If Kevin Smith's script got a good director who understood Smith's vision- Superman Lives could have been a great film. I personally, although the Polar Bears and giant Spider seemed out of place, liked it. Some fans have mentioned the "wink" at the audience- been a long time since I read it- but, I remember a "wink" at the audience in STM as well. Jon Peters started ****ing it up- Tim Burton should have NEVER been put on a Superman film, he doesn't deserve to be anywhere near it. Albiet, he is a good director- just please Burton stay away from the Man of Steel. Anyways, the next thing came when Peters wanted a effeminate sounding man to be Brainiac's side kick. Instead, I heard a more Steve Zaughn sounding actor when reading through it and Edward Norton (I know how it sounds) as Brianiac. It was an alright script, Peters just ****ed it up from there.
That's another reason why I am so thankful that Bryan stepped in. Not only did he make a great film, he also more than likely made Peters shut up.
Because, when Peters was in charge we were looking at a Batman & Robin type film. Not to mention the "pay or play" deals that he was throwing around as though it was monopoly money! "Have an effimate guy playing the side kick, have giant spiders, and don't forget polar bears- their my favorite!" Seriously. People say that heads might roll, if that's the case- there is only one man: Jon Peters.
