I would think it would be subtle. He can't walk around normal, I mean he had alot of facial damage falling into acid, I'm sure his face didn't hold together. As long as it looks natural though, not like Jack in '89.

Some pictures.

Which actor do you see in these pictures?

All three remind me of Eccleston to some extent.

Actually, the first one with Joker holding the gun reminds me of Hulme.

Doesn't it?

after viewing all the classic drawings and renderings of The Clown prince of Crime...and seeing manips.....i am convinced that these fine actors should be the ones to portray the Joker.

Paul Bettany
Christopher Eccleston
Johnny Depp
and the unkown Lachy Hulme

at this point....i don't anyone should be considered.....and i know we haven't heard of Eccleston being in the running.....but how can Nolan and the producers ignore his physical attributes, look, acting ability? Plus the manips of him as Joker in here and t JokerOnFilm....are freakin amazing!

Jokeronfilm? Is there such a place? Thats cool if there is. Oh wait, thats pie-eye's place...nevermind.

I don't see anyone actor in those pictures to be honest, no one looks like The Joker in actually. I just like Hulme casue he is unknown, can act, looks crazy when he wants, and his face isn't that bad for the role. I would say Eccelstone probably most looks like Joker but I, and I don't know why, don't want to see him as Joker, though I could live with it if it did happen, more so then Bettany anyway. At this point any of the 3 will work for me and I hope it's with in those three or it's some up and comer who has never been in a thing but looks like Joker and can act his ass off, ala Brandon Routh kinda.

Because I haven't in a while, and because I'm bored, I'm gonna go ahead and list a top 5.

5. Matthew Lillard (Scream)
Yeah, I know what you're thinking. Primarily, the guy has done stupid comedies. However, Lillard is a much better actor than he's given credit for. He carried the underrated SLC Punk!, saved Wicker Park from being a total waste of time, and played a convincing whacko in Scream. He was classically trained and really puts his everything into whatever role he takes. He's tall, lanky, creepy, has an evil smile, and is the right age.. Despite the fact he was Shaggy in Scooby Doo, Lillard should be given a look in regard to the role.

4. Johnny Depp (Secret Window)
Depp owns whatever role he's given. I have no doubt he'd be an absolutely fantastic Joker. He's a dream for about any role out there. However, somehow, I just don't see it happening. I'd love to see him in the role, but something tells me he won't be involved in this franchise.

3. Paul Bettany (Gangster #1)
Bettany is just a good actor, and he's being seriously discussed for the role. Out of the supposed candidates, he is my favorite. I've never seen him turn in a bad performance. If he could be crazy and evil while convincingly dropping his accent, I could certainly see him doing well in the part.

2. Jason Lee (Dogma)
Yeah, that's right, Earl. Jason Lee is a very talented actor / comedian who is always fun to watch. His turn in Dogma is a nice combination of comedy and evil. Under Nolan's direction, he could dial up the creepy and play an excellent Joker.

1. Tim Roth (Planet of the Apes)
Tim Roth may be the best character actor working right now. He always disappears into whatever role he has. The man has manic energy, charisma, a talent for voices.. The only problem is his age. Roth will be 45/46 when the sequels are filming. That may be a little old, but his skill as an actor totally make up for it.

Honorable Mention - Lachy Hulme (The Matrix Revolutions)
I've barely seen this guy act. I have Enter the Matrix, in which he plays the role of a deadpan operator.. Other than that, Hulme is a complete unknown to me. If Nolan supports him, though, so do I. I feel awkward putting him in my top 5, though, since I've never seen him in anything that would make me believe he could pull it off.

Wouldn't it be interesting...? - Dane Cook (Waiting)
Dane Cook is one of the wildest, craziest, most off-the-wall stand-up comedians in the business. He's young, tall, lanky, crazy, and has quite a fan following. Often, comedians are excellent dramatic actors, and I'd love to see Dane given a crack at this kind of role. I think his energy alone should earn him a screen test to see how he could handle playing the Joker. However, since he's never had such a role, I don't know if he could pull it off. It would be interesting, though.

Hulme is in that awful filme Crocodile Hunter as an FBI agent lol. But I still know he can act.

My top pick for the role would be Johnny Depp, he is an amazing actor that just becomes whatever role he plays, would be my dream choice.
But i'm not too confiedent that Nolan will choose Depp, i'd say Hulme will get the role.

You know, I hadn't thought of him, but he would make a good Joker.

He could hit the Joker from all angles. He's tall, he's lanky, he's funny, (which is one element of Joker that I don't think some of the rumored contenders can do), yet he can be serious. He has a certaiin playfulness that would work well as the Clown Prince of Crime. I may have a new favorite.

Great casting suggestion, Brian2887!

This thread just keeps repeating itself a milion times over lol. Lillard is not original and has been frought up before, there is an old manip of him as Riddler that looks pretty cool though.

Andy Serkis used to be mentioned as well a LONG time ago and now he is actually in "The Prestige" with Bale and Nolan....so who knows. Myu bet is on one of the three though, Hulme/Bettany/Eccelstone.

Oh, and Bowie is like a hundred years old now, too old for Joker IMO.

Out of the names mentioned for The Joker, I like Bettany and Glover.

However, if Depp were to land the role, I wouldnt have a problem with that either. He's an exceptional actor, and would likely be great. Although I do prefer Bettany of Glover over him.

No. Just no. I cant come up with the words to describe how little I like this guy, and how upset i'd be if he was The Joker.

Hugh Laurie is an interesting choice. Could he pull off The Joker? Probably. But I'm saying no to him because he is easily my top choice for The Riddler.
