Judge Dredd Reboot!!

I personally don't care for 3D much either. At the same time, I can understand the studios' financial reasons behind it. If 3D is going to get more people in seats for "Dredd" and "Conan" than they would without 3D, I won't complain. For example, if "Scott Pilgrim", a critically well-recieved film, would have been in 3D, it would most likely have done better than it did at the b.o. I'm sure Scott Pilgrim fans wouldn't have minded.

crap...I hate Lionsgate's stuff. :/

They may have had a few turkeys but they'll forever be the ones who brought me American Psycho - so I'll give them the benefit of the doubt.

3D is crap

I'm of the opinion that crap 3D is crap to be honest. Good 3D can be great if used correctly but its the use of sub-par 3D which is causing this whole 'anti-3D' reaction that we're seeing at the moment imo.

yea No....I wear glasses so I am not going to go a theather and put 3d glasses over my regular glasses

Wait. that's the reason why you dislike 3D? Not for anything other than you have to put 3D glasses over your glasses?

:D

part of it...i just think its a gimmick that has been deemed legit because the almighty James Cameron used it

Oh, it's a gimmick for sure - if its exploited purely to make a bad/mediocre film seem more appealing. However, I'm of the mind that if it's used right on a good film it can be less of a gimmick and more of a viable enhancement. I mean, personally, I cant wait to see Tron: Legacy - even moreso when I think of the visuals the 3D is gonna give the computer world in the movie. And being Disney, its going to be top notch 3D too - not the nasty 3D that makes a person sick.

As I said, the problem for me lies with who uses it and how its applied.

Great that the distribution has been picked up, even if it's for the US. Still a bit iffy when it comes to it being in 3D but we'll see how it turns out.

Audiences are already wizening up to 3D though. It didn't really help Piranha and a bunch of other movies. Also Avatar.

John Wagner recently said the following regarding Dredd's uniform on Facebook: "(The filmmaker's) uniform was more paramilitary in style. I urged them to move it back towards the uniform we know and I think they took that on board, but I haven't seen the final version."

Paramilitary. I'm guessing Judge Dredd might be sporting a Solid Snake or Halo-type of look, while maintining certain classic elements like the elbow and kneepads, and the badge with the chain.

It can be a uniform but it still has to have that iconic look.. You don't want it to look like a uniform where it's generic.

^^^The main key is the helmet, just like Batman's cowl. If it looks 90% to 85% like it does in the comic, that's already a big step in look.

The second most important visual(s) are the shoulder emblems. Those are more than likely going to be a bit streamlined to adjust for more coherent movement(particularly the eagle one), but as long as the look what they're supposed to be, that's what will count.

After that it shouldn't be much of a hastle. I don't think it matters wether the bodysuit itself is leather like the X-Men and Daredevil suits or more synthetic like the "Dark Knight" and Solid Snake suits, as long as they function properly and fit the world the film takes place in.

What worries me about that is the fact that Wagner had to urge them to go with something more akin to the comics.

Well paramilitary sounds like the tone they want since this sounds like it will be a little more post-modern like District 9 than comic book fantasy.

Perhaps that is how they want to distance themselves from the Stallone movie. make it look more "realistic" and in line with the current military video game looks et al.

Who is the main villain of Dredd again? In the comics and in the movie.

^^^Well, in the movie it will be an original villain named MaMa. Now, in the comics, I suppose Judge Death is his "Joker"; his most popular one. Among his other notable rogues there is Rico, Chief-Judge Cal, The Angel Family, Captain Skank, War-Marshall Kazan, Chopper, the other 3 Dark Judges(aside from Judge Death), Call-Me-Kenneth robot, and Don Uggie Apelino.

I'm not that familiar with the Dredd franchise so when I think of a Judge Dredd villain the first one that pop in my mind is Judge Death, is probably because I'm remember vaguely that one of the issue I read long ago is in the arc "Necropolis". Other else besides that is Rico from the version with Stallone. Interesting that they're going for a original villain for the new movie.

Wouldn't that be betraying the comics? They always seemed to have a nihilistic punk attitude behind them. Which the Stallone movie seemed to just turn into a straight up serous business movie.
