June 2007 Solicitations

So I have to read BP to get my fix for F4 adventures? No, **** that! Marvel will NOT get me to read BP's stupid book just to find out what's goin on with Ben and Johnny.

Nova vs Thunderbolts....how is that even a fair fight? :D

New Warriors looks great......I  Sofia and I've missed her!

- The biggest surprise was Parker/Cruz's X-MEN: FIRST CLASS actually seemingly returning as an ongoing. It's not a groundbreaking title, but it's fun and light and I've enjoyed it more than I expected. Considering it usually only sells maybe 5-10 slots higher on the Top 100 than RUNAWAYS does, I wasn't expecting a return. Surprising.

- NOT surprised that yet another X-Men event seems to kick off with a death. I guess that is how they always are, but it gets old. It gets to the point that a lot of events could be written by a generator.

- NEW AVENGERS: THE INITIATIVE still looks good, although I'm not a fan of making villians into "anti-heroes" either; it drains the pool of good villians. Of course, Marvel has always lacked a "Suicide Squad" and, as has been said, Shocker & Boomerang aren't homicidal maniacs like Green Goblin, they usually just are in it for money. Although Boomerang tried to assassinate Murdock when his identity first leaked (along with Shotgun). We'll see how it works.

- Winter Soldier taking over for Cap makes more sense than Punisher, and I don't even read it. But, yes, Marvel may be in serious risk of rehashing REIGN OF THE SUPERMEN here.

- NOVA is looking excellent. I hope he throws beating all around and attempts to lecture folks on what REAL heroes are, or try to remind some who have forgotten. Penance needs a beating just for being Emo. :p While Terran heroes were divided over a law, he was uniting entire alien races against a common good, and literally gutted Annihilus. With the collective power of the Nova Corps inside him, he's also probably got enough power to give Iron Man a run for his money.

- I am suffering "event fatique" and just don't care so much about WORLD WAR HULK, especially as they was also done once; THE DEATH OF SUPERMAN. Y'know, super-strong, nigh invulnerable behemoth crashes from space, smashes stuff, wants revenge on people (it was revealed Doomsday wanted Superman because he was a Kryptonian, like the docs who created him), heroes get mangled, etc.

- NEW WARRIORS has a nice cover but some of the interviews have made me very hesitant. It is looking like another "in name only" like THE CHAMPIONS and could be another dropped ball with a franchise that has seemed to have nothing but dropped balls and missed oppurtunities.

- Despite learning the identity of Guardian in THE INITIATIVE one-shot, still have high hopes for OMEGA FLIGHT. I still wonder if Julia Carpenter's new boyfriend may appear, or is he in federal lockup forever. :( I mean, Shroud is the opposite of many Pro-SHRA characters; a hero pretending to be a villian, rather than a villian pretending to be a hero.

- Namor looks angry.

one last thing:

how the hell does robbie see out of that helmet? has that EVER been addressed?

I think he doesn't, intentionally. That way he can bump into stuff and hurt himself, because his life is pain. And his powers are about pain. Like he was saying out loud in the Initiative. To his opponent. In all seriousness, you pose a very good question.

And what death would that be?

They haven't said yet. I think the writer basically came out and said it doesn't matter whose death it was because the whole point of Endangered Species is that any mutant death is dire for the entire dwindling mutant race.

Exactly.

Then the past year of NEW X-MEN has to be historically dire as they were going through muties like they were going out of style. Hell, I even heard last issue, Mammomax died. :p

Yeah, I'm reading some interviews, and really the death seems partly irrelevant to the whole thing which begs the response that, the death really isn't kicking off the event and whats the point of the death anyway?

it'll serve as an excuse for the main players in the story to get together and try and figure the thing out.

Well, it's impossible for things in comics to be serious without people dying. Come on, where have you been for the last 3 years? :whatever:

IMMORTAL IRON FIST #7
Written by ED BRUBAKER & MATT FRACTION
Pencils and Cover by TRAVEL FOREMAN
Her name was Wu Ao-Shi, and she was known as the Pirate Queen of Pinghai Bay...and that all came after she left K'un-Lun and took the power of the Iron Fist with her. Kicking her way out of the pages of THE IMMORTAL IRON FIST #2, this stand-alone issue tells the story of Wu Ao-Shi, from the moment she became the first woman to touch the heart of Shou-Lao the Undying, to her mysterious, controversial and epic ending. At long last, America: someone has combined pirates, kicking, girls, and Iron Fist into a single comic book. You're welcome.

32 PGS./Rated T+ …$2.99

Darthphere, you should be happy, Travel Foreman is going to do the entire issue. :woot:

Yeah even Deadly Genesis had Banshee die in it...what a pointless death

That Battlin Jack Murdock book has flop all over it.

- It seems June is the month to devote comics to dead characters. Jack Murdock gets a mini and IF #7 stars a past Iron Fist who has to be long dead due to old age. I'm not sure devoting an entire issue to a past Fist immediately after IF #6 that will presumably finish Rand's first REAL arc with an actual good creative team, but I'll read it. It'll probably be good.

- "Silver Surfer" in UFF sort of wants you to pretend that half-arsed Surfers didn't already appear in ULTIMATE GAL-AHK-TUS or whatever that was called; I cared so much I forgot what that 3 mini bookend series was called. Fair enough, hopefully Carey can do better than Ellis did.

- Ultimate X-Men vs Nightcrawler? Hopefully Kirkman can finally get a handle on what to do on this title. His focus seems to be aimlessly throwing ideas against the wall and seeing what sticks, vs. a clear idea like IRREDEEMABLE ANT-MAN, and the quality suffers.

- I am so getting ANNIHILATION: CONQUEST PROLOGUE. That was the one good event from 2006, with no complaints and no need to have Tom B. explain it for 3 weeks straight. Good works stand for themselves. And NO ONE "misunderstood" elements from it as "supposedly" happened with CW. So, the more the merrier I say. I never expected to like space stuff but this mini really knocked it out of the park.

I think #7 for Immortal Iron Fist will be cool. Seeing all the past Iron Fists has been great, so it'll be nice to see some more of them. Plus, the next arc for the series has already been planned, and Luke cage will be involved. Either we'll get the next arc after #7 or maybe another issue involving one of the past Iron Fists. It's going to be great.

I agree about ANNIHILATION: CONQUEST PROLOGUE. The last Annihilation event was so awesome. I personally thought it was better than the events of Civil War. :yay:

I bet people thought the same thing of the Jack Munroe issue of Captain America, oh wait, you didnt read that.

I think most of us on SHH preferred ANNIHILATION. ;) Not all, but out of this forum's regulars I'd bet at least 51% of them.

I mean I sound wishy washy sometimes about IMMORTAL IRON FIST but that it because this is kind of a rarity for him; a solo book with a solid creative team that actually is good and wants to add to him. Of coure, that means fleshing out the past which includes stories like that one. I just doubt Bendis is going to do a whole lot with him besides "be Luke's sidekick" so this title's got to up the ante. At least it may give Aja a rest, though. Like I said, I'm sure it'll be a good issue.

Well, either way, I know I prefered it more. :woot:

It definetly is a good thing that Brubaker and Fraction are adding more to Iron Fist. Cause now they've done a whole bunch of good with him and alot of the new stuff they're bringing just reveals many things about Iron Fist that we'd never think of. So it's great to see more of the character. As for Iron Fist being on the New Avengers, yes he's a friend of Luke cage, but he's also there to finance the team. Plus Bendis said himself that we can expect to see Dr. Strange and Iron Fist teaming up in some sort of way, since after all both have magic type powers.
