Comics Keep the Mask on Supporters Only!!

well, now that Pete's outted himself, no need to run around with a cool nickname anymore.

So I propose he ditch the spider logo and start using this one instead:

The problem is, while the unmasking may add to the Civil War "story", it craps on the actual character and ruins Spidey's own series and history.

Nor is it true to the character.

Even more, in Joe Q's Quest to Ruin Spider-Man, he is indeed alienating all of the fans that made Spidey popular, like me who have collected since the 70's.

Why can't he make some dumb character "unrecognizable" that no one cares about?

Why doesn't he take Iron Man OUT of his armor and put him in a leather biker jacket and have him join the new mutants or something? I mean , really! And he could change Wolverine's name to "Patch" and change his outfit so that he wears a black eye patch too....oops...they already did that.

I've been preparing for a while... at least now we can begin a preemptive strike and make enough noise BEFORE they f**k it up... not that they'd ever listen to reason.

WB is the Marvel of the movie world....they dont' care what the fans think (with Batman Begins being the rare exception...and maybe Superman Returns will be one as well).

JackBauer said:
actually, the marvel zombies aren't as big in numbers as you might think... just look at the local unmasking poll.

I know but it seems like this huge push by them to put a positive spin on this where in reality there is a lot of outrage because of what happen.:(

wtf are they doing to our character? How the **** are they going to fix this ****ing mess? Tell me it's a dream, somebody please.

What the ****?!

Not adding my two cents to the conversation because that's not allowed in this thread. Just making a post so I have this in my User Control Panel and can see what people are saying.

Interesting comments.

They are not going to fix this mess, its only going to get worse.

Props to WhatIfTales for his war cry. :up:

I'm going to say something controversial, and I want you all to read the whole thing before you react:

I am not only okay with current-day Spider-Man revealing his identity to the public of the current-day Marvel Universe, but I insist on it.

I'm assuming a good chunk of the people here saw 'Batman Begins,' or otherwise have read or watched Batman stories with R'as Al Ghul in them. This character, both the true version and the attempt to adapt him in 'Batman Begins' is all about wiping the slate clean and starting over. In the comics and animated series, he wanted to cause 90% of the Earth's human population to die so he could lead the survivors and their progeny in a new, "better" way of life. In the movie, he wanted to cause the citizens of Gotham City to go mad with terror and kill each other, effectively destroying the city so that it become an example to the world, or a place where a new, more "enlightened" populace could rebuild.

I've felt the same way about Marvel's movie adaptations, and now the Marvel Comics Universe. As far as I'm concerned, the glory days are long over and this fictional world isn't fit to live with everything that's been ruined about it. The sooner they put this diseased creature out of its misery, the better. They can either start fresh and do it right, or simply leave it dead and allow the back issues and TPBs of good stories be all that is left of the comics. It's too late to let it die with dignity, but the sooner it's finished with, the less indignity we have to see and hear about.

I haven't paid for contemporarily printed Marvel Comics in over a year now, because of this kind of storytelling. Go ahead and unmask Spider-Man, Joey Q and friends... see just how much punishment this franchise can take before it keels over and stops filling your coffers with ill-gotten gains. This unfathomably trashy and sensationalist decision should not have been made, and all the predecents leading up to it should never have happened so that anyone with any power over that publishing company could ever think this was a good idea.

I salute you who still have hope and fight for what you believe, and the sentiment of this thread is truly the righteous one. Don't think that I don't know that.

How is that contreversial? I didn't see anything contreversial in that post. If you want contreversy I'll happily give it to you. I'm good at it. :)

Here are the options of why you said what you did:
  • You didn't read my post, or you didn't understand it, or;
  • You have misrepresented yourself in previous discussions regarding your feelings about Marvel Comics, specifically how you've enjoyed them and the implication that you do not wish to see the Marvel Universe die, or;
  • You are misrepresenting yourself right now and did not mean what you said.
Do not respond if you plan on using this thread as a forum to argue for the unmasking. I know said explicitly said I support it, but for vastly different reasons than you do. You have said in other threads that you want this to happen for the sake of the story, whereas I want it to happen so that there may be no more stories such as this.

I posted in here to have this in my User CP, and then I saw your post and you said that you were going to be "contreversial".

Yes, I understood your post. And my feelings have no bearing on my comment. I just fail to see where the contreversial statements are at, heh.

If none of those options apply:

  • You didn't understand the title of the thread, or;
  • You didn't take it seriously.

You started out going toward contreversial, and then at the end you weren't. So I failed to see how you were contreversial.

We can keep going back and forth like this if you want, I'm not doing anything important, haha.

But if you want to be insulting I have a clear inbox and we can do it that way. I was seriously interested in what people had to say, so I came here figuring it might be more calm than other threads, and it is. Sheesh.

Just adding myself to the list of people disliking the loss of the mask.
