Jason Bourne

So, the reviews are in and it seems the consensus is its good but not as good as the original trilogy. A lot of rave seems to be about the 15 minute car chase. I'm excited for that. But me, personally, I'm a hand to hand combat guy. I REALLY hope we get at least one kick ass fight scene like in Supremacy and Ultimatum. Those were some badass brawls.

I liked how one reviewer said it's like Spectre without the good parts. lol

I was hoping it would be more like Mad Max Fury Road in why the reviews came in late, but I can't say I'm surprised since it's not like they excitedly came back (came back because of the number of times they were asked to). Does it say if Damon seems bored throughout? Hopefully not. But, one of my fears now - came back out of being asked to multiple times and already looking for them to re-cast the role.

That's not how I understand it. Damon has always been game to reprise the role, he just wanted to do it only if Greengrass was doing it too. I don't think this is just paycheck to them, Damon has an affinity to the character.

I love chase scenes, but I really hope we get to see Bourne fight again.

For a guy hyped to reprise it, the majority of news surrounding him has been "find a new Bourne, re-cast the role." That's basically the opposite of a Hugh Jackman affinity for the character approach. I can see him loving having been Bourne, but also wanting to move on as well - if it was wanting to continue for a while after this film, there wouldn't be re-cast talk started by Damon upon just coming back. It's not really a common thing for someone to come back for a reunion and turn the news into "re-cast me."

So, do we know if he gave this performance his all? Hoping, but as said, the "re-cast" me talks has me unsure which way that would/could go.

I think there's a big throwdown between Bourne and Vincent Cassel's character. Can't say I care about the reviews. I've been anticipating Bourne's return too much and I think more of the same is fine with me.

Me too, I'm sure I'm going to love it. After 10 years, it'll just feel good to have Damon back under Greengrass' frenetic directional style. More of the same is fine with me as long as I'm thoroughly entertained throughout.

But I will say, I don't want this to be the start of a new trilogy, I'm perfectly happy for this to be the final Damon Bourne film. Just give me some finality and end on a good note.

So is this looking to be yet another disappointing and unnecessary sequel?

Watched the original trilogy many years ago, but i barely anything of what happened in Supremacy in Ultimatum. Wasn't the plot pretty much the same in all the three films? It's always Bourne being followed by the government, striking back at those who were pursuing him and then going into hiding again.

More or less... the trilogy ends where the first book ends, Jason confronting Treadstone in New York. Supremecy has the same concept, Jason trying to find an assassin who has killed using his name, but the second and third movies are not as close to the book as the first (minus the third act).

Not unnecessary, as they kinda need closure after Renner.

I'd say when it comes to these things, pretend Legacy doesn't exist. It seems to have been forgotten by now. Ultimatum was a very satisfying close to it and people are smart enough to just look to that.

I got Legacy as a Christmas present on BR, years ago...and still haven't been able to bring myself to watch it :/

So two scenes?

As for the Bourne series, the plot isn't important so much as character. The Bourne series charts an amazing character trajectory for the titular character throughout the three films.

The first one was about slowly peeling back who he was and the shady institution he worked for. The second one was about redemption. Him going back on a past massacre and atoning for it to the lone survivor. The third one was about blowing the lid off on this monstrous institution that made him and unmaking himself. It's an amazing character journey rivaled only by Nolan's Batman trilogy.

Yeah I agree 100% on that. Watching them all together yesterday made that even more obvious. I love Bourne's journey. I love how the little light in his eye during Identity with Marie is completely gone by Ultimatum.

It's the biggest reason why Bourne Legacy was a fail to me, because Aaron Cross as a character was a fail.

63% so far on RT, sigh, it seems like 2016 is deliberately going out of its way to be one major let down of a year overall.

I guess following up such a tight and well constructed original trilogy was always going to be a tough ask.

I think that potentially doing much of the same stuff that FOUR previous movies (yes, even Legacy touched on this stuff as well) might not have been a great idea either.

Which is why I am weary of this film. The trilogy wrapped the character's arc so perfectly, meaningfully and poetically. How can they make another one without it feeling superfluous. It seems the reviews are confirming my suspicions.

Lol yeah I saw that one earlier and thought: "That's like the meanest thing you can say about a spy movie"

2016 has just been so lackluster as a year. That goes for film and everything.

Deadpool, Zootopia, Jungle Book, Civil War, Finding Dory, The Conjuring 2, Love and Friendship, and Star Trek. It has been okay. Hopefully Suicide Squad and Kubo are good.

The May-July season has been very drab.

Ive only really enjoyed 2 films so far this summer and maybe 4-5 films overall this year overall. Everything else has just been okay, fine or disappointing

Hope it picks up for me

Don't panic, guys. The critics aren't saying its a bad movie, it just apparently doesn't rise above Ultimatum. I can't imagine this still won't be a damn good time with Damon and Greengrass at the helm, John Powell scoring, and apparently an absolutely bananas finale set piece.
