June 2007 Solicitations

Well, either way, I know I prefered it more. :woot:

So did I.

It definetly is a good thing that Brubaker and Fraction are adding more to Iron Fist. Cause now they've done a whole bunch of good with him and alot of the new stuff they're bringing just reveals many things about Iron Fist that we'd never think of. So it's great to see more of the character. As for Iron Fist being on the New Avengers, yes he's a friend of Luke cage, but he's also there to finance the team. Plus Bendis said himself that we can expect to see Dr. Strange and Iron Fist teaming up in some sort of way, since after all both have magic type powers.

Yeah, it is good to have more added to the Fist legend. Like I said, devoting an entire issue to an ancestor as a "trade break" wouldn't have been my first idea, but I'm sure it'll be fine. Obviously the legacy aspect is what puts the "immortal" into Iron Fist (much as the role of The Phantom was passed down through the generations to make him appear to be "the ghost who walks").

As for Bendis & NA, he had a great chance to use Rand in SECRET WAR and blew it, and in 2 issues he's done very little but add to group poses. Of course, judging any Bendis story before the midway point is usually futile. I'm not sure if I would say that Iron Fist and Dr. Strange have "magic type" powers. Rand summons Chi, Dr. Strange is a spellcaster. By that logic, Merlin and Goku are simular. Dr. Strange harnesses energy from outside of himself whereas Rand is usually about harnessing his own (he's absorbed outside energy very, very rarely; in fact so rarely I never expect to see that ability again). That said, Bendis (with Reed) combined Strange & Xavier's powers in THE ILLIMINATI #1 for a nice effect, so whatever he wants to call it, it could look cool (if Yu is up to the task). It is a little interesting that BKV's Strange in Oath was hesitant to use magic to medically "heal" people because of the risks involved, but Bendis has him doing "Light Heal" all over the place. Guess when it's an emergency, natch. Besides, Rand can heal people with Chi too (or himself; Logan's not the only fast healer on the team now), and has fewer qualms about doing so.

So did I.

:yay:

Yeah I think the #7 to Immortal Iron Fist will be great. It's nice to see that all the past Iron Fists will get there own issues. I like it cause we'll learn more about them, and what they did with the mantle.

Yeah, I only said they have magic type powers cause that's how Bendis said it, lol. But still he said that we can expect maybe Dr. Strange and Iron Fist to team up when they need to. And it's really be cool to see what happens. So I say Bendis does have something in mind for the characters who are on the New Avengers team.

Nice job with the Spider-Girl solicit, I wonder what the secret specimen could be?

NEW AVENGERS #31
Written by BRIAN MICHAEL BENDIS
Pencils and Cover by LEINIL FRANCIS YU
No hype! No BS! The most important last page of any Marvel comic this year! Do not miss it!
32 PGS./Rated T+ …$2.99

Probably already been posted, but just in case.

Yeah, it was posted in the New Avengers thread. :D But still a pretty cool cover.

GOD, I want to have Garney's babies!

Also, I feel better about reading the Eddie Brock-centric arc in Sensational Spider-Man knowing that Lee Weeks will be penciling instead of Angel "******ed Proportions" Medina.

Spider-Man/FF looks good. I hadn't even heard about it until this solicit, somehow.

I wish another artist would take over on Spider-Girl. I liked Frenz back in the day on Thor, but Spider-Girl just really doesn't play to his strengths. I bet the series would be more appealing to casual audiences if it had an artist with more modern sensibilities, too.

Mmmmhmmm. Its funny that hes going all badass in that comic, while in the same month hes probably getting his ass kicked in WWH.:csad:

Exactly, how is it that black bolt can rip the fabric of reality with his voice (NA: Illuminati #2) yet hulk just shrugs it off as if it's nothing?

I hate hulk fanboys :(

- Does anyone still care about Elektra anymore (NEW AVENGERS #31)? She's been a stale one-trick pony who unfortunately inspired a lot of cliche "emotionless, busty femm fatales with spraypaint costumes" that Image was very fond of in the 90's. She's been revived and killed so many times that I really don't. And it's such a shame that despite all that, she's apparently one of Marvel's very recognizable heroines.

- Very torn on ASM. I wanted to leave the book after the CW arc was over, as JMS has been a sneaky beaver and never actually ended any storyline for the past year, moving from Prelude to CW to now BACK IN BLACK without any sense of closure, sort of like how TORN ended in a cliffhanger to lead into Astonishing's last arc (I think it is called UNSTOPPABLE but it's so long between issues I frankly have forgotten). Especially since at this point it seems that Aunt May is not going to die quite yet and just be on some sort of deathbed/coma thingie, which is a no-brainer solution for JMS to avoid icing her. It is funny that in ASM, Spidey will be dark because of that, and likely not bother with Cap's death. In Loeb's "5 Stages of Perpetual Angst" mini, he will be saddened by Cap's death. And in other titles, whichever he is reacting two is at the whim of the writer. I guess this leads into another point; why do we need a seperate mini to have heroes react to Cap's demise? Why can't they just express it in their own books, something PUNISHER: WAR JOURNAL is sort of doing (although the concept of Punisher-as-Cap is fairly ridiculous, but to be fair to Fraction, CW #7 started that up, not him). Why can't Wolverine react in his own series, instead of showing up in a mini? Oh, wait, he's too busy having Round #5 Billion with Sabretooth. Why can't Iron Man react in his solo? Oh, wait, he's too busy being Iron Fascist, Head of SHIELD. Why can't Spider-Man react in one of his 3-4 ongoings? Well, obviously Aunt May is closer to home so that will get the focus in at least two, and the rest, who knows? My point being is that, yes, I know that Marvel is milking CW as much as they can, but some things could simply be done in the core books vs. needing a mini for it. I guess this is hardly a new problem, but one worth mentioning.

Venom drool makes a rare appreance, you have finally gotten off of Sofa I see.

Then again, you don't read much DD

It's been what, 4 weeks? 5? Since the last issue, I mean. 4 or 5 weeks.

It seemed like a lifetime ago...

I just fell out of my chair.
Not only is it two of my favorites, but it's drawn by one of my favorite artist. :woot:
