Saw the trailer and to tell you the truth, I'm curious about the film.

When I first saw the trailer, I did say it looked like they are trying to make a good film. The trailers without "Remember the Name" however are much better. I still don't think I'll see it, but it might not be as bad as people originally made it out to be.

So the movie may be good. Whatever, I'm not doubting that. But don't you think the studio would have released it near the end of the year if they felt it could be an Oscar contender?

......the studio doesn't think it could be an Oscar contender, just that one reviewer did.

hehe in that featurette the director says "everybody in china knows kung fu"

I freaking knew it. :cwink:

I never said the studio thought it could be an Oscar contender. I said if they did think it could be an Oscar contender, they would have released it around Christmas.

It would have been a nice Christmas release, actually. Live-action family fare seems to do better around that time. Summer is usually all about Pixar and Dreamworks Animation.

Robert Mark Kamen wrote the remake?! Luc Besson's partner in awesome?!?

movie looks good, but i still hate that they're calling it "KARATE Kid". i'm gonna see it, but i'm not gonna pay for it...

...because my Kung Fu school is doing opening night demonstrations and free Kung Fu lessons, so we get free tickets! ¦P

Oscar contender? Now I think that's a little far fetched.

I really liked it.

Like most said, it pretty much follows the original point for point...but I feel that they also introduced and enhanced certain elements that the original seemed to 'footnote'.
The tragedy of Mr. Han compared to Mr. Miyaji is almost the same level of tragedy but I felt that Dre's empathy for Han was conveyed much better than Daniel's to Miyaji. His solution of taking Mr. Han out of his depression and get right into the training was done very beautifully...I got goosebumps.

I also liked the build up to the 'crane' kick in the 10' version compared to the original. In the original for me at least, the crane kick just seemed to come out of nowhere although during the training montage Daniel is shown at least practicing the stance. With Dre, they show him trying to learn the philosophy behind the 'crane' all the way until he finally masters it in the final fight.

I also enjoyed the end when the Cobra students showed respect to Mr. Han. I originally was hoping that they would have Mr. Han have a confrontation w/ the Cobra master but...having his students turn on him and honor Mr. Han was much more powerful.

Overall an 8/10.

And can I just say that Jaden Smith really does take after his parents...there were so many moments in this film where his little mannerisms and acting nuances just reminded me of Will. The boy's got some serious acting skills. :yay:

Look, I've been raving about this film. And all I will say is.........and we're all guilty of it, myself included.........try not to automatically brush off a film because it's a remake or because it's geared towards "kids". If the guy who directed the remake of Fame can create that awesome Mortal Kombat short, than there is more to ppl than we would like to believe. Such examples never phaze me btw; I'm willing to give ppl a chance.

I loved this movie!

This looks good. I'm a fan of Jackie Chan but haven't been able to enjoy his recent work Also Forbidden Kingdom was too childish for me but Jackie was hysterical . I'll definitely check it out this weekend.

I refuse to see this on principal, I feel like if this makes bank then next week back to the future gets a makeover starring bow wow as marty and tracy morgan as the doc.

Marty: so doc how did you invent this? did you fall and hit your head?

doc: aagghh na son I was doing the chronic off mrs doc's belly and bam it hit me, look that bee even gots spinner from waaulmart on it.

Lmao. Then don't go to the movies to watch it. :cwink:

I will hurt someone if someone actually makes a remake of Back to the Future.

Be original when making a time-travel film, like Hot Tub Time Machine. :yay:

I just got back from the film and I absolutely loved it, Jaden and Jackie were great, the movie has a nice flow, and imo honors the original 10/10!!!:awesome::up:
