Superman Returns Kevin Smith Makes Fun Of Superman Returns!

This coming from the guy who made "Jersy Girl"?

Kevin Smith hasn't done anything relevant in the pulic since the '90s. indie film or otherwise.

He practically has singled handed killed Ben Affleck career as well as his own.

Okay Affleck did some things on his own to do that, But his friendship with Kevin Smith didn't help.

This is why he's falling back on making a sequel to "Clerks". Yeah right that'll put him back in the indie spotlight. What is this '92?

Oy...he wasn't making fun of SR. The commercials to 'Clerks 2' make fun of Lord of the Rings. I don't see that included in the Fox story.

He was making fun of the Jon Peters story about when took a turn writing Superman--as the fanboys' (which is Smith's main audience--how come you guys aren't picking up on this?) target audience would know.

Relax, it's just Fox trying to spin stuff. What a surprise.

Kevin Smith loved "Revenge of the Sith," so his opinion as a movie critic means about as much to me as George W. Bush's stance on stem-cell research.
so i guess my opinion doesnt matter to you huh?

Here here! Kevin Smith is a major insider masquerading as an outsider

lol Kevin Smith wanted to put Polar Bears and a Giant Spider in his version of Superman ??? LOL! thank god he didn't get the assignment!

Yeah, I thought it was really funny, I just think people on FOX etc didn't get it.

some of you are just...i don't want to say it.

I don't see how he was making fun of Superman Returns. It's more like he was making fun of the choices that Jon Peter forced him to have in his script- such as polar bears and giant spiders.

Precisely.

Yeah for the most part.

'Mallrats' was a much better movie as well as 'Jay and Silent Bob Strikes Back' was just pure fun. And the way the character Amy with her lifestyle in "Chasing Amy"...Man, I've Been there.

All they need to do is change her name to April and it's story I went through a decade agao.

But I didn't take her back unlike Ben Affleck....but I digress.

I will say that the the 'Emipre' verus 'Jedi' argument was a pretty funny scene in 'Clerks' as well as the independent contractors dialouge.

But it was mostly boring.

Kevin's Superman script sucked big wank. He's just an embittered comic dork whose script couldn't cut it.

Yeah, I'd have to agree after watching that vid that Smith was being self-deprecating.

I'm also glad I'm not the only one who doesn't think Clerks was all that great.

I've only ever seen one Smith movie, and that was Chasing Amy. I really liked it. I haven't seen his other "cult" hits. I tried to watch Dogma, but I couldn't really get into the beginning.

Meh...it doesn't sound like he is mocking the movie, but it surely does sound like FOX is trying to spin it that way.

Is there serious beef between FOX and Singer, or is this just regular studio marketing to hype up their own flick? I've never heard of it before being done deliberately, but I mean...what do I know :)

Sarcasm, did you even read the article? He didn't crack on SR.

I took the time to read the title of this thread....does that count?

He was just referring to his conversation with Jon Peters...it's all fun and games at this point. I'm not the biggest fan of Kevin's work. I can only watch so much of Clerks, Dogma was alright, Jay and Silent Bob wasn't funny at all...it was just a retelling of jokes from his movies before that. Mallrats was pretty good though.

Dude -- next time you post something like this, at least check the facts first. Smith isn't making fun of SR at all in that clip -- he's making fun of the original Jon Peters script which included polar bears and well, if Peters had his way, a giant spider (or as Smith called it, a Thangarian Snare-beast). Just head on over to YouTube and search for "Kevin Smith" and "Superman" -- you'll see it there.

The comic book audience had some issues with SR, but overall I think you're not going to hear too much complaining from anyone -- Singer is a formidable director, and while some of us would have preferred a Raimi or a Ratner, I think we can agree that Singer is the best thing that could have happened to our favorite superhero franchise!

Weeellll, there seems to be some debate on that. I think Singer is a good director, but he will never director a really good superhero flick about Superman without some help. Superman is way too big for Singer to handle. I hope WB realizes this, gets the dude some help in the areas where he really needs help, and adds a comic writer.

My opinion...

ha... it really doesn't sound like he was taking a cheap shot at the movie... no more than the Simpsons did with their teaser. Just making a joke (as he often does) about his Burton/Peters fiasco. Never-the-less, does anybody else hate Clerks? I do. Mall-Rats was okay. Everything else of Smith's is garbage. I don't want to say I hate him but... i think i lean that way.
yeah this has nothing to do with kevin smith hating this film...he just hates tim burton...everyone should watch the interview he gave about working on superman...thats where this little spoof comes from....smith is a huge comic book guy

im sure kevin liked superman. this is clearly a jab at peters as any self respecting fanboy would understand. and any self respecting human with a brain would do well to ignore anything from fox news.
