Justice League of America has Been Delayed!

Forgive me for not knowing, if the 40% tax break can't be given to film in Australia, why is Canada the alternative?

I'm happy that they are working around the obstacles and all things point to Miller fighting to have this film done

I think The Guard means that Warner Bros. is too put off by the Australian incident to push for filming there anymore.

I hope this film stays delayed; this director doesn't seem to have his priorities straight, and this seems to be more about release dates and the budget than making a good film.

From IGN.com:

Justice League of America may be forced to depart from its Sydney location due to an eligibility dispute over a tax incentive that the studio was counting on.

According to the Sydney Morning Herald, director George Miller says the $200 million movie could leave his home country if they don't get the 40-percent tax break that Warner Bros. had expected. The snag is that some officials want the rebate capped for films with budgets larger than $30 million. The incentive is also limited to Australian producers, and while Miller is an Aussie, the paper reports rumors that some officials have deemed the production "not Australian enough."

Somersault > Justice League. Seriously.

Dude's too hung up on making Happy Feet 2. They need to get someone who doesn't have wandering interests and forget about Australia for now.

They should just fire Miller & hire a yes man who will do everything the WB tells him to do

Better yet, just cancel this ill-conceived movie. It's failing at every one of the apparent goals behind rushing this movie into production:

-The movie was supposed to beat the writer's strike, and be WB's big tentpole for 2009. Except they didn't, and there's no way this movie is coming out in 2009 now.

-JLA was supposed to launch solo franchises for heroes whose names weren't Superman and Batman...but now the rumors are that solo films in development aren't going to be in the same continuity or even feature the same characters (JLA will use John Stewart, GL will use Hal Jordan). WTF?

-I am convinced that when the script was originally written, they were hoping to get Bale and tie it in with BB. No one chooses friggin Talia as the big bad of the hugest superhero movie in history unless they're trying to piggy-back off of a sucessful film. But they couldn't get Bale, or any other credible actor, so they're stuck with nobodies like DJ Cotrona and Armie Hammer.

This movie has become a failure even before it gets made. It's an absolute joke that it's still going on, and with the resources the WB has poured into this they could already be well on their way to making a good GL or Flash film. With the Nolan trilogy still going on, now is not the time to be launching a separate big budget Batman played by some 21 year old kid.

Well we dont know what is going to be happening with the film and if any or all of the cast who was rumored will even still be in it espically if the film moves to canada.

Totally agreed.

Isn't moving to Canada gonna cost more? I thought the Canadian Dollar is now worth more than the US Dollar?

AICN Exclusive: The Martian Manhunter in George Miller's JUSTIC LEAGUE is...
Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. I got a tip-off today from someone close to the George Miller camp alerting me to a bit of news.

A small story ran in the Sydney Morning Herald yesterday that didn't seem to get much notice, but had some interesting information. The biggest news being that the name of the movie is now JUSTICE LEAGUE MORTAL... I'm thinking there might be a colon missing. JUSTICE LEAGUE: MORTAL maybe?

My source says that MORTAL is indeed tied to the film, appearing on official documents (sometimes representing the whole title... so it could also be a Blue Harvest situation). The story also lists a guy by the name of Hugh Keays-Byrne as appearing in the movie, but doesn't say who he'll play.

George Miller fans will remember Hugh from the original MAD MAX. He played Toecutter.

I don't think he's really been talked about at all, but I know who he is playing in the film. He's the one in the middle.

That's right. Hugh Keays-Byrne will play The Martian Manhunter.

Here's what Hugh looks like today... so imagine the below without the beard and hair:

I gotta say I dig this bit of casting more than any of the others... well, maybe except Megan Gale and her NSFW pics I got to post when she was cast as Wonder Woman.

From what I hear the movie's going ahead strong now that the writer's strike is over. I hope Miller pulls it off. He's earned some trust with me. I hope it turns out well.

Quint also goes on to say that the reports of Superman and Batman being out of the film are untrue.

This looks more like a calculated threat (a bluff) to pressure the Australian government to give them the 40% offset while still carrying the $200 million budget.

Looking more and more like this film is happening. I like Byrne as MM. Good casting.

If it is a thinly veiled threat I hope my Government tell WB to piss off back to Hollywood. If the tax breaks offered aren't good enough, find somewhere else to shoot your movie.

Too bad our Government consists of a bunch of idiots.

Hugh Keays-Byrne? *sigh* another inspired casting decision... hopefully it's not true.
