Knight Rider 2008: The Thread

It's not like Hasselhoff was turning out high theater when he was doing the show, we just have fond memories of it because A) we were younger and really hadn't seen what good acting is and B) talking car

The original Knight Rider >>>>> Knight Rider 2008. It had a better relationship between KITT and Michael, it was about a guy and his talking car, they didn't try to shove 7 useless characters down our throats and I may be wrong on this one but I don't remember it being one huge comercial for whoever made Trans Ams.

KI3T is basically DIPPED in Ford symbols. Complete with those tacky cobras and even the freakin seat covers have Ford on them I think!

Yeah, all this show really needs are Mike, Sarah, and Charles. (And nameless techs working in the background.)

Maybe one more character who is the liaison between the Foundation and the government. Especially if, say, she was Charles' ex girlfriend or something. Sort of play off that same dynamic from the episode when his ex who worked with the environmental agency showed up.

Now, maybe over time, a couple of the techs get lines and their characters are developed, but they're used as irregular regulars, at least for the first season or two.

QFTW! I said something similar to this awhile back

Totally agree! This 2008 version is all flash and no substance

I'm been watching the dvd pilot of the 1982 Knight rider over and over again. Mostly for nostalgia(the giant floppy disks lol) The women back then had a porn star look

Suffice to say the 1982 version is shakespeare compared to the 2008 version. I get a kick out of seeing Michael introduced to KITT.

Also KITT isn't a main star that must be glorified to the point of excess like the 2008 version. It's a machine and steps back when needed.

For example at the end there's no back talk or interaction between Micheal and devon as it's being sent for repairs. It's simply a tool.

Devon- Only you could have dented this car!

It's the people that made the show with 20% of the car being the focus.

I guess what I mean is in 2008 we know KITT is an icon and the production crew treat it as a star.

one of the aspects I do like is that KITT is supposed to be an AI, he is supposed to learn....

Episode this week wasn't bad.

And:

If hell freezes over and this show miraculously survives, they can still bring Graiman back. You don't really see the circumstances of his death at all. It was like a comic book "death".

I'm constantly annoyed with how they handle Sara and Mike. They act like lovers, yet they aren't.

Looks like the Poitier spawn and Bruce Davison are gone. But the show will probably not survive the reboot.

Those were my thoughts exactly, too many cooks spoil the broth, or whatever the phrase is. Plus, Devon and Bonnie were never constantly in his ear.

It was Pontiac, but I'm sure there was the same kind of pay exchange, just a lot more subtly done.

I'm not even watching KRINO anymore. But I think they're gonna try a last ditch attempt to draw in viewers by airing a new episode after The Super Bowl. But seriously, that was the opportune time to premeire the show, but NBC sucks royally. I guarantee that this years Super Bowl will be the least watched because of NBC's involvement.

Who started this whole "INO" thing?? It comes off as just fan posturing IMO....yea the Super Bowl pre-game crap will suck, NBC is trying to appeal to the people who just watch the Super Bowl every year and don't watch any other football while ticking off actual football fans....I won't be watching any of the pre-game stuff and Ill be listening to the NFL.com simulcast, not Al Michaels and his fat sidekick

I'm just a sheep to the INO thing. And I do hate Michaels and Madden, too, but I will have to endure it because I am poor.

if you have a radio handy, Im sure your local sports station will have a broadcast....

It would still be confusing, but, Good point. Although, I think it would be Marv Albert and Boomer Esiason doing the radio commentary, lesser of four evils, I suppose.

I mean I like the show, and I wouldn't mind if it got renewed.

But it's not looking good.

This past episode has definitely been one of the best. Making it a two-parter and cutting away the cheesier aspects definitely helped. I don't mind the show having fun from time to time, but too many of the early episodes were just way too silly. It really needed to establish a more serious tone from the beginning and not be so liberal with the humor. Before the opening sequence of the first episode, I was already profoundly annoyed by Zoe and Billy's characters. Instead of a slow transition into their personalities, we're abruptly introduced to Uber-Nerb and Nympho Girl while a life-or-death situation is unfolding.

