Marvel Solicitations For June 2008

Umm,why aren't the Knaufs writing Iron Man this month? That sucks!

You know, seeing the two Cap's together reminds me how much Bucks costume sucks.

- Skrullowjacket, huh? That's one way to solve the mystery of how he comes back after KIA seemingly killed him... Anyway, I'm glad Triathlon is finally going to step up and fully take on the mantle of the 3-D Man. Should be interesting.

- Looks like those additional Defenders are actually going to be a team that goes rogue and supports Nighthawk in a fight against Iron Man and Gyrich. Looking forward to that.

I'm getting all 16 Invincible Iron man variant covers!!11`1w135

Marvel puts out a lot more variant covers than I realized.

No, they put out variants for practically anything they think will sell well. The Stephen King comics get variants, the Anita Blake comics get variants, Thor's getting variants now that he's a proven success, Ultimates has gotten variants repeatedly, Logan debuted with a black-and-white variant, etc. Marvel's variant-crazy.

triathalon as 3d-man?so be it as thor would say

It was at #74 in February. But the trade was at #8. Although, why trades would justify variant covers is beyond me...

Wow, I would have never guessed. That just makes me sad, though. Those comics suck. :o

Thoughts:

- Naturally, CA #39 looks good. I think it may be Bucky vs. Red Skull's "Captain America". Whether that means a clone or Sharon's speed-grown fetus is another matter.

- I wonder how INVINCIBLE IRON MAN from Fraction & Larrocca will sell, considering even in the wake of the film the regular ongoing title barely sells in the Top 50. And of course with the film still in theaters, there will be FOUR Iron Man titles, not counting Mighty Avengers or any other of the 500 books a month he guests. Yes, he is the new Wolverine.

- Not sure on GHOST RIDER. The book has been a bit "meh" ever since the retcon, and was hardly an Eisner before it. The new writer wants to do good, but we'll see. His first arc may be my last.

- Oh, Dan Slott has GOT to be irked that A:TI #14's cover exposes Pym as a Skrull. But how long as he been impersonated? Plus, the new 3-D MAN sounds pretty cool; the guy's a D-Lister so no one will get uppity if he accepts his legacy.

- So it looks like THE LAST DEFENDERS will go against Stark; well, Jen was hardly his ally and Colossus probably had no love lost for him, and then you throw in "recruits" like Atlas and Paladin...and why are the cover artists better than the interiors?

- Does every comic by anyone with even the slightest rep get a "director's cut" these days?

- Oh, Dan Slott has GOT to be irked that A:TI #14's cover exposes Pym as a Skrull.
Given that there are about a million random Skrull covers going around, I don't think it does.

Thumbs up to the FF solicit guy for spoiling how Mighty Avengers ends.

Rating: RATED T+ CAPTAIN BRITAIN AND MI: 13 2 # 2
The Story: The Skrulls are winning in England. Their mysterious goal there could turn the tide of the invasion. The emergence of the fabled sword Excalibur (once again locked in stone) may lead to salvation. But who can claim the mythic weapon? Pete Wisdom? Spitfire? John the Skrull? The Black Knight ? And what is the fate of Captain Britain?
Rated T+ …$2.99

In Stores: Jun 11, 2008 - see details
****in' **** YEAH! :D :D :D :D :D :D

Dane's cool and all, but I'm not feeling this book. Captain Britain isn't nearly as cool as Union Jack, and Pete Wisdom sucks. I'll be passing on this.

Whatever, the Black Knight's involved so I'm getting it. The direction sounds pretty interesting to me, too. It's about time the "universe-shattering" events that pop up every five minutes were actually felt in any meaningful way outside of the United States. Union Jack's presence would've been nice, but I can live without him. Plus, Leonard Kirk art and Bryan Hitch covers that don't suck.

Eh...the Hitch covers that I saw suck pretty bad. Which is so weird, because his FF has been pretty good overall. The Black Knight's the only character I'd be interested in here, but there's no way I'd spend $3 a month for one character in a team book that otherwise sucks.

Pete Wisdom's the only character I outright don't like. I like Captain Britain and his friendship with Dane, and I like what little I've seen of Spitfire.

People went crazy over that Pete Wisdom Paul Cornell series. You know, the one that if you weren't British, you just didn't get or give a ****.
