Saw this movie last night with my wife and daughter and i have to say it was quite good.
I'm in my upper 30s and ive seen all of the originals.

This one was a very good "reboot."
Jaden was really good but Jackie was the real star of this movie.
I hate to admit it being a guy and all but one of the scenes had me tearing up a little bit.
If you've seen it you know which scene im talking about.

I would recommend it any family member any day. Much better than tons of this drivel being put out today.

Thumbs up!

oh... as far as the question why its being called Karate Kid. Thats the working title for the USA. In other countries it's called Kung Fu kid i believe.

They kept the Karate Kid name for the US because i seem to remember in one of the trailers one of the Chinese bullies making a mocking reference to Dre as "the karate kid"
while he was getting beat up.

No I'm with you on that one too. It got to me

Also id like to say... this was Jackie Chan's Best American Film Performance... he really suprised me

That scene got to me, but even more so was the ending. When It's the very last round and Jaden is in tears. It just broke my heart. I don't understand ppl (who haven't seen the film yet) who say because Jaden is so young and tiny it just doesn't work. It's because he's so small and tiny and young that it DOES work. He's absolutely vulnerable.

The KK is a remake. The A Team is an adaption.

The A Team has never been a film; it's the first of it's kind. The Karate Kid has. The distinction is quite clear.

I'm confused. What's the proper word? Adaptation or adaption. Because I always call it the latter.

Yeah, it is. But that's what I hear from people. A tv show or book gets turned into a movie, I have heard people say, "they're remaking that?"

It's made 56 million this weekend:wow::wow::wow:. Good for them:yay:.

looks like Jaden his following in his daddy's footsteps!

So Karate Kid II is a guarantee. Will they be following the plot of the original Part II with Jackie Chan's rivalry with his former best friend. Maybe they should go to Japan (like the original) and have a karate vs kung fu fight.

well he was a producer on the movie, so yeah...

he jumped out everytime they promoted the movie

''hello i am will smith, you know the big hollywood movie star. this is my son''

or daddy helped him a lot :cwink:

........which any kind, responsible, and loving father would for his children :whatever:

Least we forget, ppl weren't forced with a gun to the head to buy tickets for the theaters playing The Karate Kid. People CHOSE to go themselves.

Pffft, GOOD. The movie was great and I know the studio and everyone else involved thought the same. It would have been a different story if they were trying to manipulate you into seeing a failed movie, but they didn't.

I look through this thread and this is what I see.....

The people complaining about this film and everyone involved has not seen the film.

The people praising the film and everyone involved DID see it.

Kinda tells you something, don't it?

i didnt mean anything bad.

will smith in the 90's was getting people in the theater because of him. Jaden is not. this movie did not make money because of Jaden.

it's kind of funny seeing people talk bad about this film because it's a remake and then turn around and say "now, the A-Team...that's a good film".

I see, it came off as snide, so I took it the wrong way. But the point still remains.

I don't think the KIDS that went to see it wanted to see it because of Will Smith though. The movie may not have made money soley because of Jaden, but he is the star of the film and one of the reasons people are liking it so much.

Exactly. People like to pick and choose what movies are bad based on how much they liked the original material back when they were younger. Such children. :whatever:

Cry some more please. It's a freakin movie. Who cares who wants to see it and who doesn't? Does that hurt you physically or what?

56 million. On a 40 mil budget. Not shabby.

I love the original and the cheesy music fighting montages, are there any inspirational montages in the new remake?

I counted two montages.

I loved this movie
Pluses:
- Great martial arts moves, with a lot of talented young martial arts, and Jackie Chan on his A game. The martial arts is brutal and jaw dropping and competitive with anything you've seen, even though half the combatants are early pubescent.
- Jackie Chan is a surprisingly good dramatic actor, but we still get a bit of the limping and wincing but still tail-whooping Jackie.
- Jaden Smith is just about as entertaining as his father, similar mannerisms and comedic timing too.
- I can't speak highly enough about the martial arts here. This is not 'kiddie after school karate.'
- They really did China justice here, the scenery the culture, everything. They also showed some profound things about how advanced Kung Fu actually works. They definitely did their homework on this thing.

Minuses:
- It takes WAAAAAY too long to get to the good stuff. Reminiscent of the first half of Kick-Ass, but longer. Ugh. It's almost as though they could have cut the second thirty minutes out of this movie.
- There are reasons other than the movie not to like the movie: love for the original, hatred of nepotism, veneration of Pat Morita. That said, they do not detract from the quality of the movie.
- Gives real life twelve year olds too many ideas.
- Some have said Jaden is not as charming as Macchio and lacks the exuberance, vulnerability and 'fire.' I think that's some bull, but to each his own.
