Jeffrey Wright IS Commissioner Gordon

Billy Dee Williams. Harvey Dent.

So go back and look at the history of the last 30 years of comic book movies. Hollywood will race and gender flip the supporting characters, but not the main ones. It's been an ongoing thing for decades.

Kerry Washington as Alicia Masters in Fantastic Four.

Delroy Lindo as Ben Urich.

Carrie-Anne Moss as Jeryn Hogarth.

Robert Pattinson is Batman now.

Geoffrey Wright is Gordon.

That's it. Get over it.
Who’s Geoffrey Wright?

When did Delroy Lindo play Ben Urich?

It's a crying shame that this will the first time Gordon won't be played by a ginger. A tragedy.

Other than fan4stic, I haven't seen anyone really criticize every single casting decision.
I don't see why it as a strong issue for me.

Billy Dee Williams for Dent is something I can lean into. Personally I'm more flexible with Dent casting.

For me, I go for a case by case basis.

Gordon is a case I'm not for.

Why should I like Pattinson for Bruce? I don't like the look of his face. Should I force myself to like it?

I think I lean the side that I don't care about Jim's hair color being red or not. Maybe I lean more on preferring Jimmy Olsen to have red hair. Barbara Gordon I think is more tied to look of the character. Similar for Ariel and Mary Jane.

I understand wanting iconic elements of the character to remain intact, but Gordon being a redhead hasn't even always been a thing.

But if you look at the history, generally the main actors in these franchises are generally, with some exceptions, not gender or race flipped. It's usually the supporting cast members. And it goes all the way back to Batman with Billy Dee Williams. I'm sure there was significant expectation at the time that if the movies continued and kept going, Williams could portray Two-Face at some point. Instead, in the third movie, it was Tommy Lee Jones after both Batman and Harvey Dent/Two-Face had been recast, but other actors, like Michael Gough and Pat Hingle were kept on. But even though Batman was recast, he was not race-flipped.

For another comparison, look at James Bond franchise. M has been gender flipped. Felix Leiter has been race flipped multiple times. And Moneypenny has also been race flipped. James Bond has not, at least, not yet.

Studios for the most part generally avoid it for the main characters.

Any paparazzi photos of Jeffrey rocking the mustache yet?

Might just be looking it over for the general vibe of the film. If he was deliberately looking for Gordon stuff, I’d be shocked if no one told him to start at Year One and work from there.

Can't believe this will be the first Gordon without flowing hair of crimson fire.

Can't believe this will be the first Gordon without the beautiful strip of red patch we call his mustache.

I get that people are trying to be funny, but to be fair, when has Gordon ever been played by a ginger? Gary Oldman has brown hair, JK Simmons has gray hair, Pat Hingle had gray hair and the guy from '66 Batman had gray hair... who is this mythical ginger that has played Gordon? Did I miss someone?

Unless that was the point...

Would you guys like to see a suicidal/depressed Gordon ?

Someones who's on the edge of breaking down, desperate with everything wrong in this town so that he turns to the Bat because it's the only thing that makes sense for him?

He's just thinking : What could be worse?

Or do you want him to be a good cop who always tries to do what's best under any circumstances? Like he has a lot of energy and wants to do good on his own too.

Would be nice to see Gordon kick some ass at some point.

Even going beyond that, I think the red hair was a recent invention in the comics when we finally saw a young Gordon for the first time in Year One. Going back to Detective Comics #27, Gordon pretty much had white/grey hair in the comics and was always portrayed as being older. I wonder if Miller, Mazzucchelli, and Klein introduced the red hair as as a nod to Babs. Anyone know?

Honestly it's kinda weird how Hollywood keeps race flipping gingers. Although most people don't even know that Gordon is a ginger :hehe:

Tired and world-weary, run-down, knows he's mostly alone in a corrupt/apathetic/ineffectual system, but always tries to do the best he can, no matter the circumstances.

I would like to see him kick some ass at some point, like how Year One Gordon is a war veteran and kicks Flass' ass at one point.

Pretty much how I see him too!

Even if it will be mainly in Batman POV, it would be nice to have Gordon’s point of view too

I'd like to get a Gordon role similar to Year One where it cuts back and forth between Bruce/Batman and Gordon's POV, but Reeves sounds like this will be pretty Bruce/Batman-centric.

I'm not interested at all on Gordon's PoV. I'd prefer the movie to stay entirely from Batman's side.

Yeah I know it's sure would be great, but seeing scene of Gordon alone, going home late at night with his wife asleep, wondering if he should move out of the city for the sake of the baby who's coming or already there.

Plus Batman may be our POV of a more heroic side but Gordon would be the down to earth/ human which we can all relate to, he's no ninja or superhero, he's just a man trying to do what's right with what he have.

I don't know, I'm really wondering how that POV will play out. In Se7en there are two characters which we follow and it still is pretty personal, we just see two sides of the same coin.

Don't know if this interview is recent (probably) but it may show that Gordon will done the beard instead of the mustache.

It also seems his mustache is bigger than the rest so I may be wrong.

Personally I don't mind one way or the other.
