Jett clarified over at the BOF forums that he meant the skin would be more "natural" looking. Though the origin of how he got that pasty white skin is still left unanswered.
I'm going to take a guess that Joker, from the accident, was left completely white, including body hair. Something snaps in his head, and he takes up the image of a Joker card (theatricality comes into play here, just like Batman) by dying his hair and putting on lipstick. Probably something along those lines is what Nolan is going for. But personally, I'd prefer if his whole origin was left unsaid.
Me too. As for looks, I hope it's the traditional green hair and white skin. I'd like it too look a little different from Nicholson's though, maybe with the hair being black with green highlights (like
B:TAS), and maybe a dark, kind of grayish white.
Anyway, since I'm nored, I'd like to post my update for my ever changing top five choices.
5. Sean Penn
He has yet to show his potential to play a truly sick and demented character like The Joker, but since Penn has already proven himself to be such a great actor, there's no doubt in my mind he can pull off The Joker. There's only one qualm I have with casting him, and that's what puts him at the bottom of my list: Sean Penn would never do a comic book movie. Still, I think he'd be an amazing Joker.
4. Paul Bettany
I have, to date, only seen Bettany in one movie (
Master & Commander), and I was initially against casting him for the part. However, the more pictures I see of him, including some excellent manips, the more I think Bettany could really pull off an excellent Joker. His roles in
Firewall and
The Da Vinci Code should make him more well known, and prove that he could do a good villian. Plus, he definitely has the eyes. He's not my top choice, but I wouldn't mind Bettany at all.
3. Adrien Brody
For a short while, Brody was actually my top pick. He has since fallen a bit, but I still think he'd be an awesome Joker. He's a great actor he's one of the few actors who has The Joker's long chin and nose, and he's an Oscar winner. But most importantly, he's actually expressed interest in doing the role. My only qualm is that he's yet to show us that he can convincingly pull off an over the top lunatic like The Joker. He proved that he can do quiet creepy in
The Village, but he has yet to show us he can do lively and energetic creepy. That being said, there's no doubt in my mind that he could do the part.
2. Tim Roth
Man, could he do this part. For the longest time, Roth was my top choice, unil my head told me that it would be a safer bet to go with someone who's actually in the running. Roth is such an amazing actor, especially when it comes to playing villians. Only his good friend Gary Oldman (aka Jim Gordon) is better than Roth at playing villians. He's a bit old for the part (he's turning 45 this year), but he has far more than enough talent to pull off the role.
1. Johnny Depp
C'mon, he's the man. If there's one actor who can do just about everything, it's Johnny Depp. He proved in
Once Upon A Time In Mexico (and to a lesser extent,
Charlie & The Chocolate Factory) that he can do creepy, and his grin as Captain Jack Sparrow would look so awesome as The Joker. He would define The Joker for a new genration. In reality, Depp probably won't get it because he's too big a name, but the mere fact that he's rumored for the part makes him my top choice for the role.
