Even though Stane and the Mandarin are in this film together, it would appear that the Mandarin will be the lone villain. Stane will most likely just be a close business associate of Stark's and I'm guessing in the 2nd film he will turn on and betray Stark and his plans will be revealed.

Bridges' Iron Man Role

March 9, 2007 - IGN attended a special press event Thursday night on the Sony lot for their forthcoming CG-animated feature Surf's Up, which boasts Jeff Bridges among its voice cast members.

During a one-on-one video interview with Bridges, the veteran actor advised IGN that he will play Obadiah Stane in the Iron Man movie!

Bridges' head was shaved bald and he was sporting a silver goatee for the role, and was also considerably slimmer than he had been in his last few films.

Bridges said that Stane is the mentor of Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) in the film. When pressed if Stane was also the villain of the tale, the Big Lebowski thesp became coy and told us that we'd have to wait and see.

MarvelDirectory.com reminds us that, in the comics, Obadiah Stane "attempted to form an organization of European and Oriental industrialists, led by himself, that would act in defiance of antitrust laws, and even attempt to usurp power from the leaders of certain nations. (Tony Stark) opposed Stane's efforts to form such an organization. Stane had been seeking for a worthy opponent against whom to compete in a new 'game' of business maneuvers, and decided that Stark was the man he sought. Stane also knew Stark's principal weakness: Stark was a reformed alcoholic. At this point Stane had not yet realized that Anthony Stark was secretly the costumed champion Iron Man."

Stane soon wrested control of Stark International from Tony, who would later recover from his alcoholism and regain control of his company. Stane later stole a notebook of Tony's and, using his designs, had his scientists built a suit of battle armor, which he donned as the supervillain Iron Monger.

Favreau's haircut comment from the other day hinted at this. With that said, it should be interesting to see what Bridges does with the role. I don't expect to see the Iron Monger in this film. I think we'll only see Stane as a business associate who is working with the Mandarin which will be revealed near the end of this film, setting for the sequel with Stane as the primary villain.

Watch they wont' reveal who the Mandarin is even at the end of the film. LOL The ads for the 2nd film will show all the characters faces and say "Who is The Mandarin". I'd LMAO. All kidding aside I like how Jon is handling this film.

$10 says we get the Iron Monger besting War Machine in the second movie, and the final climactic battle in the third belongs to the Iron Man and the Monger. With other baddies thrown in the mix.

I think we'll get all of that in the second movie.

Well...For starters, I knew he couldn't possibly be playing Mandarin. Especially after the hint Favreau gave about Bridges. So it's definitely intriguing that he's playing Stane. Even more the fact that we may also be getting Iron Monger. Most likely for the sequel. Though there is a chance he'll don the armor in the first film.
