Jason Bourne

I love how the crew member is stooping down and holding the actor from falling, lol! :D

Looking forward to hearing a seeing more. Really thought this was a movie we wouldn't get at one point.

Matt Damon on Jason Bourne: 'We find him in a dark and tortured place'
BY WILL ROBINSON, NINA TERRERO

There has been a CIA level of secrecy around the fifth installment in the Jason Bourne film franchise. But Matt Damon is offering a glimpse into the world of Bourne 5 — and it’s a world that’s not dissimilar to our own.

“There’s been the financial collapse, the great recession, all these issues of cyberwarfare and civil liberties,” star and producer Damon tells EW for this week’s First Look issue.

The tumultuous present serves as the backdrop for this story, in which Bourne resumes his quest for answers about his past. “We find him in a dark and tortured place,” says the actor, who agreed to resurrect his superspy for returning director Paul Greengrass. (Neither was involved in the 2012 spin-off,The Bourne Legacy, starring Jeremy Renner.)

Damon previously revealed that the fifth film in the series, based on the novels by Robert Ludlum, will pick up 12 years after Bourne’s disappearance in The Bourne Ultimatum (2007), which was set in 2004.

The series also adds Ex Machina breakout Alicia Vikander, playing a cyberspecialist; Oscar winner Tommy Lee Jones, who plays a hardened CIA agent; and Vincent Cassel (Black Swan). Julia Stiles is also returning.

Bourne 5 is due in theaters July 29.

LOL. It will take time for me to adjust seeing the lighthearted and jokey Bourne as dark and tortured.:oldrazz:

I really hope they bring back John Powell. I love the score for the Bourne Trilogy.

That's kinda sad actually.

I mean there was a part of me that was sort of happy for the character after Ultimatum as it seemed like he could finally get his life back on track but for drama purposes it makes sense.

Vikander is getting all the roles, and I'm not one bit mad at that.

But what really has he left unfinished? That ending seemed to make it pretty clear he solved what needed to be solved. That ending was just so damn perfect I'm afraid they're gonna ruin it.

Yeah that was sort of my earlier point.

I could see maybe him living a regular life but then getting pulled back by some event. But from the description it sounds like he's been living a pretty unfulfilled miserableness life since those events.

Which does sort of hurt that films ending and wrap up to that chapter of his life.

It just seems like "Bourne made money so we need an excuse to pull him back in again" type of deal where I'm sure it will be acceptable just to get into the story, but right now I'm not feeling the justification. Just leave it alone.

Well all that was basically undone in the fourth movie...

As much as we all want to forget Legacy, I find it hard to believe they'd ignore the fact that one of Bourne's biggest allies got framed at the end of it. That will almost certainly be a factor here, imo.

I guess that was their sequel hook for the Aaron Cross garbage, but ****. Ultimatum was this great energetic spy film that ended with all this great energy. It was an awesome ending.

And then this garbage sequel/spin-off comes along and just unravels all of it in one fell swoop.

I was waiting for Bourne to call Cross to say, "You're a ****ing pretender. You ruined everything. I'm coming to clean up your mess."

I never saw Legacy. I guess if that already kind of broke the end of the third movie, then a fifth film with Bourne actually coming back is already too late to complain about so I might as well go with it... if Legacy is what it actually is? Again, haven't seen it.

At the end of Legacy, Pam Landy is arrested for treason. I doubt they'll just pretend that didn't happen.

Yeah, Legacy shows the deeper CIA conspiracy managing to duck the Landy-Bourne attack with some of the blame successfully landing on Landy. And it's outcome is mostly the successful escape of their new protagonist and his love interest; it's an incredibly open ended movie otherwise.

They could use one or two quick lines to suggest that Landy got out of it and some of CIA guys got taken down with her, but some of old infrastructure still survives. I've been thinking it'd be cool to see one side of the black ops in the government trying to police the elements that created Bourne; like, we find out that Treadstone and Blackbriar were run out of Analysis, so the guys in Operations are alarmed and ticked at being outflanked by desk jockeys, or the other way around.

The implication at the end of Legacy is that all the conspirators Bourne exposed in Ultimatum got away clean. The CIA director played by Scott Glenn and Noah Vosen played by David Strathairn. Landy is made out to be a patsy and the CIA manipulates the dialogue in the media that it was her fault. So basically, Landy and Bourne are Snowden, and the public and government don't give a crap about any civil liberty or federal violations.

It was a horrible ending.

The script didn't write a good character. No one cared about Cross. He was a pretender, not the genuine article.

I was about to ask what fourth movie. I honest to god forgot it existed. :funny:

I only really had just one problem with Legacy . . . the impossible car/motorbike chase in the Philippines!
