i think i got all angles of it lol

I just got this one too and it's very accurate- I cannot tell the difference.
It will go great in my Batman collection.

It is not a precision instrument, though, very roughly made. But the one for $999? That's not it, and it's obscene for a knife to cost that much.

I'll see if I can get some up, its pretty basic, just a spring and a couple other components.

So, if anyone has multiple ones, what is the best quality one? From which website, bladeplay ect?

That $999 looks nice, but that is a huge ripoff. Such a small OTF is NOT worth that much money unless theres a hidden button somewhere that shoots the blade completely out of the hilt at 200mph and plays 5 different high quality(selectable) recordings of the jokers laugh. I would pay 1000 bucks for it then. Even if it had the best construction and flawless working record, that one is not a 1000 dollar knife. That website is either just used to dealing with wealthy stupid knife enthusiasts or trying to bank off TDK.

So yeah, what is the best quality of the ones listed on here in regards to how smooth it works and construction ect ect?

A poor mans joker knife. only 5 bucks and has one of them retractable blades. just picked it up at a discount store, pretty awesome for what you need it for.

When I was doing my research for knife shopping, I found that unless you want the one with the serrated blade, the single-notch versions are pretty much all made by the same Chinese manufacturer...and they all look the same, too. The only difference I saw was the price gap between vendors...I've seen it for 20 bucks, and I've seen it for 80. Mine is a hefty knife, but has a "wobble" and rattle when the blade is fully extended, and that spring is a joke...it looks like a damn ball point pen spring in there. I was gonna replace it, but after sticking that freakingly-sharp point into my index finger, I said to hell with it. If you hold it pointing down when you open it, it works really well...but, it doesn't make the "shing" sound, and the edges are not sharp...just the very point. The clip is really tight, and the action smoother if you oil it lightly...maybe not 900 dollars worth of quality, but hell, it'll do the job....

Very true. I bought one for $40 and another for $70 and they are exactly the same. Oiling the blade and strengthening the spring inside will fix any functional improvements. They are pretty much sold out everywhere but I am planning on selling the one I got for $70 because more than one is too greedy. :cwink:

Let me know if anyone is interested.

So have we figured this out if the knife is legal in California?

I'm going down to TJ on Friday and if they have this knife down there I'm gonna pick it up, but need to know if its legal or illegal, dont want to have a hiccup bringing it back in the states.

its illegal, but who cares. ive had all sorts of illegal knives for 3 years now, never been caught.

The knife that Heath Ledger is not one of these cheap clones. They look like it, sure, but that's not the knife. Those are very poorly assembled, and the quality, sadly, is just not there as it should be in a quality knife. The actual knife that Ledger carries and uses in the film appears to be a Rob Dalton creation, not the fake Dalton Cupid everyone has been posting. It's a Cupid style knife, but the actual Cupid is not that cheap. The Dalton Knife is a very high quality knife, much like a Microtech, Spyderco handmade, David Dill, etc. Quality comes at a cost, but the high quality knives are worth it to me because of the fact that they last forever and gain in value. If you know where to buy at, you can get them much cheaper than the online prices, but you have to know someone in the business. I have one Dalton and several Microtechs along with 5 Spyderco handmades and about 30 production Spyderco's. I collect knives though.

Oh, and the knife isn't illegal because it's not a "switchblade" it is an automatic. Automatic knives are not illegal as switchblades are.

In all he carries the following:

Dalton Cupid OTF (It could be a Paragon ATKO though)

The others I recognized are:
Dalton Cupid Serrated OTF (it's 2 knives over from the Cupid/Paragon)
Microtech Troodon
Microtech Ultratech

None of which are cheap knives. One thing about the scene where he's holding it to Maggie's Mouth and the other guy's mouth, if he were that close he'd have cut them. Those knives are like razors. They most likely dulled the blade.

Seems that it isn't a Dalton now. Rob said it wasn't one of his knives, or at least not one he did.

We have been asked if we did this for
the movie ,no it does appear to be one
of the early release CUPIDS how it got
in the film i have no ideal. Also we will
not be going back to redo the cupid as
it has become the most knocked off
design in knife history

If anyone wants one of the serrated versions, I've got 4 I'm desperate to get rid of. Will sell them at cost. I ordered them thinking of selling them on e-Bay, but I did too nice of a listing so WB shut me down. Three times. :cmad: :csad:

They can make $158 million in 3 days and I can't make $20? Meanies! :oldrazz:

Automatic OTFs are classified as switchblades.

picked one up in TJ today for $20. I'm happy with my purchase, given the guy asked for $35 to begin with and I haggled.

I keep hearing the "but they're cheap knives" argument coming up in determining whether or not it's the right one, which shouldn't be a factor but nevertheless, can you really see a guy who actually burns money when he gets it and carries around pockets full of knives spending hundreds of bucks a pop? I really can't. I see the guy as the type who would rather have 50 $20 knives than one $1000 knife. I know the serrated OTF of which you speak is also available in a cheap clone version for maybe $10 more (although now it's cheaper because the non-serrated one is in higher demand). I'm not a knife expert but I have read every post in this thread and looked all over the internet for nearly a month trying to figure out which knife is the right one, and the general internet-wide consensus is the 1600 OTF cupid clone, and I think it makes sense. But, like I said, I'm not a knife expert, so I could very well be wrong, but a lot of people who ARE (or are at least self-proclaimed) knife experts say the same thing.

Of course good riddance if you want to find it for a reasonable price anymore, but there it is.

I agree with jigsawklr about the knife not being sharpened, as Hollywood's propensity for stunt safety is well-known; which, to me, only reinforces the argument that the knives used were cheap knock-offs to begin with...Dalton's comment also lends credibility to the clone argument. And besides...if I were the movie's property master, I wouldn't want the responsibility for keeping up with several $900+ knives, when I could buy 5 for 100 bucks and afford to lose them...:cwink:
