JL Casting Call Update

Armie Hammer not Batman...but a villain??

I was just talking with a friend out in LA and he thought I would have heard this by now, but he said Armie Hammer was looked at for a villain and not Batman. Now, this is news that I'm surprised I haven't caught wind of yet.

I'll try and confirm as soon as I can....

interesting. maybe the casting wont be as bad as we had first thought.
We need some da*n news already. :woot:

A couple of things:

1. If the studio is demanding recasts then this means they don't Miller's judgement. And if that's the case then why did they hire him in the first place?

2. If they are recasting, then I would assume it would be to get more "quality" type actors in the roles. Now, what quality actor is going to sign onto this movie in this stage of the game with the not so great buzz surrounding it? The actor would probably think it's career suicide.
Emi has said that the rumored back up guy for Supes was their number 2 choice if they could not get welling. And the WB was planning to go with him. But the strike looked like it was going to be going on for a while in Nov., when they were going to announce cast, and the WB knew that the one guy they needed for Supes's TV show would have it's season cut before the start date of shooting, and that if they waited it out, they could get him as he would not be under the Smallville contract and free to do the movie. Which was the stumbling block when they tried to cast him before and when Robert first reported it. Even though the WB owns the show, Welling signed the contract with the gough and miller prouction company and so that contract stood as JLA was planning to shoot while they were shooting. However, now that the strike has lasted, he will be free as of next week.

Recast = New rumors! I love it. Bring them on! Hammer not Batman, Welling looking more and more like it a lock, A third villain in the mix, and what am I leaving out today? Oh yes! This thing is suppose to start filming in 32 days :). Unless, of course you buy into the rumor of the delay, then it's wide open.

Anyone still talking to the hotel contact? I wonder who's been seen around the pool this week down under? Well, like it was said before in a post above if this strike means that better actors are getting freed up. Then by all means take them this rumored cast had no where to go but up. Still! I was really looking forward to Hammer as Batman for some reason. ;)
Second unit has already started filming.

Yea but her post says recasts. So there is more than one involved here. So at least one of Miller's choices, outside of Superman, was not liked by the studio if this is the case. Which shows WB does not have faith in Miller.

Biel was never quoted as giving a reason as to why she did not accept the role, you're just assuming

Anyway, one of the sticking points in the Biel negotiations was supposedly a guarantee, or lack thereof, that she'd star in a Wonder Woman spinoff. Now, as Comics2Film points out, Robinov's comments would seem to indicate that Warners has given up on the project entirely -- or, at the very least, that women need not apply for the starring role."

EW, which recently reported that Jessica Biel was no longer in the running to play Wonder Woman, now claims "Biel is in early talks to play Wonder Woman in League, but as with (Batman star Bale and Superman star Brandon Routh), the studio might be wary of a crossover; one source says that her contract is unlikely to guarantee that she'd be the star of any future Wonder Woman feature." IGN contacted Biel's reps at CAA today who advised us that she is no longer in talks for JLA.

There may be another -- and nastier -- reason why a Wonder Woman spin-off film might be questionable now. According to DeadlineHollywoodDaily.com, Warner Bros. president of production Jeff Robinov recently decreed, "We are no longer doing movies with women in the lead." This is reportedly in response to the lackluster performance of two recent female-driven Warners releases, The Invasion and The Brave One.

As Comics2Film.com points out, "such a mandate would spell doom for the long-in-development Wonder Woman movie. It's inconceivable that a studio would dismiss the opportunity to make use of one of the few remaining iconic superhero characters yet to be adapted for modern movie-goes, but if Robinov's decree is real, then (Warners) may do just that."

this at least puts a question mark in the rumor that Biel opted out because the script was so poor.

Hammer is not Batman because Welling has been cast in that role. :o

Second unit has already started filming.

Really? Link?

Until we have a quote from Biel or her rep, we don't know the reason why she turned the role. We can speculate but that doesn't make it fact.

which means we don't know she turned it done because the script was crap like the haters like to portray.

I think they were casting on a deadline and I think now that they think they can get one person they are going to get others. This is no different for any comic book movie. The studio has to approve the actor no matter who the director is. Routh had to be approved. Reeve had to be approved. If the studio doesn't approve them, it is back to the casting board for the director. Think of the director as just a project manager who is overseen by other various managers in the coporation. Marty McFly was recast while they were shooting the movie and already had shot with ERic Stoltz.

Pshhh. Singer had free reign and total autonomy on that movie and it showed. :down

I'll try to find it but Emi and a few other people have stated that second unit has already started. Which would be realistic. When the studio releases a start to shooting date, that is the start date for the main unit and main actors. second unit usually starts shooting way before hand. Them shooting right now would fall into line with the Feb start date.

Her acting is poor, I'm glad she wasn't signed. When are they going to stop trying to hire pinups and start hiring people who can act?

As if Beil knows the difference between a good or a bad script. :whatever:

How do you know that?
Because if first unit starts next month, even if it was recently delayed, second unit would be shot now. And a few people working on the film have leaked that sets are being built and second unit already started.

Not necessarily. Sometimes second unit starts halfway through the shooting and goes on after the first unit stops.
Visual FX plates are usually shot early.

I think a lot of people keep forgetting that Joel Silver (or whatever his name is) owns the rights to do WW solo movies, and he has been dragging out the process in allowing a film to come out (various scripts have been done, including one by Whedon). He spoke out (so sorry I'm too tired to google this) a few months back about the JL movie essentially saying he'd consider how it turned out in terms of whether he'd spinoff the character or not based on the JL version.

Biel, if I'm not mistaken, wanted to do solo WW films. It wouldn't surprise me to hear that she chose not to do this film because they couldn't guarantee her the solo franchise. Either way, I'm sure the Joel Silver issue was a roadblock in that. I doubt it had to do with a bad script.

^ Joel Silver owning the WW rights is another reason why I'm convinced JL wont have spin-offs.

Very interesting :

i have some connection in the french film industry and word is that Dominque Pinon had an offer to play a vilain in the Justice league.

Could he play Lord as an Adult and Baruchel him younger?

Thanks to THE french screnwriter :D ;)

But she never said, other than Superman, why the other part was recast. For all we know, Gale is pregnant and so they had to recast WW. :woot: And no, Gale is not pregnant (that I know of). Just saying that if today has taught us anything, it is that we all know nothing.
