Judge Dredd Reboot!!

^I think Marshall would be perfect, I loved the dark humour of Dog Soldiers, the darkness of The Descent, and the sci-fi elements he brought to Doomsday (though it was his worst film so far, yet I still liked it), combine all of these and you have a perfect Director for a Judge Dreed movie IMO.

^ how would you rate Doomsday (1 to 10)?

Its in my sig, I gave it 7.5, but its more like 7 now after repeat viewings.

Marshall or Norrington directing Adam Balwin would be perfect. Also, with this being with Fox Searchlight, I cant see the budget being huge, what was the budget for the first movie?

I believe it was $80 something million.

Also, regarding casting, I would very much like to see what James Purefoy does in the role of "Solomon Kane"(if it ever finds a distributor to get released), since like Dredd, Kane is also a cold fanatical pursuer of justice.

The budget for this one should be the same or even less then if you ask me. With a lesser budget they get more freedom and more chance of being successful. Though I suppose it depends on the cast also.

I wonder, when promoting the film, if they could use this: "From the creator of A History of Violence". And ofcourse, I'm refering to Judge Dredd creator John Wagner. This would also sort of help to deviate from the last film. Another thing that I wouldn't be too surprised if they did, in order to further deviate from the last film, is to simply call the film "Dredd". I could just see it happening. Who knows?

^I think they will keep the full title, but they NEED to market it as a re-boot, Marvel didnt do that with TIH, at least to the masses and that arguably hurt the BO performance of that movie.

I've been thinking, do you think Judge Dredd should have a first person narration? I think a good cinematic Judge Dredd story should have like a feel of Philip K. Dick meets Frank Miller(yes, yes, I know this name is pretty unpopular right now because of The Spirit, but I'm talking about the DKR, Ronin, and Sin City Frank Miller, and besides, I'm just suggesting a type of story, not him directing nor writing the thing, so don't panic)

Okay, that was terrible the helmet didnt even fit the guy! But the tone was cool.

Not sure really, I think if it is to borrow from anything, it should be Robocop, the tone, action, etc in that was what a Dredd movie should have IMO.

^ Like Robocop, Escape From New York, and Death Race 2000, it should have that "cynical" look at the future. With the character of Joe Dredd there should definately be a bit of that "Eastwood"-type of angst, like with Snake Plissken, Marv, Hartigan, and Batman in TDKR.

When I was in college one of my lectures always said Robocop is the movie Judge Dredd should have been.

 A mixture of all of these would be great, lets hope we get the dark movie, dark humour and all, we deserve this time.

He may have possibly been totally right.

except for the fact that Robocop is a very human character in the end, something Judge Dredd should NEVER be.

^Exactly. Dredd should have this kind of blunt, "black and white" narrow view of things. Almost like Rorschach from Watchmen and Steve Ditko's Mr. A.

Also, I recently watched The Hitcher remake for the first time. The thought of Sean Bean as Dredd is even more appealling to me now. I mean, when you do an interpretation of someone who is so "baaad" that it rivals Rutger Hauer, that says alot.

Sean Bean would be ok, but I would prefer Adam Baldwin, watching Firefly right now, he would be perfect.

This is something very slightly off-topic, but this a little thought I want to share. I remember the first time I saw Heavy Metal in late 1999. The film had ultra violence, humor, and outrageous characters, and I remember thinking how this might be an excellent way to do an animated Judge Dredd film. Or better yet, an animated 2000 A.D. film, with one segment of Judge Dredd, one of Rogue Trooper, one of Nemesis The Warlock, one of Slaine, one of D.R. & Quinch, and one of Stronium Dog. And Tharg would introduce each segment. So there, just a little thought.:yay:

I really hope Judge Death is in it and the other dark judges. Who could play Death ? Should he be CGI ?

Andy Serkis as Judge Death :D

Clint Eastwood as Judge Dredd :D

Doug Jones as Judge Death would be sweet; all the little creepy mannerisms and nuances he would embue the character with would be great.

Excellent choice, he would indeed be awesome as Judge Death, actually, come to think of it, Ron Perlman would be good as Judge Death also.

My thinking is that whoever plays Judge Death has gotta be long and skinny from the get-go.

Therefore, Jones as Death. Perlman as Dredd.

Like a mini Hellboy actors reunion.

;)
