Kingsman: The Secret Service

Everyone's being all puritanical and PC about one actress showing her butt that probably wasn't even hers, in an R-rated movie that had virtually no nudity in at all. It's sickening.

Didn't even look like a real butt. That shot could be in a PG-13 movie and it wouldn't have gotten it an R.
What now? :funny:

Vaughn is now one of my top favorite directors. The way he captures action and can make stories so silly yet completely satisfying is a true wonder. Loved this film.
After watching this, it's hard for me not to consider him as one of the most unique and exciting directors working today. His films ooze with style and maybe at times a little self-indulgent, but it's done with such finesse and charm it becomes a highlight.

I can't help but wonder what he can do with a truly big-budget comic book film. His directing is so perfect for it. I know he technically already did X-Men, but even he admitted he hasn't gone "all out" yet. WB or Marvel needs to snatch this guy up pronto.

This movie went waaay beyond my expectations. I truly loved every minute of it. And my god, Colin Firth knocked this out of the park. Not only was this my favorite role of his, but I'm convinced that he would make an excellent James Bond even now. That church scene has got to be in the top 5 greatest action scenes of the 2000s. Loved it loved it loved it. 10/10.

Absolutely agreed.

I think his style would fit:

The Flash
Plastic Man
Spider-Man
Iron Man
Booster Gold
Ant-Man

"I'll be right back" was so perfectly delivered.

Yeah that was great. I say it in the trailer and was thinking "if that's actually how he delivers that line in the movie, then it'll be hilarious."

$35 million for the 3day weekend. Not bad and this film was made for $81 million!

I'd give it a 7.5/8 out of 10. The first half of the film moves a bit fast for my tastes, but the pacing finds its groove in the second half. There's too much (bad) CGI for me to go too crazy over it, as well, especially the fight scenes. Firth is perfect in it and the cast overall really helps the film.

It feels like Tarantino-lite, which is not a diss. Vaughn has shown some promise as a director for awhile, and as someone said earlier: he's kind of like Zack Snyder, but good. I'm still waiting for a great film from him, but I'm confident it will come.

It was hilarious.

The biggest laugh from my crowd was Eggsy's "Aristocrat walk". :woot:

Nice! That's really good. Just an all out entertaining movie, and my crowd was really fun too.

It wouldn't shock me if a sequel gets announced shortly. Valentine's Day weekend in 2017? :woot:

Have any of you guys ever read a James Bond book or even seen a Bond film? This was tame in comparison. How about the way Sean Connery routinely hits women and/or basically coerces them into sex? People just accept it and say its OK because it was part of the times.

Then don't complain about what this movie does.

That's entirely the problem. It is a crappy aspect of Bond films that he more or less raped people (Particularly in Goldfinger) and that women were treated as trophies.

Kingsman spends most of its runtime sidestepping and playing off of aspects of James Bond but then right at the end just adopts the early Bond franchise's worst aspects in a way that is quite out of character and quite out of whack with the rest of the movie.

Its not about prudishness its about context.

Its a dumb joke for 14 year olds. If you laughed, fine, but others felt it was dumb move at the end of an otherwise pretty good movie.

It wouldn't be surprising. Theres alot of CGI nudity in films now.

I wonder what goes through the CG artists' minds when they're working on nudity.

"Hrmm does this butt look realistic enough to you?"

Or "can you take off your bra, I uh, need it for research purposes" :p

Something about that shot made me think like they CG'ed some body double onto Hanna Alstrom's body. Just looked fake-ish.
Where there is the digital nature of the glasses, but it didn't look fake to me. Terrific, but not fake.

Just got back from Kingsman and I loved it. It's got all of Vaughn's signature stylistic elements and is basically Bond's Kick-Ass. He really is one of the best directors working today.

He is definitely one of my favorites. Like Edgar Wright, he hasn't made a film I didn't love.

Cue homosexual Robert De Niro.
Was he gay? I thought he just liked cross dressing, but I honestly can't remember right now. Oh well, just another reason to watch it again. Also, Vaughn really does know how to pick them. So many breakout stars, who went off to great things after working with him. He had Superman and Daredevil facing off. And he consistently uses Mark Strong. That is enough reason to love him.

He and Victoria's fiance share winks.

But I would almost put Stardust on the same level as Princess Bride which I think is high praise.

It is coming back to me. And yep, I adore "Stardust" in the same way I adore "The Princess Bride". They definitely share the same DNA.
