Jeffrey Wright IS Commissioner Gordon

I hope Wright's Gordon is a bit more of a hardass than we've seen before. I liked Oldman's portrayal but he always seemed a bit too timid a riddled with guilt. It was still really good but I'd like to see a more confident, take-no-s*** Gordon. I guess that's what Snyder was going for with Simmons but we barely saw him.

I’d like that too. I’d like the kind of Gordon who could give Flass a beatdown like Year One.

Wright's Gordon physically restraining, probably calming Batman down is a good indication of that.

Wright has this calming presence about him all the time. I just feel immediately relaxed when he pops up in a scene. Even when he’s visibly dealing with ****, he’s quite subtle compared to Oldman (who I adore but comes from the Pacino class of acting).

First off, Oldman does believe in going big and larger than life for that cinematic magic, but he can be incredibly subtle, see Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy.

Second, such largeness of performance is only really reflective of late Pacino. Pacino is incredibly subtle and measured in his earlier performances, such as Michael Corleone in The Godfather and Part II. I mean the studio wanted Coppola to fire him because they thought he was too quiet and subtle.

I loved Garry Oldman as Gordon in the Nolan trilogy, but I wouldn't be surprised at all if Jeffrey Wright surpassed him as my new favorite. It's such perfect casting and I can't wait to see this movie explore the more corrupt aspects of Gotham PD that Matt Reeves was talking about at Fandome.

I get the feeling we are going to get a very different kind of Gordon and hopefully we get to see him evolve more and more into a badass after each film in this new trilogy.

Never said Oldman can’t be subtle. I said Wright is more subtle than Oldman.

Same thing with Pacino. I’m well aware of his early work. But the majority of Pacino’s career has been about larger than life performances. It’s what he’s known for.

That's honestly the impression I got after hearing him in the trailer .

"Any of this... MEAN anything.. to you ?" Kinda this sarcastic/challenging tone there

Anyone else remember Wright as an over the top flamboyant Dominican drug lord in Shaft?

Kind of the opposite of the calm low key roles most people associate him with.

That jail scene between him and Bale is a humorous look at Gordon and Bruce before they turned their lives around. :funny:

i don't think i ever heard wright's real speaking voice until i watched that podcast interview he did recently where he talked bout the batman.

Shaft is so close to being awesome because of SLJ, Bale and Wright despite the film itself being pretty goddamn terrible.

The bar is very high but I’m certainly very optimistic for Wright and that trailer was a great intro to what we might get from him.

Oh yea, Jackson is the epitome of cool and badassery and Wright and Bale are such fun bad guys, they’re all in search of an actual movie instead of the sort of half baked mediocre mess they’re in. Toni Collette was good too for what her role was.

Jeffrey was one of the presenters on CNN Heroes last night rocking the Gordon 'stache, and just seeing him kind of got me more pumped to see him as Gordon. Even just doing a shoutout as a presenter IRL, he has an awesome authoritative voice and presence.
