According to the story on the front page of Superhero Hype he's not into comics and his knowledge of superheroes is limited to the movies and cartoons.

It's funny seeing all the people on internet forums up in arms saying it's a bad decision.

Errr... he auditioned... and impressed Webb and the execs more than the other candidates which probably included fan favourites such as Logan Lerman... that's all that matters.

He might put in a great performance. That's to be seen, I guess. I'm not saying he's a bad actor or anything. His look, voice, and demeanor are just completely wrong for the character.

I'v liked him from the start for the role, even before his name came up as a possible candidate... I don't understand the hate for him.... but, to each their own, I guess

Haven't seen this guy in anything, so it wouldn't be fair for me to judge on that front.

In terms of looks, he definitely has a 1960's Peter Parker vibe going on in the face. But overall he looks a bit... chunky. Not fat, just husky. Like he is naturally disposed to a big build. I was kind of hoping for a skinny Spider-Man this time around.

Voice-wise, I think he works. Imagined his voice coming from Spidey's mask and I definitely see it, or hear it rather.

I guess if this turns out to be true, you'll have to put me in the "wait and see" group until we start getting pictures and footage. I have plenty of reservations as it is in regards to this project, so I won't write this guy off just yet. I still think Yelchin would've been perfect. As good as this guy could turn out to be, my stand on that will not change.

Lets see all of the people who were rumored to be cast as Spidey in this reboot. First they said Logan Lerman was definitely Spider-Man, then they said he wasn't, then he is again, then he's out (but now he was one of the finalists), then Jamie Bell IS Spider-Man, now Josh Hutcherson IS Spider-Man.

In regard to him knowing comics, I don't feel it is necessary for an actor in a role to know the character outside the script. They have to become the character as seen in the script. That is what matters. So, Tobey not knowing comics is a whatever to me, and this guy knowing them is not an advantage.

That said, I don't hate him for the role, but I don't love him. I think he is a good choice, could have been better, could have been worse.
