Nell,I'm not getting you here.So to sum it up in one sentence,you'll be pissed if Cyke bites it and Wolvie becomes leader?

Why is that so surprising?Hugh Jackman has been the main star and character since X1.Marsden was committed to a role in Superman Returns as well while X3 was in development.There's no way he could have had a huge role as leader.

I'll even say that this entire franchise hasn't felt like an X-Men franchise for the sole fact that the whole "team" aspect of the X-Men wasn't nailed to full effect in X1 and especially X2.It's always been everyone occupied or trapped while Wolverine does all the ass kicking.

Cyke was screwed over since X2,not starting with X3.Instead of blaming the current writers and director,we have Singer to thank for giving Cyke the shaft in X2.

If he dies,oh well,it's still an x-flick.Wolvie is a competent leader as much as Cyke is.If the dude can lead Ms Marvel,Spider-Man,Spider-Woman,and Luke Cage,he can lead anybody.

This was posted by Retroman in the novelization thread. It states that Marsden's role was determined before he was signed for Superman as the studio had certain "parameters" for the character.

Did you and Zak originally write the X3 script without knowing that Marsden would be doing Superman. Basically did he have a bigger role in the movie beforehand or did you and Zak always have a clear definition of how big the role of Cyclops was intended to be?

*Yes. We wrote the script before knowing he would do Superman. Zak and I were given certain parameters for Cyclops’ role in the film. I don’t know if those parameters were dictated by Jimmy’s availability, or by the creative approach of the studio. As I’ve said many times on these boards, we did the best we could with the circumstance we were given. At the end of the day, I think Cyclops has some great scenes in this film, and I know Jimmy is extremely proud of his performance.

I'm not buying the Cyclops was shafted in X2/blame Singer bit, as I fully expected Cyclops to be a major player in X3 once I knew that the Phoenix/Dark Phoenix Saga was going to be introduced . . . It was afterall originally intended to include Emma Frost, etc. much like the original, and I can only assume that Cyclops would have had a much more prominent role in the subsequent films than he did in X2 (which is why I was more forgiving of his smaller role)--but once Singer was gone, I assume that possibility left as well--as the studio clearly had its own agenda planned for the character once it had control.

I don't know why Singer created a small role for Mardsden in X2, but he did. However, I can BET that he promised James that Cyclops would be in the spotlight in X3 (when Singer was on board). It was a compromise, in someways, and it was Singer's way to give back to Cyclops. I bet anyone.

When Singer jumped ship, I bet he felt the need to STILL return the favor, so taht's why he wanted Mardsden to join in too. At the time of the casting of Superman, X3 was DEAD in the water. I still remember that. Even Alan Cumming didn't know what the hell was going on (and he cleared his SCHEDULE FOR THE SUMMMER before he was dropped). That was from his offical blog.

It does excuse the fact that Kinberg and Penn was given parameters on Cyclops, and these guideliens were probably a political move. And YES, politics do exist in Hollywood. It happens all the time.

Someone posted earlier that these films have been the X-Men in mostly name only. That may be on of the truest statement about these films that I've ever heard.

The character of Cyclops has essentially been thrown away in these films. Having Logan play the role of Cyclops in the Phoenix Saga just adds further insult to injury.
