I think she was the one who suggested it, thought the name was pretty after reading a graphic novel with her in it. He tells the story in one of his Smodcasts, but she's definitely named after Harley Quinn, not any other woman named Harley or the motorcycle.

I love Smith's films. I first saw Mallrats in 8th grade (so it was '97-98 some time). We went to Blockbuster and were looking through the comedies. My oldest brother had seen it and said he really like it, so we got it. As soon as we finished it, my friend and I rewound it and watched it again. I've been hooked since.
