Kong: Skull Island - Part 4

Great stuff! Had some beautiful cinematography, loved the creature designs and the action. Great soundtrack and had some interesting characters too. Enjoyed this a lot!

I'm glad you loved it.

I liked Godzilla much better. It felt more mythical and a had better story, Kong felt like a montage of cool video clips rather than a film and the only better character was Reilly's Marlow. And Godzilla had a totally superior soundtrack.

Yep, my thoughts exactly. Desplat's score does so much for that film, whereas Jackman's is generic and forgettable.

Sadly the most memorable moment of Jackman's score to me was during the post-credits scene, lol.

I liked both films, but I did prefer this film over Godzilla.

This film without a doubt is more fun when compared to Godzilla.

But to me, fun movies doesn't necessarily stick with me. Godzilla did that.

Just watched this again. I can't help but laugh when Kong starts killing the soldiers. :woot:

I really need to watch it again when I'm not coming down with the flu.

I thought both had good scores, but Desplat's Godzilla one was more memorable to me.

Yeah I enjoyed Kong a lot, enough to buy the BD in fact. But Godzilla stayed with me longer. I actually didn't like Godzilla on my first viewing, but have grown to like it more and more with each viewing.

I liked Godzilla but it was really dragging in many parts and the Monster action being few and far between didn't help either. OTOH, Kong: Skull Island was consistently fun and full of Monster action. Also I did like final fight in Godzilla (Kiss of Death was awesome) but Kong vs Ramarak in Skull Island blew it away. The final fight in Kong was much more scary, cut-throat and intense.

I'm in that same boat with you. To me, SI flows so much better & the characters actually have personality. The only person who exhibited any real nuances in Godzilla was Bryan Cranston. Everybody else was pretty much just grim all the time & it was hard to really root for anybody because you didn't have any major reasons to.

I'll always love both films, but if I had to choose, SI is gonna win it every single time. Then again, maybe I'm biased anyway because I've always liked Kong more? :woot:

I think Godzilla had a better sense of scale and 'personality' to the monsters in comparison to Skull Island. One of the things I think Gareth Edwards did right in that movie is making Godzilla look mythical, like this aging samurai warrior.

Hoping that continues with King Of The Monsters.

True, I will agree Gareth beat out SI in that respect, but at the same time, Vogt-Roberts handled the sense of scale with these creatures very well too, imho. Maybe not to the exact extent of Godzilla, but I did get a Godly, mythical feeling from Kong as well.

Agree with this, Godzilla lived up to his name. Kong wasn't quite the King in SI and needed help finishing off the big skull crawler from the humans.

To be fair, it was made clear that Kong is still a growing boy & isn't anywhere near peak level yet.

It's obvious he's gonna be fully grown by the time GvK comes around.

Maybe sporting a grey-ish looking fur due to age, even?

On top of that, the big bad in Godzilla isn't necessarily evil evil. They are just trying to survive. You know, make babies and all. :sly:

On the other hand, the Skull Crawlers are just there to kill everything they see.
