptastic movies and put it into a movie that can actually get into theaters and then make a huge impact on DVD.

Makes you wonder. Why should the star be giving updates on the movie? Why aren't the the studio and producers feeding the trades with official info? They should say who's doing the script.

Well Tom Jane said around the time of The Punisher that he would still want the sequel to be low budget, no more than $40 million i think he said in Total Film, as that gives them more freedom to take risks.

Yeah, but for Lionsgate $40 million is a butt load of money. Most of there movies have budgets less than $10 million.

Is there some petition we could sign? Free market research never hurt anyone, and we can show that there's interest. Punisher 2, dammit!

No it wouldn't have made as much but still a good profit with the budget it had.

A Punisher sequel is going to cost about twice or 3 times as much as your average SAW film and make less than half the money. Once again, LGF is simply prioritizing. Punisher is not a high priority to them.

Great DVD sales, so what? It's clear that the DVD sales haven't gotten a sequel made any quicker like the fans hopefully thought it would.

So here we are, over 2 and a half years later, and no Punisher sequel in sight.

And I am actually hoping LGF lets Marvel have the Punisher because they treated the character like ****. Had they just given Hensleigh the time, the money and the release date needed we wouldn't be in this ****ing situation.

Go ahead and blame the studio since that's the easy thing to do. You think Hensleigh is the only director that's had to work with limitations? Cause he isn't.

I feel the one that treated the character like crap was Hensleigh, not LGF.

I like how you completely ignore good points I bring up and just comment on the ones you can Vile. Die.