The problem has been that the show as had to grow on people. Television rarely works that way. You either grab viewers immediately, or you're dead in the water. NBC has been trying to coast on nostalgia without really thinking about how to making the show immediately viable. It's taken too much time for them to realize what would work best for the show.

I'm feeling like this is another OC situation,
where instead of Dr. Graiman dying, it should have been Sarah. I bring up the OC, because I always thought that show wouldn't be able to grow unless Marissa Cooper died, and they had the perfect chance to do it in season one when they were in Tiajuana. Fast forward to season four, after she finally did die, and they had a great creative resurgance. Unfortunately, the ratings had sucked so bad at that point that it was too late to recover.

Killing Sarah would have at least taken away one of the main things crippling the show: the "will they or won't they" cliche that no one likes!!! Would it have been even more harsh than Dr. Graiman dying? Oh, hell yeah! But to refocuses aspects of the show to pull it out of its creative slump. One of the most baffling thing about this show has always been the presence of TWO highly-trained field agents that are always riding the bench back at SSC, (mind you, it's hilarious that the first time Rivai is seen on a field assignment on the show, she suffers a career-ending injury!!) while Sarah is just a scientist with ZERO field training! The only time we see her do any kind of training, it's with Michael, and that might as well be foreplay, with all the sexual tension that's packed into those scenes! Bottom line, killing Sarah could have made Michael a better character. It'd be nice to see him a little bit colder, a little broken. The scene in this past episode with him taking out all of Stevens' men, he just had this whole "cold stare" thing going that really worked. I don't want him to be a total downer, but he needs a piece of his heart missing, something to really drive him. They don't bring up his mother (from the pilot movie) at all I notice. Maybe that will be something for him and Sarah to bond over next week.

Maybe the continuing story arc with the return of KARR will grab some people. Clearly, NBC had been grooming it to be a flagship show, the same way they've held onto Heroes.

And fix the damn theme song! We want the main melody, not just the lead-up!

I think the theme is fine as is....opening title sequences are so 80's anyway, they should just get rid of it

The new theme has grown on me. Gets me a little pumped for the show. The classic lead up stirs up the nostalgia and instantly puts me into Knight Rider mode.

Will we finally get to see KARR next week in all his glory? In the preview they showed KARR & he actually got to speak & say "KITT must die" or something like that. Also KARR sounded a bit to friendly in the preview about the same way as Peter Cullen sounds as Optimus Prime or one of the many alien characters he does voice work for on Ben 10, I was hoping that he would of had a more evil sounding voice as KARR.

I think next week is KARR week. Probably be a two-parter though. Actually, I sort of hope it is. KARR thrashes KITT next week. Then KITT gets revenge in the following episode.

And who else is ticked about losing Bruce Davison. I don't mind losing Carrie. Her character was sort of extraneous. And I wouldn't mind losing Alex. But, not only was Bruce the best actor of the group, he was the father-figure replacement for Devon.

And I actually really started liking Gus too! I've always liked the actor who played him, but the character cracked me up.

I kind of agree with KenK, but I like Sarah because she's good eye candy, and I want Deanna Russo on TV because she's good eye candy.

The Poitier spawn was a pointless character. Pointless because Michael already serves the purpose of a character like Poitier spawn. I would've also gotten rid of one of the techs maybe.

I don't feel Graiman's death was final because we didn't see everything they could always go the soap opera/comic book route which many TV shows like this have.

However that's only if the show continues, big if ;) .

I'm sort of also getting tired of the whole EVERYTHING IS AMERICA'S EVIL GOVERNMENT'S FAULT and OUR GOVERNMENT CREATED US BUT THEY ARE STILL DOING LOTS OF SHADY STUFF BEHIND OUR BACK. Makes me wonder why Michael if he's supposed to be this "disgruntled" Iraqi war veteran would want to be there at all.

Yeah, I agree. It's okay if some of them are just in it for the money!

I'm just kind of getting tired of the anti-American nonsense.

We get it Hollywood, you hate America and the government.

This weeks episode was alright, definitely one of the best. I also wouldn't mind seeing the show getting renewed.
