Kong: Skull Island - Part 3

Is there some kind of debate going on I don't know about?

Considering where the tracking was, it is a great number. A lot of predictions were hesitant about it breaking $100 domestic. That is pretty safe now. $81 foreign for the weekend is okay. I think it will be up to China to break $500 million.

Damn good movie, might see this one again. Reily alone was incredible.

How well did the 2005 King Kong do compared to this?

Opened lower, but do to the winter holidays, had some amazing legs. I don't see this breaking $200 million domestic with that opening, because the competition is going to be brutal. I also question whether it will be able to match Jackson's worldwide number, but a lot depends on China.

Just got back from it. I really enjoyed it. It was a simple, enjoyable giant monster romp and that is my bread and butter. I really hope it has some decent legs at the BO so it doesn't end up flopping.

March is shockingly crowded this year so there will be casualties.

Beauty & The Beast will pretty much murder anything in its path.

Just got back - the movie is totally awesome. Exactly what I expected - fun monster action, great visuals and no expectations from the characters. John C. Reilly surprised me in a good way, though. Jackson's character while being cool was really, really dumb.
When you see monsters of such scale on that island, killing people in such a horrific way, you RUN, not stay and try kill them simply because you miss the war and try to prove a point. I am actually surprised he managed to survive almost until the end of the film.

Hiddleston and Larson, though - you don't cast such good actors and waste them in such a way. Can live with that, though. Larson is a beauty.

The visuals and action - amazing! All the monster scenes were intense and everything was shot perfectly. Plenty of clear shots on Kong and the other monsters as well. This is what Godzilla '14 should have done.

The after credit scene had me really pumped for King of Monsters and hearing that roar.. goosebumps everywhere!

I like that they had them in daylight so much, as opposed to the infamous constant nighttime that a lot of movies use to mask CG. Transformers is like the only other one that doesn't do that.

i think the movie will end up a little more as 500 mil which is more as good and makes profit

I think that was precisely the point they were trying to make with his character.

He was projecting his disappointment and lack of purpose post-Vietnam onto Kong. He desperately needed to visualize an enemy to win a war he felt amounted to nothing. I assume he lost some of his soldiers on 'Nam as well. That paranoia and irrationality is what drove him to doing the things he did. He also felt he had an opportunity to avenge the soldiers he lost to Kong by killing him.

I thought the movie was just ok, nothing special. It's just a big dumb action movie.

Yeah its ok, kind of feels like the criticism of Godzilla being too slow and lack of monster action was taken to heart so they completely went the other way with this and put in as much monster stuff as possible and didnt take anything too seriously at all. The human characters are mainly just there to be eaten apart from JC Riley's who tried to inject something into it although never really paid off until after the film ended.

The action though you cant really complain about, its big, its bright, its clear to see, you get plenty of bang for your buck and there are some nice visual moments.

Its sort of the film equivalent of a Kardashian, looks great but just dont expect it to say anything of real relevance when it opens its mouth. Maybe thats enough though for this sort of film. Didnt hate it as much as Godzilla anyway.

6.8/10

Might want to check in that again.

I know I've posted this link several times but it mirrors my own thoughts very closely.

You can argue that it is perhaps ineligantly done but the movie was quite excited on what it had to say.

The anti-war message was about as thoughtful as a freshman dorm room stoner 6
weeks into his first philosophy class.

Saw it earlier today. Really enjoyed it. I love Larry Fong's cinematography and I'm looking forward to what Jordan Vogt-Roberts does next.

Were Brie Larson's freckles fake or...? :funny:

Loved this. I had an absolute blast. One of the best monster movies in... I mean when did we get a monster film this good? This is what Godzilla, Pacific Rim and Jurassic World should have been. The directing was terrific. Once I saw the opening shot, I knew there was something to this. It had a real vision behind it which you don't see as much anymore with blockbusters. And it had great characters you actually cared about and liked. Reilly of course being the stand out.

People don't seem to be giving this movie enough credit. It's a lot harder than it seems to make a giant monster movie and Roberts nailed it. Because you want to see the monsters fight since that's the main attraction and the characters may seem secondary. But not here. Usually with these you're waiting for the monsters to show up, but in this movie I genuinely enjoyed all the character's scenes. This is really how it's done. I'd like him to direct GvK, but if not, at least he's directing Metal Gear.

Agreed. When it started, I was like "Oh... So he's what they were hyping Colin Trevorrow to be." :hehe:

I've heard some people say the characters in this movie were worse than Godzilla's, like Jeremy Jahns for example.

I will never understand this criticism for the life of me.

I saw this yesterday & I was surprised to see the cinema was 2/3 full. I honestly didn't think that many people would be going to see it, especially on a Sunday afternoon.
It was well received, action was good, Kong himself was spectacular & there were even laughs at the humor, especially Reilly.
I'd give it a solid 7/10 - went there to be entertained... job done.

Just got out. I had fun with it. Some iffy dialogue here and there but not nearly as bad as some people have made it out to be.
